Anyone *not* running a race right after the program?

I'm on week 8 - almost there! I keep having people ask if I'm running a race soon, or trying to push me into one. My goal at the beginning of all of this was to a.) finish the program and b.) have a 12 minute mile (I'm slow! lol) - well I am almost done with the program and am under the 12 minutes (yay!) But I don't have a race I'm running right away.
I actually think I will do 30 minute runs after this week (and after I do the actual 3.1) to get more running under my belt. I want to continue to run 2-3 x's a week and work up the endurance so when I do run an actual 5k, I will be happy with my time, etc.
I also do not like running in the heat, so I have been getting up at 5 am to run, and there are no races that early around here, so I am planning on doing one in the fall, when it's hopefully cooler.
So...am I the only one that isn't planning on running a race right away, after the program? I feel that since I'm meeting both goals I had starting out, that is good enough....for now

I'm not- I didn't want to "box my self in" and be set up for failure! I would rather take my time with the program- see that I could finish it and actually run 3 miles!! Then I will see about a race. My girls are interested in doing "Girls on the Run" program some of my friends are starting this fall. They run a 5k at the end of the semester- I want to run with them- but that is not until later-. This gives me time to continue my training and see how I really like it.0

No plans yet - but if it all goes well I might change my mind!0

I just did W4D1 and it was awesome, I never thought I could run for an entire 5 minutes twice. I'm too chicken to commit to a race yet though.0

Currently in week 5
I have no desire to run in a 5K, my goal is; Walk 1 mile to the trails by my house, run a 5.4 mile loop and walk the 1 mile home. That loop takes me aproximately 2 hours to walk. Hope to cut that time down to 1:15 for a quick cardio workout 3 - 4 times weekly.
My wife is the competitive member of our house, 3 1/2 marathons a year and a few 10 K's for fun.0 -

Wow, your wife is awesome!!!!
And I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't have any plans!!0 -

GOTR is an awesome program - that would be fun to do with your girls! I say go for it0 -
I have no intentions of a race for a long time. I started C25K to get back to where I was running before: 1.5miles in 11 minutes. Once I get there, I'll probably continue repeating the last few weeks of the program/adapt it, while strength training. My overall goal is not to be a long distance runner, but more of a 'Tough Mudder' kind of physique. Which will take a LOT more than just C25K
With that said, I do enjoy running, and will continue to do it.0 -
Honestly, I can't justify spending the money to register for a 5k when we have a local 3 mile track I could use any time for free.0

I have a vague plan to do the Cancer Research run with my friend next year, but nothing immediate. I like running in my local area, and I want to do the Bridge to 10k after I finish this. Once I've got my speed and mileage where I want, I'll consider it.0

I don't want to run a race until I can do a 10 minute mile0
-
Nope, I'm not. I wanted to start c25k to get fit and because I thought I'd never be able to run, I really wanted to see if I could. I've just finished week 6, but today I ran for 45 mins solid (7.2km/4.6miles)... I was on such a natural high afterwards and it was a reminder as to why I wanted to do this programme.
I have since looked into doing a race, but seems races here have already been done and dusted (can't find any at the moment)... so whether some will crop up later in the year, or I have to wait until next year. I just hope to keep running.0 -
I do not have a race scheduled as of yet. I really want to do one but I don't want to do it alone and haven't found anyone willing to do it with me. Also, I'm wondering if doing my first race in the heat of the summer is a wise idea or if I should wait until Fall. There is a 13K that I would love to do at the end of October but I don't know that I'll be there yet and I would have to find someone (i.e., convince hubby that he IS going with us!!!) to do the walk with the kids while I do the run. Every year I participate in a walkathon for Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) and there is usually a 5K race as well (you can do the 5K or a 1-2 mile walk). The 13K in October is also for PWS. While my husband has not attended any of these events, I am hoping to convince him to start attending so that I can do the run and the kids can do the walk. Since my daughter has PWS, it is more important that she be there and do the walk than for me to do the run.0

This is my second time through C25k. I am trying to increase my speed as well as recovering from an injury (plantar's fasciitis) well..and laziness in the winter lol.
I have ran only 1 race.
I may never run another race again.
I do not like them. I do not like the stress. I just love to run.
I get tired of people trying to push me into running a race. People all around me who see me run ask me when my next race is. I tell them never lol (then they get surprised and ask me why do I bother to run). My running friends are always asking me to run this race or that...I politely turn them down.
I run because I love it. I run because it's making me fit. I don't see why I have to run to prove anything...I know what my time is. I know my pace. Yea, the race adrenaline is good....but I get the runners high naturally anyways.
I do however volunteer my time at local races and that's good for me.0 -
I graduated last week and haven't set up any races yet. I've looked at some local ones and considered it, but I'm still slow right now too and I don't want to discourage myself. I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing (running 30 mins) and keep working on my weight loss and go from there.0

I keep forgetting that it actually costs money for the race, and then on top of that you usually have to pay for a shirt if I want one...so I won't be doing one till September. I did the last day of "training" today - the 30 minutes, so my plan is to run 2 30 minute sessions next week and then run the full 3.1 on Friday to see how I do. I am at 11:30/mile right now, which is kind of slow I guess, but I wanted 12 and am under, so I am good with that
I'll also continue running every week and hopefully eventually pick up my pace AND build endurance!0 -
I don't have plans at the moment to run a 5K race right after the program, but that might change as I get to the later weeks. My goal right now is to just get to the point of being able to distance run. I have always been jealous when I see people running around town, and always used to wish that I could do that. Looking forward to being able to say I can!0

Me! I finished Couch to 5k about a month ago. I started the program to lose some weight, and to develop a healthy workout habit. Since graduating, I've been running 3.2-3.5 miles 3 days per week, and I'm enjoying it. I have lost weight, and I'm keeping it off, but I feel so great after finishing a run. I did sign up for the Color Run in October, just because it looked too fun to pass up. I've spent the last month working on my endurance, but now it's time to work on my pace, since I can't seem to break 11:30 minute miles I'm so slow! But, I guess a slow, steady run that burns over 300 calories is better than nothing!0

I'm just starting the C25k but have no plans to run a 5k right after I'm done with my training. If I feel strong towards the end, I may find one though. After I complete the program, my next goal with will be to increase my speed.0

Same as most here. I'm about to start week 6 (Did my 20 min run this morning! I can't believe it!).
I'm not terribly interested in doing a 5k right away, especially in the Alabama summer heat and humidity. My church is doing a Midnight run 8k soon, but I'm not going to be ready in time for that.
I'm SLOW. All you people talking about your 11min miles are practically moving at light speed compared to me. I'm doing about a 15min mile right now. I started this program so completely out of shape. Not even close to being fit. I think I'd run faster if I weren't doing it on a treadmill.. but i live in fear of my wife hearing a loud "THUD" as I am slung off the end of the treadmill into the wall.
Anyway, I think I might do a race in the fall when it cools down, assuming I can get up to a faster speed. I'd be thrilled with a 35min 5k!0 -
Yeah, I'm not planning one either. I'm doing this because 1.) I need a cardio that I can do cheaply and outside (because I live in an apartment) 2.) Kind of a silly personal reason-but I was kicked off track in HS and told I wasn't "cut out for this". It hurt my ego, and even though I don't think about it too much, it's still a bruise I'd like to heal and basically give a middle finger to. 3.) Because I need a way to destress in a healthy way besides overeating and crying about it.0

I'm not planning to do one right after either. Your goals for doing the C25k plan is just that. YOUR GOALS. You accomplished what you set out to do with this program and if it doesn't set right with you, you shouldn't feel pressured to do something that isn't in you to do.0

That's my goal per week - and that's my pace - glad I'm not the only one0 -

Exactly! But all my "runner" friends seem to think I HAVE to run one, lol -0 -
I never planned on running a race as im a slow runner, I graduated C25K early on a treadmill and then took it outside so decided maybe just maybe I should try a 5k race but there were no 5ks near me only a 10k so i thought in for a penny in for a pound and told a few people that i was going to do a 10k
I had some genuine supportive comments and a few horrible ones like "You will never do it, your too big".
This made me more determined and to show that I was serious I contacted Ty Hafan which is a children's/ young adults hospice where my friends twin daughters attend and told them I was going to do a 10k and could I raise money for the hospice
They sent me posters and forms printed with my name and the event date etc which went up in the fire station and the pub where i work so now there was no backing out even if i wanted to
Last Sunday I ran the 10k in 01:25:28 knocking 3 min off my training run time and even though it was hard and gruelling I really enjoyed  So far ive raised over £400:00 for the cause
Im now looking at doing another 10 k in September0 -
No I am not planning on running in a 5k or a 10k. I started this for weightloss, health and stress relief. I am only on week 3 and tomorrow will be day 3 of week 3 for me. I am not into getting up in front of others to race. I have a case of stage fright and most anyone I know that does run could outlast me easily. One of my friends was in the military for goodness sakes! I cannot keep up with him yet!0
