Help! C25K Week 7 Hip Pain

Last night I completed C25K Week 7, Day 1. I ran 25 minutes (almost killed me) and the last 5 minutes I started feeling some hip pain. Last night and this morning I'm in significant pain - not your normal "hey, I can tell I worked out" pain.
Before I started C25K I searched on MFP - and took everyone's advice:
* Got great shoes fitted at a sports shop
* I'm going majorly slow (4.2 on the treadmill)
* I'm stretching before and after
* I'm taking rest days and only doing the three days a week it calls for
I decided to take Aleve and I've been trying to stretch out the hip area - but I would LOVE it if someone could share what they've done to help this or best yet - avoid this. I don't want to stop running this program - I really want to finish! Help!

Hey, I see that no one else has answered you on this yet, so I'll give you my thoughts, whatever they're worth.
It all boils down to one thing, I think. Four words: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. If you are having pain, that's a signal that you need to pay attention to. Look at it this way, if you push through and injure yourself further, then you may not be able to complete the program after all, right? But if you give yourself a little time off, three or four days, then get back into it - you complete the program a few days later than you would have, and avoid a possible serious injury.
Some years ago, i was doing circuit training at Curves, and I started feeling a soreness in my left shoulder... I kept working out, just thinking it was a sore muscle, kept that up until I simply couldn't do it any more. Finally went to physical therapy and found out I had tendinitis... and then my therapist discharged me too soon and my shoulder completely froze. The physical therapy involved in frozen shoulder is the single most painful thing I have ever had to endure, and it went on for five months.
So, the moral of the story is - and forgive me for repeating myself - LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. If I had only listened to my body and stopped stressing my shoulder instead of trying to push through it... well, I can't even imagine how much easier life would have been. Plus I'd have been able to stay more active and wouldn't have started gaining weight again - but that's another story.
I'm shutting up now.0 -
Thanks MsMindy - I'm trying to and it is frustrating. I skipped my run for last Friday (kept up the aleve, and the stretching) and tried again on Sunday. Ran 5 minutes but the pain started in earlier. Snarl.
So - I bumped down the treadmill to a fast walk and no pain. Figure I'll try again tomorrow and see if I can do more than 5 minutes.
It sucks I'm not 20 anymore! :sad:0 -
Hooboy, do I hear you on that!
But then, we know so much more about life now, right? At least, that's the theory.
Hang in there!0 -
When I first started C25K, I had a similar issue. Pain in my left hip. I could walk with a limp but not jog at first. Then eventually I could walk without a limp but still with some pain, but not jog. I see a chiropractor, and he said it sounded like I pulled a muscle or tendon in my hip. Since jogging is harder on the hips than walking, that's why it would hurt. So I had to stop the C25K program for a long, long time. Sadly, it was about 2 months before I could get back into it. It just took that long for my hip to heal.
While I know that sucks for you to hear, I strongly suggest listening to your body. I know you have worked hard to get where you are now, but you do not want to cause serious injury to youself. Especially since your hip is a major joint, listen to it. If your joints are happy, then they will be kind to you.
and yea, we're not 20 anymore, and it does suck sometimes :P0
