Hi there, just after some advice, help etc. I have a real addiction to sugar and am trying to cut down my daily sugar intake. What do u think is reasonable amount of sugar to consume per day. I don't necessarily mean added sugar, but even sugar in foods. I look at my sugar goal on mfp and I am always usually double my goal!!
Obviously some of mt food choices arent the best at times, but I am finding the whole sugar thing a struggle.
Ur advice, comments would be much appreciated.

is it possible to open up your food diary so we can have a look at your food choices?0

Whatever amount keeps you under you're daily cal limit. (unless you're diabetic)0

I don't pay too much attention to my sugar count. I believe the recommended limit is 100g of ADDED sugar per day. This does not include natural sugars such as lactose from milk of sugars from fruits.
Don't go crazy, but I have about a litre of milk and 1-2 pieces of fruit each day, it puts me waaay over the MFP allowance, but is still perfectly healthy.0 -
I also usually go over my allocated sugar most days too, even just with milk and fruit and veg. But in my opinion you get more benefit from having those types of things in your diet than the sugar is bad (but i do try to limit my fruit to two pieces a day) so i just worry about the processed sugar.
If you look at the sugar content listed on the packet. Per 100g, <5g is low sugar and >15g is high sugar.0 -
I don't worry over much about my sugar - but too much sugar makes me cramp up, gain weight (probably water) and my eyes swell, so I avoid it.
What I find MOST beneficial is translating the amount of sugar on labels into (approximate) teaspoons. A random selection from the pantry is: Peanut butter - per serve - 1.6gm (quarter of a teaspoon). Diced tomatoes with olives - per serve 7.2gm (1.25 teaspoons). Canned pear halves - per serve - 15.8gm (over THREE teaspoons of sugar per serve here!!). Sure, you might say 'oh, that doesn't sound bad' but add all that up (plus other ingredients) over a day, and it will add up...even if you ONLY have a serve of each. 'Healthy' things can be shockingly high in sugar.
If I go over my sugar for the day, I have a look and see where it came from. Hopefully it is fruit or something else 'natural' that doesn't come with a label - veges, milk, rice etc.
I also swapped sugar for my coffee and tea for fake stuff. I was ingesting about 10ts (or more) of sugar just from coffee in those days.
