Looking for friends and supporters

My name is Kassie and I just started low carb induction on Saturday. I am just looking for others that can support me during this journey and into my new eating lifestyle. I would love to hear success stories, swap recipes, and I am pretty good about supporting others. I tried this site last summer just counting calories and fat and such with no luck. Prior to MFP, I started the belly fat cure which is similar to adkins back in 2010 and lost about 50 pounds overall. I have been dealing with GI issues for the past few months so I have to be careful of what I eat. Low carb diet seems to work best for my weight loss, energy levels, as well as my stomach issues. I am going to a new GI doctor next week so I hope that my new eating lifestyle won't have to change. I may miss a day or two on here from time to time due to sickness or kids, but this time around I am determined to succeed!

    Hiya Kassie,

I've been low carbing for a few months now and it has changed my world, no word of a lie .... Good energy, no cravings and better mood regulation since I lost the fear of consuming fat. I was originally low-fat on MFP so I can really compare the difference cutting the carbs makes for the same calorie count.

Regarding your GI issues I don't know what you consume but I do know that quitting grains helps some people. Grains have a tendency to encourage issues with digestion, even so-called healthy whole grains.

I've been grain-free (i.e. no bread, pasta, legumes, corn, etc) for a while and I definitely feel less bloated and lethargic, helps with reducing the belly too ;)

Check out 'leaky gut syndrome' for more, I'll dig out some more specific resources if you are interested.
  • Thanks you guys! I no longer eat bread, sugars, pasta, fried foods, etc...I use splenda or truvia daily but not a lot of it. I know that I need to steer clear of processed meats and drink a little more water. The difference from changing just this little is amazing.

Hi Kassie. I think with GI distress one of the reasons that you may have better luck on low carb diets is generally the lack of or cutting way back on grains. I know that makes a huge difference for a lot of people, and my wife especially gets swollen, joint pain and hurts for DAYS after eating wheat specifically.

Good luck to you, and feel free to add me and ask questions if needed.
  • Thanks so much you guys! I can totally relate to the joint pain. I suffer almost daily. I look forward to learning more about you all's low carb lifestyle and success stories. I am so excited to be able to start over and get it right this time. Eating healthy def makes you feel better!

From a GI perspective (I work in healthcare), I can definitely vouch for the other comments here pertaining to the grain-family. The GI system is the Absorption-Train, digesting, breaking down and absorbing. Everything from "top" to "botton", the GI system works constantly.

Im proud to say our group is 100% supportive...without hesitation.

Our group welcomes medical-advised low carb intakes, Atkins, Paleo, Primal, South Beach and those who need to know that we wont bite...

Im a 15+ chef, 17+ year healthcare.... as a Chef, my focus was restrictive intakes (such as yourself)... I loved creating dishes for folks who either had salt-restrictions, fat-restrictions, post-surgical recovery, etc.... I no longer work both industries but I keep up with my cheffing on the side..... (empty nest WAAAAHOOOOOOOO)

Welcome and glad to have you here!
  • Thank you!

Low carb is a great way of life! I have never felt better while eating this way and all my numbers (cholesterol, triglycerides, etc) have now returned to acceptable levels. If you want some great recipes check out this blog: http://peaceloveandlowcarb.blogspot.com/
She has some of the best (and easy) recipes out there. My family loves everything that I have made from her site. Add me if you want, my diary is open! I also have a great low carb board on Pinterest!
