Plank madness!

After a level 2 workout, I am sensing a problem coming my way... I am *awful* at planks. Like really really awful. I can barely do 3-5 seconds if I'm resting on my elbows and I'm worse if I'm on my hands. My toes kinda slide out from beneath me and I can't stay up on them.

I don't know how to go about fixing this, or what I'm doing wrong -- I can't tell if I'm making a big mistake, or if my toes just don't cooperate (I have super-high arches, which has caused me various problems in the past). Any thoughts on what to do to improve? I definitely don't want to write planks off and start phoning them in just because they're tough for me.

For some reason I find them easier on my hands than on my elbows, I'm not sure why :indifferent: I do know what you mean about toes sliding out though, it happens for me most of the time too... I think I have a habit of raising my back a little so I'm not perfectly flat, and I'm really not so good at maintaining the tension once I get there.

Maybe they'll be like everyone's problems with push ups, and they'll just get easier the more you go at them. They're not something I've ever done too often before now so I'm hoping they'll come with practice.

I'm trying them on my yoga mat -- it's less slippery than my laminate floor with sweaty hands. I don't have the shoulder strength to hold it for the whole set though, but I'm hoping I will after 10 days of this.

Good idea - I'll pick up one of those.

I actually went from the floor, to my yoga mat, to a towel on my yoga mat, which works great. This workout definitely makes me work up a sweat!

Not sure if this will help, but what about putting your feet against a wall? I do mine in my livingroom on the carpet. I started with socks and need to do it barefoot now to avoid slipping.

Ooh, I might try that! Thanks.
