This week or next..I will begin training for my first 1/2 where race day begins on September 22. Looking for friends preferably that is also just starting their training. I finished my 10K in 79 minutes, and said, after training for the 10k and completing my race that took place this past Saturday, I would start training for my first ever 1/2. I'm pretty stoked, and I love running!

im adding you now, i'm doing my second one in October but ive joined a running club to get my fitness up and i find i push myself harder, have you considered joining one?0 -
Hello. I'll add you. I'm doing my first half September 23rd, so we'll be pretty much at the same time. Do you have a schedule that you're following for your half? I'm using Hal Higdon's Novice Half Marathon training schedule. I'm doing a 5k June 3rd. Other than that, I've done nothing else. Why not jump from a 5k to a half marathon? Heehee - I might be a little nutso. I'm not expecting to have a wonderful PR. I'm just expecting to finish. Luckily I will have up to 4 hours to finish as the event is part of a full marathon event!0

Hi ! I just ran my first half a few weeks ago and planning on doing another one on august!! Feel free to add me as a friend!0

You can add me too. My first half will also be on September 22 (Denver Rock N Roll). I've been running 5k's for the last 2 years (kinda slow, most likely because of my weight) and will starting on 10ks this spring/summer. I did a 10k last week in 85 minutes.
I'm going to follow Higdon's plan as well. They seem to make sense.
Supposed to run 5 miles either day this weekend, but both days are going to be rainy. Probably should just get out and do it, but I'm dragging my feet. But September really isn't that far away...0 -
Wow, there's a lot of Sept 1/2 runners.
I just sent you a request to add..and anyone else on here can add me, too, if they want.
I started running Oct 2011. My first half is Nov 4th. I'm doing Hal H's Novice 2 training for my half. So far, I have run 2 5K's and one 10K. I have a slew of races to get me through the next few months (a few more 5K's, a 4 miler, a 10K and a 15K).0 -
I'm also hoping to run a half marathon 9/22/12. Would love more virtual running buddies!0

Hi! Ran my first ever race ( a 10K) on Sunday and managed to run it in 64 mins! I've decided to start training for a half mareathon too, but not sure when I will be running it yet! Don't want to rush things!!0

I finished a 8.5 mi run yesterday morning. It was nice and cool..it was perfect! To my suprise, I hardly felt tired at all. I usually bring my MP3 player and just get lost, till times up. Keep that in mind!0

I am doing my first 20k 6/2 and plan to do my first half in October. Feel free to add me.0

I just ran my "offical" 10K run...in 00:58:47. Immediately thought of trying to run a HF. Not many of official ones in India. The next one is in Aug end. So, planning to start training for that.
Anyone following a training plan. It would be good if we can share and track ourselves against that.

Please add me...anybody who can be of assistance or who I can help! I am starting training Monday, June 4th...my first half will be in November...with lots of steps along the way (my husband an I run a race every month, just to stay motivated...my profile pic is from May 19thWarrior Dash NC)...I'm doing a 10k in September, a 15k in October (then the half...it's a three race series I'm planning to do). I'm not sure what the best training plan will be, but I've gotta start doing something.0

I'm going to spam all of you on this thread and hopefully add you all to my friends list too
My first half is this Sunday! Woohoo! I'm nervous but I keep telling myself to just trust in my training and enjoy it. I've signed up for a 15k on 7/4 and have some other halfs in mind every 3-4 months for the next year or so. I really want to keep momentum up, and discovered that I love training with a goal in mind.0 -

I'm hoping to do either the Warrior Dash or Spartan Sprint next year. So once my half is over this September I'm going to cut back on the running a tad and work on strength training. Any advice on training for such an event?0 -
I am running my first half marathon in October & will be doing the relay portion of the Rock n Roll marathon in September. I will start half marathon training next week
Sweatpantsrebellion- I did the Warrior Dash last month & if you are a regular runner then you will have no problems with the running portions. I would definitely recommend some strength training that focuses on upper body strength. I was doing the 30 day Shred video workouts & going to the gym lifiting weights on my "rest" days when I was not running. I am glad I did too because I know they definitely helped me out when it came to climbing over the obstacles.
It is a lot of fun & I will probably sign up again next year too0 -
I ran a 10K the end of march in 65 minutes. Not really kept up with running consistently since then, but do a short run a couple times a week. I did 3.8 miles in 42 minutes last weekend and would like to do the same tomorrow. There is a big half marathon in November that I am seriously considering doing. Not sure about the training part or anything, but I am motivated to give it a try. Any advice would be great. It's exciting to think about doing something like this!0

I'm a fairly new runner but will start training soon for my first half in November, so feel free to add me! Just ran my first race today-a 7K and loved it!0

I've been training for my first-ever half since early April. Just ran 9 miles on Saturday and can't believe it!0

I have emailed the organiser of a HM in august. Its an off road track around a resevoir.
I asked if the track is very hilly and what sort of times the slowest runners tend to do it in, I don't want to still be finishing once they have packed up and gone home! :blushing:
I did 21km on friday, but my GPS cut out and started doing weird things around the 13km mark, thankfully i knew the distances of where i was by then and was able to just finish the distance to make up the 21km!
But I started that run telling myself i NEVER have to run that distance again!
I felt so good and strong by the end of it that i finished thinking hmmm maybe i should do an official one after all :laugh:0 -
I'd love to join the group even though I am not running my first half.
I am running my second half on 9/16. I ran my first half in 2009 at 2.27 then got pregnant so had to put plans on hold - so this kinda feels like my first one.
I hope to get to the same level as 2009 as the sleep deprivation is more serious this time round.
Am currently only running three times a week because am working/looking after baby and her sleeping is a bit erratic. One of them is in interval run (500m intervals X 7 at 5.5mins per km), a 10km run at about 7.5min per km and currently a 16km run which surprisingly is quicker at 7.1min per km
I am trying to turn the 10km run into a tempo run but I just can't get it for some reason. I find that if I try and up my speed I can only hang onto it for about 10-15 mins and then I have to slow right down for the next 30 because my left calve in particular just seizes up .
Any tips appreciated0 -
I am running my first half in October. Anyone can feel free to add me! I can use all of the accountability and support that I can get and I'm more than willing to give it as well. :-)0

Hi! I've just booked my first half for 9/9 (thanks kburgess247!).
I ran a 10-mile race a couple of weekends ago and came in at 1 hour 23.5 mins so would love to try for 2 hours or thereabouts. I've run the distance once on a long Sunday run, but I suspect racing it might feel a bit different!
Feel free to add me if you like - I'm always very happy to talk running, even though I don't know much about it0 -
Hi, I'm a newbie runner and I'm running my first half marathon in November. Add me if you like!0
-
I've never been a runner - always been an athlete, but never got into running...until now!
I signed up for my first half for October 14. Exactly twelve weeks out. I've been slowly working my way up to the beginning of this training which I officially start this week!
Here goes nothing! I would LOVE if any of you added me to help keep me motivated, accountable, and EXCITED!0
