Hi, I just calculated my BMR and its around 1400 calories. Should this be my daily goal or should I leave it at 1220?

Hello. I think you should target the 1220. The BMR indicates the calories that your body needs to maintain your weight.

    Not quite...

BMR is what your body burns to maintain its essential functions - like heart beats and brain waves. That's what you would (theoretically) burn if you stayed in bed all day, not moving. (It means "base metabolic rate")

I took an average of my BMR from a number of tools, did the same for me TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) based on a sedentary job (I work in an office on my heiney all day), and reset my numbers to reflect TDEE minus 500 calcories/ day, to make sure it was always above my BMR.
