Stalling on Atkins

I've lost 7.5 pounds on Atkins since starting it on 6/25. I am at a complete stall. Got on the scale and still only 7.5 pounds. I'm getting frustrated that it's been 4 weeks and still the same. I'm on induction, 20-25 net carbs per day (except this weekend I went a little buck wild)

Any suggestions?!!

Have you measured yourself? Sometimes the scale won't move, but you are still losing inches. Also, some people find that artificial sweeteners and caffeine can hinder their loss (caffeine and sweet n low don't seem to bother me, though sugar alcohols do, ie., atkins bars, even those allowed on phase 1 can hinder me.)

Not sure what kind of exercise you are doing, but I find that even though its said you don't have to exercise, I do. I'm one of those that always has to work harder to lose the weight. And if you are less than 25 lbs to goal, it's always harder to lose the last bit than it is if you are 80 lbs overweight.

If you are keeping track of your meals, I'd advise to go back and compare what/how you are eating now, to the weeks that you were losing and see what if anything is different.

If all else fails, just hang in there and keep doing it and the scales WILL eventually move in the right direction!

I'm down 2 inches on my waist so inch-wise I've lost. I have to say that I avoided exercise since induction, just walking on occasion. I will have to up my walks and workouts.

I just find it amazing that I've drestically changed my eating habits and am not drastically losing weight! It's frustrating. :explode:

Induction is only 20 carbs. Would you consider opening your diary just long enough to get some feedback?

Trust me..... damage on the weekend isn't worth it. Even small cheats mess up induction quickly. It takes me a good 3-5 days of "Induction perfection" to make up for a bad weekend afternoon, even when I stay under my calories. Plus I have to go through "carb flu" again. It has taken me a while to figure out it's just not worth it to cheat at all!

I'm glad you opened your diary. Honey, I'm sorry to say it, but you are not following Atkins.

    These are no-no's:
    Pasta salad and macaroni
    Cool whip
    Coca cola
    black beans
Regular ketchup (Heinz reduced sugar is okay)
    Tortilla chips

Look at ALL ingredients before you eat/buy something, and the big thing you're looking for is added sugar or aspartame. Speaking of aspartame, I would also steer clear of sugar free jello. Most dressings have sugar. Fruit is not allowed until later stages. Tea has been known to stall weight loss in many ppl. So do Atkins bars and shakes, fyi. And Dr Atkins limited us to no more than 3 servings of sweetener a day.

Sorry if this is discouraging, but it would help tremendously if you read one of Dr Atkins books. Understanding his rules will help you follow them!

If you go further back in my diary I stayed below 20 carbs but this past weekend I gave into temptation, sick and tired of avoiding carbs and not getting anywhere.

Good point, I forgot about your weekend. So I went a few days back and found a few more items that would definitely stall me...
    Atkins bars and shakes
    Dressings with added sugar
    Beef jerky!
    Fig newtons
    Honey turkey
    And not enough water!

For some reason, I've found that heavy cream and mayo stall me. Over time, you'll find out some Atkins-legal stuff that just doesn't work for your body, but that takes lots of time and experimentation.

Start Induction over, read the book or at least some detailed online guides, and stick with it AT LEAST two solid weeks before you allow yourself any leeway or move to the next rung.

I followed Induction for 10 months, I KNOW you can do it for two weeks!!

Thank you very much for your help. I told myself that no matter what I would be honest on my diary even if I slipped but I've got to kick myself in the butt and stop cheating. I have 28-30 more pounds I want OFF before October so I HAVE to be strict.

    Thanks again!

Your post does not make sense. You say you started 6/25 (4 weeks ago) that you lost 7.5 lbs and that you have been stalled for 4 weeks . How is that possible? Did you lose the 7.5 lbs all on the 1st day? 7.5 lbs in a months is fantastic. You need to have realistic expectations.

Then you say you went wild this weekend. Well, when you are Low Carbing one high carb day can but several lbs back on you and it will take several days of being good again for that to come off.

I've lost 7.5 pounds since starting Atkins on 6/25. I didn't lose it all in one day. So for 4 weeks total I've lost 7.5 pounds. Do I know how many pounds I've lost every week or everyday...NO. What I know is since starting Atkins on 6/25 until yesterday (when I weighed in) I was at a loss of 7.5 pounds. 4 weeks, 7.5 pounds.

Yes. I had a wild weekend. But for approximately 3 weeks and 5 days I was doing well on Atkins i.e. Carb net total equaling 20-25g.

You lost 7.5 lbs in 4 weeks , even with a cheat day. Sounds pretty good to me. Why would you say you are "stalled" ?

Stalled is when you have been doing everything right and the scale still has not budged for several weeks.

What was your expectation of how much you would lose after a month?

30 lbs before October? That's 10 weeks, 3 lbs/week that is VERY Aggressive weight loss. You may have unrealistic expectations.
    1 lb/week Nice
    2 lb/ week Aggressive
3 lbs / week That's a VERY tough hill to climb.

I don't see any exercise logged. Are you doing some and not logging? Without increasing your burn losing 3 lb a week would be virtually impossible unless you were on one of those medically supervised, ultra low calorie liquid diets.

I thought I would lose the 15 pounds in 2 weeks on Atkins (and I know it depends on how much you have to lose, water weight etc.) I do walks daily and do not log them because I don't feel they're an adequate burn and if I see the increase in calories I used to overeat and eat back my exercise calories.

When I work out hard I will log but just minimal workouts aren't, in my mind, worth logging. I would LOVE to lose 30 pounds by October but I understand that is a difficult hill to climb.

    Thanks for the feedback.

With 7 lbs already gone, I think your goal is doable. I've learned there are NO cheat days with Atkins! So stay on the program and you'll get there.

Aggressive and tough, yes, but very doable on this Woe. I've lost 2.72 lbs per week, but then I'm quite strict and by the book. Just want everyone to know you CAN do this!

I would give it some more time. When I first started Atkins in October, it took about 10 days for me to lose at first. Your body is adjusting to the changes--your diary looks good in my opinion--you just need more water. Also, I don't know about others, but the Atkins products stalled me the first time I did Atkins, if you can do without them, I would.

Here's an indelicate question: Have you been going poo regularly? Low carb can cause constipation. Make sure you drink a lot of water and take a fiber supplement every day.

I eat a salad at least 5 days a week. You need to be getting your carbs from green leafy veggies and acceptable fruits. I also try to not get more than 10-12 carbs per meal so that I don't have on carb overload then have to eat only zero carb stuff the rest of the day.

I have heard over and over again that the atkins bars & brownies can definitely stall you. Stay away from them at all costs. During induction, you shouldnt go over 20 g of carbs daily. Make sure 12-15 of those carbs are coming from veggies on the acceptable food list. Are you drinking your water? That could be another reason for your stall. I hope this helps!
