Starting to feel worse!

I don't know what's happening, but I don't like it! I am soooooooo tired lately - more than my hypo normal - I am lethargic, like I felt when I was first diagnosed hypo - like I have been either drugged or been hit by a Mack truck or both.

I am severely moody and have a very short fuse. To top it off, I have this wicked headache for the past 3 days that won't go away. I got headaches before, but when I started eating better 2 weeks ago, there were fewer. Now, it's commonplace and steady. It's really wearing me down, and all in all I feel like bursting into tears at the drop of a hat.

To top it off, I am home with my kids, and they fight and bicker like mad, what's new with siblings, eh? BUt my oldest is now on his THIRD bout of strep throat in as many months, and now has it with a vengeance along with a horrible earache. Top that off with a hubby who's just been back to work for 2 months (which he hates) after 18 months leave and now HE is a major *kitten*, I feel like everything is falling apart and I don't know how strong I can be anymore :( I'm not superwoman, I really try to do everything that I can - but it doesn't seem good enough. :(

To top THAT off, now I am going to be going back to work I am sure on Aug 27, still looking as fat as I do, because I am not losing weight. :(

    I'm sorry things have been so difficult for you lately! When is the last time you had your thyroid levels checked? I have generally found that when I don't feel right - especially if it involves fatigue and moodiness that isn't typical - it usually has something to do with my thyroid.

    I would agree -- could be your thyroid levels, but could also be low Iron/Ferritin or low Vitamin D.

    Easiest is to get some D3 over the counter and start taking maybe 1,000 MG per day. I personally take 50,000 per week.
    And you can take it all at once for the week - so you don't have to remember to take it every day.
    Low Vitamin D could cause the mood issues.

    I also take extra Vitamin C every day -- 1,000 mg 2x a day. I have Hashimoto and it helps with my immune system.

    If Vitamin D doesn't help, I would head in for blood work. Your T4 levels should be on the low-side of normal and your T3 levels should be on the high side of normal -- that's when your thyroid is most optimized.

    Along with Vit. D, it could also be Vit. B12. You could also try over the counter Vit. B12. I've had both of those levels tank, and both can make you feel extremely run down and tired. It also sounds like you are under a lot of stress. I don't know if you can find some time just for yourself, but it might help to cope with everything else. Another thing to consider is your level of sleep. Is it possible you are not getting enough sleep? So sorry you are having such a tough time.

    Once I started on cytomel, I did start up with a bunch of supplants - among them, D3 and C, as well as B12, because I have been B12 and iron-deficient in the past. But, it was just astounding to me, that after all these dietary changes, supplements, coco oil, lower-carb, minimally processed foods, etc. that I was feeling so cr@ppy!! I guess I have to really start incorporating the exercise again, but I am just so friggin exhausted all the time! I wake up with a headache and feeling as though I am dragging my feet through the mud, with my joints aching! This sucks. lol I guess I was just hoping that my diet would help in kick starting some weight loss, that would maybe help with the fatigue and/or motivation.

    This could be adrenal stress -- your adrenals create cortisol - cortisol is the hormone that escorts T3 into your cells. If you have adrenal stress and insufficient cortisol, the T3 that you are taking in cytomel never gets into your metabolism -- it floats around free and is not used. So, you still feel hypo.

    There's a 24 hour adrenal stress test that involves taking saliva sample 4 times during the day - normal cortisol levels should be highest upon waking in the morning and gradually taper down until you go to sleep.. then they should build back up while you are sleeping. When you have adrenal stress, cortisol levels are either flat, or they peak at the wrong time of day.

    There's a few treatments for adrenal stress -- most doctors use hydrocortisone. I have it, and my ND is providing me with herbs/supplements - if they don't work, he will work with me to get the HC.

    I can sympathize! I have gone through periods of the fatigue you speak of & things just pile up on you and you are just so tired, defeated & run down. You don't feel like you can be a good mom, a good wife or even just yourself.
    I have been back & forth with my Dr. on the extreme fatigue lately and all my blood tests have come back perfect. I also have a Vit D deficiency and those numbers were just okay so that could still be contributing; however, my dr.'s noticed my protein was not as high as it should be. They encouraged me to up my protein & "good" fats. I've only been doing that with a protein shake (brown rice protein is all I can use due to dairy intolerance) since Friday & I can honestly say I am feeling much better! Actually I hate to jump the gun because everytime I seem to feel better I crash but I am very hopeful right now. So maybe just check your diet and see if there are any modifications you can do. My dr. suggested I watch fruits b/c there are so many carbs & sugars in them. She said if I eat 1 handful of fruit, eat 2 handfuls of veggies. Also, my dr. told me to take a cold shower daily as it energizes you. Just some suggestions.

    It sounds like adrenals to me. I had similar symptoms several years ago - couldn't lose weight, crazy insomnia (went almost a week without sleeping), mood swings, couldn't handle stress at all. Do the testing. The other vitamins will help, but it doesn't hurt to find out if it is the adrenals.

    So, what did you do for your adrenals? I have adrenal fatigue, and its sure not responding very well to what I'm doing. Thanks for any suggestions! Deb

    Sorry things are not going well for you and the family. Kids know when things are rough and they behave even worse. Take yourself and the kids swimming, get everyone tired, go for a walk, to the park, anything to exhaust everyone. I have no suggestions for a husband as I have a dog and got rid of the other. My son always needed lots of exercise or...........trouble. Also, yes, get another blood test to see what is going one with your thyroid.

    My doctor put me on a gluten free diet (which I believe you're already on) and a supplement called Adapten-All. My adrenal fatigue was actually caused by a parasite in my GI tract (along with some traumatic events in my life), so the gluten free was originally to clear out my insides so I could test for it. But I was doing so well on the GF diet that I stayed on it and now I can tell that I do have a sensitivity to it.

    another thought. when I started cytomel the doctor reduced my synthroid. It is possible you are now hyperthyroid, I get very tired when I'm hyper, again you need a blood test to see what the problem is. I think it is not you, but the meds. Hang in there. It takes a year to get the dose correct my doctor told me.
