Adopt-A-Pal!

Welcome to the 2023 Adopt-A-Pal Group!

This group is dedicated to MyFitnessPal members that would like to volunteer their time to mentor or adopt a newcomer to MyFitnessPal. As we approach the new year, we receive an influx of new and returning members who could greatly benefit from the experience of our experienced veterans.

For those who participated in the 'Adopt-a-Noob' discussion in 2018 and before, this will be a familiar experience to you. Whether you were a previous mentor, or a mentee who benefitted from that program, we hope you will consider lending your experience to us this year and volunteer whatever time you can spare.

Mentor/Mentee sign-ups are open from now, until February 1st!

Mentors
There are no particular prerequisites to becoming a mentor beyond the desire to help out and guide other members, and no specific time commitment or number of assigned mentees required to participate. If you feel that your experience on the platform could be helpful to others in any capacity, please feel free to sign up as a mentor.

We will maintain a list HERE of all the members that would like to volunteer their time as a mentor. We suggest that you post some background (essentially a short profile) on yourself to give the new members some prior knowledge of your interests and specialties. If at any time, you want to revise or remove your post, please send an update to any group lead (@Nova, @Durden, @Betty), and we will alter or remove your original post as soon as we are able.

If you see new members posting in the 'mentees' discussion, please feel free to reach out to them if you think they'd be a good fit for you. In fact, it's encouraged. Mentees are free to reach out to potential mentors as well, but it's great if you are open to taking the initiative and offering your guidance first.

Mentees
If you are a new or returning member, or simply feel that you could benefit from some guidance (even if you aren't new!) please feel free to participate as a mentee by introducing yourself HERE.

Once you have introduced yourself, you may review the available mentors in the Mentors discussion, and send them a friend request if you feel they would be a good fit or a great friend. Keep in mind that mentors are NOT obligated to accept new friend requests or mentees for any reason, including it not being a good fit, or already having a full plate helping other mentees. Once your potential mentor has accepted your Friend Request, you will be able to Private Message each other, and provide encouragement and support on each other's News Feed. We would also recommend setting your Diary to Friends Only or Public so that your Mentor (or other friends) can keep track of your progress and provide more specific guidance.

Thank you for your support!

P.S. - As always, be aware of sitewide guidelines when participating in this group, and when communicating with your mentor/mentees. Please be aware that any breach of our guidelines- Including the harassment or spamming of other members- Will result in punitive action. Please report any such breach of our guidelines to a staff member, especially if you are being harassed or being made uncomfortable.
