Hi everyone, looks like I will be on Prednisone for life now since my kidney transplant. In one year, I have gained 15 lbs and would like support and encouragement with Prednisone issues.
My experience with prednisone was short. My experience(S) with other corticosteroids have been short. I fully GET how they can mess with your weight, your metabolism, your cycle. You name it. Never let any one who hasn't spent time with them tell you "It's just math". "Calories in, calories out". YOU know better! I don't…
Looking for friends who are also struggling to lose weight/maintain while on this powerful steroid. I'm 47 and struggled with weight for 20 years. I finally felt this would be my year, and soon was taken down with a mystery virus that caused an asthma type reaction and closed my airway. I was in ICU on a respirator for 5…
I've been off and on high and medium dose prednison for nearly 12 years for a rare autoimmune disorder. I've gained approximately 70 pounds off of it and have been fighting to lose the weight for years. I've lost 30 pounds twice (and gained back and then some) and recently lost 17 pounds (and then gained back and then some…
I am exercising and I am eating a lot less then when I was on higher dosages, but still it does not seem to come off. Last time I lost and a couple kgs was when I reduced it. I am on 4 mg of cortisone and still have issues. I do seem to eat under my goal, and the computer is always saying you are eating too little. Does…
I am 43 years and have been on cortisone since my dx of Vasculitis in 2006. I have had off and on battles with my illness and my medicines. The weight comes off with reduction of cortisone but I am now down to 6mg which will not be reduced since I am having inflammation again. So here is the problem. I want to exercise but…
Every time I think I might be able to do some light exercise I quickly get a reality check. I can walk for short spurts or while hanging off of a shopping cart but anything that gets my heart rate up or puts stress on my joints will zap my energy in seconds. I tried doing a jumping jack and it took me an hour to recover.…
Hi all - Just needing to vent and commiserate a little today. I started on Prednisone in January at 40mg per day, briefly went down to 35 mg and am now at 60 mg for complications of dermatomyositis. I'm hoping my rheumy is going to get me on some other meds very soon and start to decrease the Pred dose. Over the past…
The prednisone causes such insatiable hunger! And nighttime is the worse. You can't sleep because of the prednisone, the house is quiet, it's awfully hard to ignore the rumbling tummy and hunger. Anybody have an idea that's worked?
I want to thank everyone that has joined and encourage you to start a new thread on anything you want to talk about. It doesn't have to be diet or exercise related, it can be about anything you want to chat about. Talk about your kids, pets, weather, anything at all, we're not restricted as long as we stick to MFP rules. I…
