  • Sigh, you all are either too funny or just a tad mean. I will go with both as I just can't decide.
  • Today my smoothie has peanut butter with spinach and a banana. It's different. All I taste is peanut butter, but it's still so green, which makes the whole experience odd. I have no idea what it will do to my appetite, but I think it might limit it quite a bit.
  • I definitely second the part about different instructors. I am particular about the instructor. I went to a morning class and it was at 5:30 am (I am not a morning person) and the instructor was nice enough, but her focus that morning was splits and she had a very brisk pace, or I could have been still asleep. Full on…

  • It depends. I do, but my base calorie goal is low as I am set as sedentary with a goal of 2lbs a week. If I were to use another method - TDE, then probably not. I use it as incentive to walk/exercise more. If I do more I get to eat more. If I am feeling lazy, I don't get to eat as much.
  • That is a pretty awesome method. Lol.
  • I did track those things once upon a time - but it's a pain and can take some serious time to understand what all the minerals and vitamins do and mean and what levels are good and harmful. I used a PC based program to do it. Not sure if they have one that is as easy to use with a smart phone type app. It was interesting,…
  • I don't even have a fitness board - I never really thought about it I guess. If I feel like I need to look at the pretty people to remind me what I am trying to accomplish I just go search. I tried a recipe board once, yeah, if things on the interwebs could gather dust, that would be it. I also forget that I even have a…
  • Do some actually use Pintrest for anything but pictures for fitness? I use it to find knitting patterns, but for fitness I just look at the pretty pictures. Also, I used to follow "eat this at this time". Meh, like others have said, in top physical condition, sure it can make a difference. But for the run of the mill work…
  • You use a lot more fun stuff than I do. I almost never use yogurt, not sure why. I just don't. My recipe is supposed to be about 400 calories for 1 serving. It's a pretty large serving. The calorie difference would be the half avocado, grapes, yogurt. I use frozen berries to get it be cold. I tend to leave out the chia and…
  • I use a ninja thing - I got for the horsepower. I put all kinds of entertaining things in my morning smoothies. FYI - I don't think hazelnuts and bananas are supposed to go together, it was an odd mix. Also, if you ever use aloe gel in it, don't go overboard, it has a strong flavor, or at least it did for me. I use…
  • I would recommend going to to a Yoga studio that offers a variety of yoga classes. They should have the gamut of yoga - you can normally do drop in and try different styles and see which ones you prefer. http://life.gaiam.com/article/beginners-guide-8-major-styles-yoga I would not recommend starting with Vinyasa or Bikram…

  • I am weird about the things I do weigh and the things I don't. If it's something I feel will be high calorie, I will weigh it, or things out of open containers - yogurt, cottage cheese, regular cheese, some meats. I do weigh any type of crackers, chips, or snack foods - that is the one area I tend to pretty strict on. I…
  • I used to occasionally hike in jeans when I was first hiking, but cotton and denim kills in the high country, so I don't any more. I only wear wool or synthetics to work out in or hike. Maybe yard work, but even then I wear yoga pants.
  • Will keep all comments about desks and Air Force to myself and play very nicely with the other branches. But I got a good chuckle.
  • I wasn't too sure about using body fat to get in - and I know the Air Force used to be a popular branch and could be quite picky about who they took for their quotas. My experience is from quite a few years ago, and I don't know what the recruiting scene looks like now. But I do know that the Army has been actively engaged…
  • My experience stems from active duty Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, and ARNG. That was very kind of Brian to offer his advice and experience - I would recommend taking him up on it.
  • Huh, DOMs it is. Lactic acid as taught to me wasn't even mentioned in the WebMD awhile. Interesting. Learn something new everyday.
  • Just a bit off topic, but have you met with a recruiter at all? To discuss with them your plans - and to see if you are even qualified if you did indeed lose weight? Also weight isn't the end all be all in the military, body fat can be used, and is used in many instances for military members that do not meet the general…
  • I find that when I have overdone the upper body routine that doing some morning salutations (yoga) helps. The arms going above the head and then diving down to a body fold, to a plank, to a upward dog or baby cobra, to a downward dog, then walking back to a folded position. Or just you-tube it. There are a few different…
  • I always looked at planks as a foundation exercise. I find push ups incredibly hard (it's purely mental) but if I think about them as a variation of planks they get better. Most of my plank exercises are variations, one leg up, legs to the arms, legs to the chest, holding a half plank, walking planks. I am currently trying…

  • My adorable beautiful little one brought home over 4lbs of candy. Sigh. I even put aside some, logged it, ate some eggs for dinner and now I don't want the candy. Since I logged it, I will save it for tomorrow. Or for wherever I want it.
  • Anorexia is much more complicated than eating less than a certain amount of calories. It is a control related disorder. The short of it - anorexia is about control. Yes, much of pro-Ana items are related to food, but more importantly there is a lot of hiding and not wanting anyone to take away the thing they can control.…
  • My first pregnancy was hard, just flat out life threatening hard. Getting back to my regular weight wasn't hard, nor did I have that many body changes. It took me over 9 years to even consider having another child. Having my children a decade apart was interesting. While the second pregnancy was easier, I gained much more…
  • Supplements during the instruction phase? I don't recall that - but I did the induction phase well over 10 years ago. The first 3 days sucked, but it got better. I had a rather funny experience in college while on the maintenance phase of the plan. My nutrition course happened and the professor was very anti Atkins. She…
  • Uhm, I don't see a problem, looks like it would help with chafing. Wear them if they are comfy.
  • My weight can flux dramatically in one day, especially near TOM. Even 7lbs. It will work itself out.
  • I empathize, there are so many things I dislike about being overweight. It is ok to feel this way, even if it feels horrible. Life is not platitudes of self awesomeness, but on the same hand it is not about self loathing. It is ok to vent, and express, but try to be kind to yourself. We are only human and perfectly…
  • I find the marketing nightmare funny, and I wonder what the memos/emails look like. Also it's pretty awesome as an internal control failure example.
  • Sorry for your loss. I have no idea what I would do if my kitty died, besides get her stuffed, and take a week off. Yes, she is that important, so be kind to yourself while grieving.
  • Jelly beans and beer for now. Some days I still miss them. I also have given up taking candy from the office bowl. I walk by it everyday about 8 times. It hardly ever calls my name now. I occasionally look at it, mentally calculate the calories and think if it's worth it. Some days they even get in my hand while doing the…
