  • While I enjoy Tim Ferris' podcasts, he does have a tendency to major in the minors, especially when it comes to diet/exercise. A great deal of his recommendations are a lot of work for little reward, especially for people who aren't aiming for high level fitness goals.
  • I've used the Pioneer Woman's pizza crust recipe for years. http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/my-favorite-pizza/ It's even better if you make it a day or two before and leave in the refrigerator until an hour or two before you need it.
  • Depends on situation. There is no sub for good bread on a grilled cheese or reuben. But for some sandwiches I like to use wraps like Flatout or Tumaros for the extra fiber & protein. They are lower calorie too, which means more calories for CHEESE!
  • Guilty. I was really good through almost all of my weight loss. Then I took a maintenance break and got sloppy with logging and I'm having a hard time kicking the BLT habit.
  • For DOMS I'd continue to work out. I think you'll find that you feel much better if you keep moving. Walk after your workout and the next day. Try to warm up by briskly walking 10-15 minutes before your next class.
  • I find one of the biggest benefits for things like potatoes and eggs is not having to worry about the pot boiling over! With potatoes, you don't really save much time if you are cutting and peeling them, but if you cook whole potatoes it works great! I love to use smaller red or yukon golds whole with skin. Cook at…
  • Make sure you are using a very small amount of detergent - the residue can cling to the fibers and absorb odors. I also use baking soda or borax in the wash and use the "allergy rinse" option to make sure any detergent residue is rinsed out. Never use fabric softener. I've tried vinegar, and not only did it not remove…
  • LOL I hear there's a lot of paperwork involved with either of those options, so seated it is! If he gets serious about lifting I'll see about talking him into going to the rec center. Then I can have my little home gym all to myself again.
  • Unfortunately, the rack isn't the problem. That's an easy fix. He's so tall the 8' ceiling is the problem. He hits the ceiling or the top of the press.
  • My husband has decided he wants to start lifting. I was going to get him started on StrongLifts 5x5 because that's what I used and I'm familiar with it. We have run into one little problem with overhead press though. I have my barbell & rack set up in our basement... my husband is 6'7" tall... I think you can see where I'm…
  • And I'm the opposite! I've learned to tolerate and even like the taste of cooked green pepper in some dishes, but can't do raw green peppers. Any other color I'm fine with. Other than raw green peppers I'll eat about anything as long as it's not overcooked. Like crock pot recipes... I have very few crock pot recipes that I…
  • My first question would be how did they measure your body fat percentage? Those bioimpedence-based electronic devices and scales are notoriously inaccurate, calipers need someone who is skilled and even the expensive bod pods and medical DEXA scans have as much as a 5% margin of error.
  • Fitbit only awards "active minutes" for activities that are at higher level than normal walking and lasting more than 10 minutes. As an example, it won't register my run to the gym because that only takes 7 minutes then I stop when I get to the weight room. But if I run to the gym then go run on the track for 5 minutes it…
  • I use the treadmill while the rest of the house is sleeping and have the same problem. My treadmill is close to the TV, and I'm cheap, so I went with a Digital to analog converter on the TV and plain wired headphones with an extension cable. They are big and bulky (I only walked on my treadmill when I first started) but…
  • I never buy boneless skinless chicken breasts. Just not a fan. I get whole birds or bone-in parts. Sorry, I lied. I do get the occasional package of pre-cooked rotisserie chicken breast from Costco for convenience. It has better flavor and texture because it's cooked bone in. I freeze in individual portions for quick…
  • So funny that you brought up batch cooked chicken! When I got there for dinner I had to chuckle, because I totally called it: plain brown rice, plain steamed frozen broccoli, plain baked chicken breast. After a few bites I politely asked for a glass of water to wash down the ball of sawdust stuck in my throat. As she…
  • Losing fat is the only thing that helps with cellulite. There are no skin creams or exercises that remove fat from a specific area. As so eloquently described by USMCMP, it's like trying to dry out one corner of a sponge. The fat comes off from where it wants to, you can't make it come off of certain areas with anything…
  • You don't have to give up sushi, IHOP & teriyaki. Just eat an amount that fits it into your calories for the day!
  • Captain Morgan or regular rum and diet coke/pepsi with a a lime is my regular go-to. Sometimes I'll have a gin & soda with lime.
  • I won't be eating there until later tonight. But things aren't promising. When I went there for a cookout this summer the grilled chicken was cremated and the asparagus cooked to mush. I loathe overcooked foods. Boneless skinless chicken takes a bit of skill to cook properly and there is a general tendency in the midwest…
  • If you have an outlet mall nearby they are often worth a shot. Sign up for emails to get extra discounts. I stalk the clearance racks and get tons of stuff at Banana Republic & Loft outlets for $5-10 a piece. Sometimes less!
  • I switched after a little over a year, but during that year I did a couple months 2 days per week @3x5 without adding weight while training for a half marathon, and spent a couple months deloading and working back up after I pulled a hip flexor. I got up to a little over body weight squat, (145lbs) half bodyweight bench…
  • I have a friend like that. She always asks me what I do, then says she's going to do it. But then runs after the next fad diet she sees. I'm currently watching her slowly get sucked into a ridiculous MLM diet sold by a mutual acquaintance. I'm ready to disown them both. She invited me over for dinner tonight. She said she…
  • I was on a scrapbook message board that was all sorts of crazy. Between arguing politics, engaging in competitive parenting, and picking apart each other's religions they still had the energy to critique scrapbooking and photography techniques. If they were really on a roll, you could get all in one thread. I recall a…
  • Mine is imagining myself and my husband traveling all over the world and being able to physically climb to the tops of cathedrals and snorkel in tropical seas and hike anywhere we please when we're retired and old. Backstory: A couple years ago my husband was laid off from his airline job one month before being able to…
  • Thank you for sharing this! I do this too. If I have a high carb/sodium day or weekend, weight generally goes up 3-7 pounds over two days and takes at least a week to settle back down. It's frustrating when even trend apps spike up and down several pounds at a time.
  • I've used cottage cheese as a chip dip since I was a kid. Extra yummy with green onions or chives added! I also blend it before using is lasagne if i don't have ricotta cheese handy. Love the pudding idea! I've done that with greek yogurt but not cottage cheese. Might have to try with pistacio mix...
  • That's hilarious! Someone should tell those NutriNinja people. They think liquifying perfectly good food into disgusting slop "unlocks" the nutrients and makes it MORE nutritious.
  • Calories first. Then I I make sure I get enough protein. Everything else generally falls into place on it's own when I get those two things in line.
  • I got hooked during the week 5 20 minute run in C25K. That was when I first time I experienced the feeling of being able to do something I never thought I could do and I've been hooked ever since. I started C25K because I wanted to run a mile just once in my life - I never could run the whole mile in the school fitness…
