  • Make sure you are counting the calories for those chia, hemp, and flax seeds. They are calorie dense and if you are not measuring accurately can skew things dramatically.
  • Google "Mexican Chocolate Tofu Pudding" and follow the NYTimes Mark Bittman recipe. It is fabulous and no one that ever tries it will know it is tofu.

  • I am so sorry for your diagnosis. Good luck with your recovery. Adenocarcinoma is the most common form of breast and colon cancer. Obesity is a risk factor for both those cancers. I've seen several oncologists over the years and I know that they are very busy and often do not have the best bedside manner. Perhaps you can…
  • I don't use NS but I do use another pre-packaged system. The system I use has packages of food that are all around 15 to 20 grams of protein each. I tend to stick to the packages that are open and eat and supplement with the allowed vegetables, sometimes cooked, sometimes raw. For breakfast I use a premade "shake" and mix…
  • I agree with PPs. Ask your doctor about depression. I did and was prescribed a low dose of prozac. I saw immediate results with some of my eating behaviors. I seemed to stop some binge type eating, where I had to finish every cookie in the pack, and some emotional or boredom eating. It also helped with depression a bit,…
  • I take it for Fibromyalgia. In the beginning it does tend to suppress my appetite, but I think that effect eventually wears offs. I've taken it before and had the side affects mentioned here, re: dopamax. This time I increased my dosage gradually starting at the lowest and going 6 weeks before increasing. I'm not sure if…
  • Thank you for the info and encouragement Lor.
  • CGV. How much did you lose before the plateau?
  • Thank you Midwest. That is interesting. Especially about also not gaining weight in a plateau. You also reminded me of some other calories I should be logging. I have not been logging condiments like soy sauce and horseradish. I really need to clean up my logging.
  • Thanks for reminding me OOC.
  • Good point Lynn. When I reach a certain weight I am supposed to drop one packet per day. That would automatically reduce my calories per day. But, that point is also the point that I plan to go on a regular CI<CO diet. With my current fibro and CFS symptoms, lack of movement, and diet, I have likely lost muscle mass.…
  • Thanks HM. This is just what I'm wondering. Lots of people talk about plateaus, but are they really just in need of an adjustment? I know what I need to do, but thinking it through did make me curious.
  • Thanks CMR. There are other reasons for the supervised diet. I am aiming for a goal my doctor and I agreed upon and will soon return to the real world and continue CI<CO on my own. I do track all my food, even the packages. I'm actually a great cook and love all kinds of food. There's no way this diet is forever.
  • Right Danger. I'm pretty sure I'm a little heavy handed on the olive oil and that can add up fast.
  • Thanks for your reply CMR. I do plan to make sure I am more precise about CI and try for a little more CO. I think one of the best things about the food plan is that I may be able to come very close to knowing exactly what my CI is (as long as they are accurate on their packaging) and should be able to figure my CO by my…
  • Do you have those individual servings of lemonade type drinks in your grocery? Here we have Crystal Lite. You can carry that that and mix it with Vodka and Club soda. It's not too bad.
  • You have gone to a well known clinic that bases it's program on scientific fact. According to their website, your BMR testing included a consultation with a registered dietician so you should have also learned what this number means and how you should use this information to help you formulate a plan to lose weight or…
  • I am on a medically supervised VLCD. I started at 270 pounds. I only lost 4 pounds the first week, half of which was water. So if your aim is to lose a bunch of weight in one week you should reconsider and follow the advise of the folks that have recommended a more sustainable plan.
  • If you are interested in a vegan diet for weight loss, I recommend the book Eat to Live. I am currently vegetarian but followed the Eat to Live program for a time and felt great and lost weight. The author is a doctor and his advice is researched and quite sound. The main issue is that it is hard to follow. Especially if…
  • Why don't you contact the company?
  • I am in a situation very close to yours. I have RA and fibromyalgia (and likely chronic fatigue.) I have been trying to get to a "normal" weight ever since my first diagnosis many years ago. I don't know if it is the medications I have taken over the years or the diseases themselves, but my energy expenditure is incredibly…
  • I am on a medically supervised low calorie, low carbohydrate diet. I do not take any weight loss drugs but I do take drugs for fibromyalgia that have some appetite suppressing side affects. I'm not sure if it is the drugs or the low carb, but I am rarely hungry on this diet. I am losing weight but it is still CICO. My…
  • My husband was well experienced with lifting and I appreciated his help when I started. At first I followed his exact routine so that he could show me how to do each lift or use each piece of equipment. He looked at my form and helped me make adjustments. Please be aware that this is going to slow you down and that there…
  • I just started on Topamax for a second time. This time for Fibromyalgia. Years ago I took it for a short period of time but had to go off of it because it made me stupid. I was in graduate school at the time and could not manage my required statistics classes. Regarding weight loss, I never, ever thought about food. I…

  • I despise fruit in yogurt, but like fruit flavors. I started adding powdered Crystal Lite lemonade, or pink lemonade flavors to my plain non fate greek yogurt. It is tart, creamy goodness.
  • I also have taken Topamax. I was taking a very low dose (supposed to gradually increase) and I never thought about food. I had to make an effort to remember to eat. Side effects for me were cognitive impairment. I was in graduate school and suddenly could not function in my statistics class. It wasn't a memory thing, I…
  • As far as the fake meat is concerned. I almost never use it in cooking. Chilli with beans is just as good for me. Chopped up broccoli heads in marinara sauce, makes it seam meaty. At holidays, I make a vegetarian version of all our favorite side dishes and may add some sort of baked tofu steak, but not always. But, I do…
  • That Mark Bittman book is great. I try to keep meals pretty simple. Today I am going to make some quinoa and add roasted brussels sprouts and black beans. I cook my quinoa in veg broth seasoned like chicken broth. Sometime I'll add bouillon for more flavor. This dish is good with any number of different kinds of…
  • What do you like to have for breakfast? If you really want "meat" for breakfast, try some of the meat substitutes. We keep Morningstar breakfast patties in the freezer. They have the same spices as regular sausage, so you are getting a similar flavor.
