  • @Cindy, and anyone else with "keto flu" I Ordered 1gram sodium chloride pills from Amazon. I take 1-2 a day to add to the salt I put on my food. This way I can avoid the msg etc. in most commercial bouillon. I do not always have time to make bone broth and it still needs to be salted. Table salt is only 60% sodium. The SC…
  • Hello dear ladies. I just finished reading the entire thread. It took me 3 days. I feel like I know all of you a little bit. I'm going to jump in into a couple of the questions that have been posed throughout the thread and with a little bit of introduction. My name is Paula. I chose my username because my mother's name…
  • Ground turkey is pretty high. I love to add spices and make breakfast sausage.
  • These are the three things that help me the most 1) 30-50 grams of protein in the morning. I drink whey protein and sometimes have bacon and eggs as well. This above all other strategies seems to cut my evening binge urges. 2) Amino Acid therapy as described in "The Diet Cure" by Julia Ross 3) The book "Brain Over Binge"
  • I am currently reading the book. I am hoping to use her method in combination with a healthy eating plan and amino acid therapy to break the binge cycle. Tomorrow is day 1. (Cue ominous music)
  • I am the OP of the amino acid thread. I would recommend that you check out Julia Ross's books "The mood cure" and/or "The diet cure". I have found that supplements including amino acids do help control the occurrence and severity of binges. The aminos work on increasing feel good chemicals like serotonin and dopamine which…
  • This will likely be my final post on this thread simply for lack of anything new to say. The amino acids have proven to be an excellent tool to have in my arsenal. Coupled with a good nutrition program, counseling and emergency binge avoidance tactics, binges have been much less frequent.
  • Mom of 3, check. Paleo, check. Yoga, check. Reading, check. Running, err not so much. Sending you a request.
  • I was referring to the Primal/Paleo support group as wonderful...as in very supportive. Whether the op tries Paleo or not, that is the place to get better information instead of the main forum.
  • I am not sure what long term health effects could occur by simply avoiding things like wheat, sugar, processed food and seed oils. I eat all of the macronutrients Protein, Fats and Carbohydrates. I eat 1600-2000 calories a day. I have lost a good amount of weight. Like others said, try it and see if you feel better in any…
  • There is a wonderful Primal/Paleo support group here on MFP. I have been eating Paleo for 5 years. I love it.
  • Everyone has to follow their own path. The VLC and moderate carb people often do not get along merely due to the rigidity of their stances. I hope this thread can be helpful without falling into negativity. I am very interested to hear how things go for you. I have been intrigued by the idea of eating zero carb. I'll also…
  • True, any paleolithic eating plan is comparatively low carb.
  • Thanks meghanner, I love how keto feels, but the longest I have ever stayed on it was 6 weeks. When I binge on Keto the high carb consumption causes several pounds of weight gain overnight. Recovery is harder and I feel sicker afterwards. I have three solid days on higher carb and already my sleep and mood have improved.…
  • cindytw, Dairy is only a very secial occasion food for me. Sadly I do much better without it.
  • That is why I love the Perfect Health plan. I get a pound of starch!
  • I agree, the BED has many facets. I tend to have fewer binges on a higher level of carbs. No matter the carb level, I try to keep above 1500 calories, usually closer to 2000.
  • I am plugging along with the amino protocol. I am currently trying to get my eating program in line. Sometimes I do not eat enough good food. I definitely have had the experience of the binge monster being stopped by the supplements.
  • You are brave and Inspirational. I am sorry for the pain you have gone through. I am happy that you are entering a better phase of your life. Your observations could help many people. I am thinking about them now. Thank you for sharing.
  • Excellent! I am still having trouble with those "special occasion" times. Early Sun morning I had a binge because we went to the drive in for a double feature and we got home at 1 am. I was exhausted and started binging instead of falling into bed. Sunday during the day I was still suffering from lack of sleep, so ate…
  • Had some fabulous no binge victories on Friday where food was left alone with me twice and I did not eat it. Lol Sadly, Yesterday was a total binge day from beginning to end. Today, I feel in control. So, I have to conclude that the aminos do not prevent bingeing for me, especially during high emotional or hormonal times,…
  • I think my students are trying to kill me. My last class of the day left food as well. I threw it in the garbage as I walked out the door. Shocking. Now I am home with my kids while my husband is working (prime binge time), and I am not even tempted.
  • Just reporting in...I have had five binge free days since I came back from vacation. I am heading into my first period since I started this protocol. It will be interesting to see how many binges I have. Even when my BED is under control, I have issues at that time of the month.
  • Great job! Today I am suffering from PMS emotions - tense, tearful etc. It is so bad that one of my students noticed and asked if I was alright. The last several weeks, I have been using amino acid supplements to lessen the urge to binge. It has worked well, but today I am fighting binge thinking. One of the students in my…
  • You can take them in pill or powder form. I am taking 6 supplements, 3 times a day. It may seem like a lot, but the change in my BED behavior is stunning. I would recommend to anyone who is interested, that they search Julia Ross. She has very specific recommendations for different issues in her books. There is also some…
  • I would suggest trying to supplement amino acids as recommended in "The Diet Cure" and "The Mood Cure" by Julia Ross. I Have been posting about my experiment with these in the Binge eaters support group. Ross believes that part of the sugar craving problem is a brain chemistry imbalance; a lack of feel good chemicals such…
  • Thanks Tatarataa, Amino Acids are not dangerous per se because our body takes them out of the foods we eat. If a body is severely out of balance, amino acid therapy may be necessary for a period of time. Once the body is back in balance and a good whole food eating plan is regularly followed, the amino supplements should…
  • I have continued to take the aminos. My eating on vacation was better than on past trips. I did have a few binges, but they were more by choice than compulsion. I was staying in a place where junk food was readily available. I am back home and ready to seriously get back to the experiment.
