  • Coffee helps me, but I have friends that it acts the opposite on.
  • That article has nothing to do with your claim of people eating sugar and invalidating thermodynamics.
  • You're my MFP twin! Or close enough. I'm 322, 6'0", my calorie goal is 1830 as I entered my height as 5'9" to lower my calories slightly. To OP, your activity level makes your calorie goal seem about right. I'm listed as sedentary, but with my normal Fitbit step count of 10K to 15K steps, my calorie goal jumps to around…
  • If you start eating more carbs, you're going to regain water weight. There's no way around it. When you're following keto, your glycogen stores are depleted. Eating carbs will replenish those stores, and each glycogen molecule has water molecules with it, so water weight gain. Just be prepared to see some of the weight…
  • Intelligence and a nice voice. And a British accent (Tom Hiddleston-sounding) tops it all. (I know "British accent" probably isn't the correct term, so I included the one I was thinking about.)
  • Welcome to Night Vale! It's amazing, I've listened to it for quite a while now and I still love it.
  • I don't get all the people saying it would be rude, when most of us use one ourselves. You know your family/friends better than we do, are they the type of people that would consider it rude? I, for one, wouldn't mind in the least if a friend (or even just an acquaintance) needed to weigh their food before eating. I don't…
  • Water is actually made of chemicals. As is food. Chemicals are not harmful things meant to ingrain fear, unless they are known toxins. Which aspartame, and/or diet soda in general, is not.
  • If you're worried about corrosion reactions in your stomach, try to limit your eating of aluminium cans.
  • Add me if you like! I'm a meticulous logger and pretty active. SW 368 CW 323 GW 168 6'0"
  • Higher education isn't structured the same worldwide. My bachelor's degree program in chemistry was spread over four years, not three. And my classes were not every hour of every day (though I only missed 1 class session in those entire 4 years). So I worked early morning before class, every free hour between classes, and…

  • I get where you're coming from, OP. I found it incredibly hard to lose weight while attending university full-time and working full-time, because I was a stress eater. I managed to lose almost 100lbs throughout my first 3 years of undergrad, and then gained 50lbs of it back during my senior year of undergrad and first year…

  • I also stopped drinking Diet Pepsi a few months ago when they switched to sucralose. It made me sad, I loved drinking them! I've switched back to Diet Coke, even though I don't like it as much. Or Diet Dr. Pepper. I believe they make both of those in caffeine free versions.
  • I actually calculated (Fitbit - 500kcal) when messing with the numbers, while waiting for an experiment to run this morning. If I assume that Fitbit gives me 500kcal too high for my burn each day, my theoretical deficit for the month would have put me at a 6.8lb loss. Giving room for a margin of error due to me retaining…
  • After general consensus, I'm going to eat no more than 2,000kcal a day. I'll report back in a few weeks and see how it affected my losses. I know my Fitbit has to be overestimating my burns, as the numbers simply don't add up. Thanks everyone for your help!
  • I've actually recently been tested for insulin resistance, as my general practitioner thought I might have it. Tests came back negative, and not watching my carbs didn't hinder my weight loss previous to getting the Fitbit, so I'm assuming they're not a problem for me. I'm pretty active throughout the day, and set aside at…
  • I generally don't eat back any calories on the days where I only walk 1 or 2 miles, I don't consider those my active days. My active days are usually at least 3.5 miles.
  • I'm not sure how much my heart rate it getting up to, I don't measure it. I just thought I should eat back some of the exercise calories since adding 5 or 6 miles of walking on top of (what should be) a 1,000kcal deficit seemed like a formula for problems. I didn't have a set calorie goal, just tried to aim for a 1,000kcal…
  • I'm thinking about sticking to 2,000 a day for my active days. It seems like a good start. I've calculated my TDEE before, but decided to stick with MFP and Fitbit to see where it landed me.
  • I'm a chemist, data and excel are life! :# I've been only eating between 50% to 75% of my exercise calories back, but based on the numbers with my current activity, it seems like I shouldn't eat them back at all. I'm going to adjust and see the results after another month. Thanks for your help!
  • I actually lowered my height by 2 inches this morning, thinking it might help. I'll lower it more if I need to. I don't feel deprived or anxious to binge, the only times I feel really hungry are the mornings after an activity-heavy day. I'm not having any trouble sticking with it, just slightly discouraged that my weight…
  • You should weigh everything solid, even prepackaged things. It's very common, for me at least, to find that everything doesn't quite match the weight it's supposed to be. Those calories can add up, if you eat a lot of prepackaged foods.
  • I'm curious, is being 300lbs putting you in immediate danger? Because I'm the same height as you, same starting weight, but my current weight is a little higher than yours. And my weight is not causing me any problems. I'm active (walked 7 miles today before and after work), I have an active social life, and my weight…
  • Most of those scammers do indeed steal before/after pics to sell their products. There's a gif of a woman who lost weight (I think she starts out in a grey shirt and ends up in a green one) that I saw when she originally made her weight-loss post (her post was on Reddit, I believe). I've seen that same gif posted by…
  • I've fought binge eating my entire life (I'm 26 now). I got control of it for two years (a few years ago) in which I lost almost 100lbs, and then over the next year and a half I binged and regained 50+ of it. There's no trick (that I know of), there's nothing anyone else can do (believe me, I looked everywhere for…
  • I've been craving a chocolate chip frappe for weeks, and my weekly net is really low this week. I'm going to have to treat myself to one tomorrow! :p @OP , I track my eating with MFP. Eat whatever I want, as long as it's within my calories. Recently started adding in a lot of walking, tracking that with a Fitbit and…
  • Start preparing your food a few minutes before whoever you're eating with. Once you get used to weighing everything quickly, the whole process should only take you a minute or two.

  • I did keto for 6 months, roughly two years ago. I followed it perfectly, lost around 40 pounds in that time frame. I stayed full, only noticed it was time to eat because I would get a headache after not eating for 7 or 8 hours. I had no heartburn (which I usually get a few times a week) and just generally felt great.…
  • I did keto two years ago, and the subreddit was a great help! They even have a specialised macro calculator in the sidebar.
  • Thanks everyone for your input! Seems general consensus is to just wait it out and see, which is what I'll do.
