  • I use a graduated cylinder to find the density of the mL-only items that i use the most. If you want to be ridiculously accurate about your calories, that’s one of the best ways. But looking up the information online is a much easier method, and definitely a more sane one.
  • My fitbit starts adding calories when I break the 2500 step barrier, that’s the sedentary line on mine.
  • Nothing is wrong with either, but if you just want to give them up for fun, I’d suggest giving up diet coke first. Less caffeine, you can wean yourself off of it and then coffee. I quit coffee cold turkey last month, from a ridiculously high caffeine intake. The withdrawals are no joke.
  • I bought a physician’s scale off of amazon. One of the best weight loss related purchases I’ve ever made, as I like to know I’m getting precise numbers that aren’t varying when stepped on multiple times in the span of a few minutes.
  • Before the stretch marks came along from being overweight, I had (and obviously still have) stretch marks on my the insides of my elbows, knees, and even on the tops of my shoulders. I grew ridiculously fast as a kid, and didn’t stop until I hit 6’. I have to wonder if those people would expect those marks to be covered…
  • I’ve been here a few years, and rarely see anything new these days that make me do a double take. But these are just... wow.
  • Neither of the sources are what you claimed them to be. An interview and a case study are hardly “peer reviewed scholarly articles”. I feel like that’s the latest term everyone wants to throw around to support their opinions.
  • I searched for “ovulation hunger”, and not a single topic on the first page had a title specific to ovulation. And there were less than 150 results total. There was no reason to be nasty about someone asking a question that actually isn’t asked that regularly. There’s a relevant difference between period cravings and…
  • Chemist here. Based on the scientific evidence and peer-reviewed journals, aspartame (the artificial sweetener usually found in diet soda) is safe. But it’s always a good idea to do the research for a topic you’re not sure on, rather than to just take someone else’s word for it.
  • Used to drink mine black. I’m on a temporary hiatus from coffee after a near/slight overdose a few weeks ago. The terrible withdrawals afterward were enough to keep me off of caffeine so far. But the chemicals in the coffee itself don’t?
  • I’m hoping to lose more, but it sounds like a great group so I’m joining.
  • Only if you’re doing keto, everyone knows that’s the only way to burn fat.
  • List your credentials and scientific sources, dear.
  • I think planning ahead was/is a big necessity for me. I worked full-time while going to university full-time for a chemistry degree. And now I’m in my third year of a chemistry PhD. Free time is non-existent, but I squeeze out an hour or two of time a week to food-prep. Even if that consists of throwing something in the…
  • Unhelpful, as they didn’t ask. Some people choose to also follow keto while being in a calorie deficit. OP, there’s no need for keto-testing. If you keep your net carbs under 20-ish a day, you should be in ketosis within a few days of starting.
  • My local Walmart has a huge selection. Just bought oatmeal cookie last night to try, and it’s incredible!
  • I eat them for lunch most days. They're great! Especially the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers.
  • I'm 6' tall. I started out being very obese, I've lost about 70lbs so far (still obese), and have only gone down one size. Maybe two. At taller heights, it seems to be pretty common to take more weight loss to lose a size.
  • I lost weight because I bought a Fitbit. I didn't realise before then that I wasn't even hitting the "sedentary" step count, and should have been deducting calories from my daily goal. Which in turn got me to move more.
  • Are you a Zelda fan? I'm just curious, since that white dress is inspired by The Legend of Zelda game series. I believe a fan made it to wear to her wedding, if I'm recalling correctly. (ETA: I'd wear it, also. It's gorgeous.)
  • I'm one of those people you're talking about in your first paragraph. And I agree with @RunRutheeRun. You can't make yourself taller by eating less. We overweight/obese people crying about our weight can literally just make better food choices and lose weight. I can reach my goals if I want them badly enough. No one said…
  • What are your stats? (Height, weight, etc) Are you weighing everything you eat to be sure you're logging correctly? Have you let MyFitnessPal recalculate your goals since the weight loss? Do you eat back exercise calories, and if so, how many? Amazing job on your weight loss!
  • There's nothing wrong with not knowing how to track calories. In my opinion, using this app is the easiest way. It's worked well for me. But others have given you a lot of feedback about other ways, so good luck however you do it.
  • Were you wearing clothes and footwear? If yes, I'd say it was part of your measured weight. It's important to use the same scale to track your progress, though. Weighing one weight today on your scale and then weighing a few pounds more tomorrow on a different scale doesn't mean that you gained weight. It just means that…
  • There are scientific reasons for quitting smoking. It's bad for your health, and the health of others. There aren't any scientific reasons for not eating sugar. It doesn't cause extra weight gain, and for me it doesn't hinder weight loss. I have several bowls of Christmas leftover candies in the house, I eat maybe one or…
