  • Don't sit at your sewing machine for hours on end. It's not just bad for your circulation, it's bad for your back and your eyes. Set up your ironing board as far away as you can. (and if you're not pressing frequently I'd be happy to give you a lecture about why you should). Every time you do get up for something stay up…
  • I bake this as a loaf instead of rolls, https://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/potato-onion-rye-rolls-recipe. It's lighter in whole grain than I usually make, at some point I need to try subbing some whole wheat for some of the white.
  • Where are you getting the 330 calories burnt from? I'm 5'1" and don't come close to that, more like half that doing cardio. (based on Fitbit or Polar HR monitor)
  • It sounds like the blog was based on the MATADOR study. The group that was rotating on and off of the calorie reduced periods actually lost more weight than those on continual reduction, they also had a smaller reduction in resting energy expenditure. It was, unfortunately, a rather small sample.…
  • Blue Bonnet's "original" flavor has vanilla but no sweeteners. Bob's Red Mill whey, which I can pick up in local grocery stores, has no sweeteners.
  • @heybales That does seem to be what it's doing, the adjustment remains roughly the same calories/time across workouts. I can see the reason for doing it but it would have made sense to tell us they were making that change, I assume it's not just Polar they made the change with. Since I don't eat based on it but I use it as…
  • Syncing between the apps doesn't, or at least didn't, use MFP's burn estimates at all. It simply transferred over the time and calorie burn from Polar to MFP. Up through January 21 the calorie burns matched what Polar said. Now they are lower. Today I was the gym for over 2 hours. Polar says I burned 663 calories, MFP is…
  • I'm having this same issue, it used to work just fine.
  • I'm pretty sure the yarn is coming off of his wrists, there are no tails leading down to that bag. If you look at his website there are pictures of him working both ways. I am seriously impressed that he can knit words into those scarves while running.
  • I can walk and knit (I'm more likely to read and knit) but I'm pretty sure if I tried running it would not be pretty. :o
  • Your hair is really damaged? Are you sure it's falling out not breaking?
  • Frequent shampooing might cause dryness but not hair loss. If it's falling out more than normal make sure you're not under eating and that you're hitting your protein and fat goals. If your macros are all good talk to your doctor. I shampooed daily for decades, I only cut back because it got hard to find shampoos I'm not…
  • Has your trainer tried changing your routine? Double checking how you're engaging your core? My waist and midriff were getting bigger and bigger even as I lost some weight. Trainers just kind of shrugged their shoulders and said things were shifting. I did 6 weeks of PT for a knee problem and those core stabilizing…
  • Actually, being super bendy can be a detriment. Just ask anyone with any hypermobility syndrome. I would very happily give any of you my ability to do a split if in exchange someone would give me knees, shoulders, and ankles with bones that stay where they belong. The middle splits video - when she got to frog I laughed…
  • I'm curious, why the focus on splits? That's not a flexibility that makes any real difference in day to day activity.
  • Spinning really should burn a little more than knitting which is really just sitting. Someday I'll put on my heart rate monitor while I weave to see if that's burning anything, bigger arm movements, core engagement, quad engagement, surely it's burning something.
  • Resistance (machines, not heavy because it messes with my joints too much), zumba, yoga, treadmill, stationary bike and a little stair master. I can't be in the sun so anything outdoors is out. I do like to dance but even that leaves me hurting and tired. Changing the activity won't change that sweat feels like acid and…
  • So, eventually it started to feel good? I'm not there, three years in, I've yet to feel any endorphins. I continue to hate exercise. I am jealous of those who feel good when, and after, they exercise. All it does for me is make me hurt and tired, and grumpy from the hurting and tiredness.
  • I desperately want this to be the result of a bunch of smart *ss answers. Unfortunately, know better. I spend part of my time working in an outdoor/living history museum. We have tilled fields and kitchen gardens, livestock and poultry. Like other museums of our type we have a litany of stories of surprised and confused…
  • My physical therapist had me doing straight legged leg raises, toes pointed out. He also had me doing leg press while squeezing a pillow or small ball between my knees.
  • I worked with trainers (not always the same person) for a little over two years. I don't take nutrition advice from trainers who likely have fewer college credits in nutrition than I do. I don't need junk science and woo in my life. I did work with a nutritionist (RD).
  • Thank you for that link! That is the first thing I have read that acknowledges some women can and do get bulkier than wanted. That sums up my experience. And, no, it wasn't just fat loss uncovering muscle. My arms, thighs, and waist were getting bigger and bigger. Clothes I had worn when I weighed 50 pounds more (lost with…
  • Up in a bun. Ponytails and braids still get in my way. My hair is to my waist so even a French braid is long enough to get caught on something.
  • I can't make it sync. Have you tried setting it up?
  • Unfortunately there is some research showing this to be true, beyond the whole tricking the brain and causing cravings thing. It seems one of the aspartame metabolites may actually change/interfere with metabolic pathways causing fat gain. The study was done with mice but unlike most rodent studies they exposed them to an…
  • The first one we got had a "canned" nutrition program which was so one size fits all that I knew it was useless for me. I opted for the personal "health coach" route and after listening to my habits and problems just told me they couldn't help me. We ditched that program. The next advertised nutritional counseling. I…
