It might not be too different from enjoying any other things in moderation. I don't particularly care for alcohol, so it was relatively easy for me to reduce intake - I will now have only a glass of wine or one or two gins with diet tonic when out. But for me, my pre-weight loss consumption of chocolate was fairly extreme.…

That's not an ice cream, it's Marge Simpson

It sounds to me like neither what you do during the week nor what you do during the weekend is actually good for you. Long term success is all about teaching yourself moderation and sensible eating habits that will sustain you at your goal weight.

Hi! We started at almost identical stats - I'm also 5'5, and I started my weight loss journey at 185 lbs at the age of 40, a year and a half ago. I am currently maintaining at 138-139 lbs, at about 2,000 calories a day. I walk at least 10,000 steps a day, but do no other exercise. I lost about 1 lb per week for the first…

Leftover curry makes fantastic breakfast. Yum.

I eat chocolate every single day, and I lost 46 pounds. I had to learn to eat it in moderation, and it kind of works now. I eat about 200-300 calories in chocolate every day (but I am in maintenance). Yum. With crisps, I still struggle with the "in moderation" bit so I pretty much never buy them, but if I'm offered some…

You might have your answer right there. So you're not actually eating 1400-1500 calories a day, you are eating more than that if you have a large unlogged meal every six or so days. I go out and eat in restaurants as well, but a) I refuse to call them cheat meals, I hate the name, and b) I log them, best that I can, even…

In a way, any pizza is absolutely fine, it's just that over the decades we've all completely lost sight of what an appropriate portion size is. I remember couple of years ago my husband and I ordered FOUR EXTRA LARGE pizzas because they were on a special deal and proceeded to eat most of them for one meal; I dread to think…

I stopped weighing things like raw spinach and salad leaves, as it doesn't matter whether I eat 4 or 8 calories worth. I still log them approximately, more as assurance I'm eating enough vegetables. I also tend to eyeball the calories in raw tomatoes - they are very low calorie and consistent in size so easy to estimate. I…

Hi! I log absolutely everything, good or bad, but I'm now in maintenance, having lost about 46 lbs.good luck on your journey!

Hello @cerise_noir ! So did I :) you may be able to tell by my user name

A year and a half to lose 46 lbs, from BMI 30 to 23. Started at 1lb per week, had a long finish at .5lbs per week. Currently maintaining at 139lbs. Edited to add: I think slow is good; maintenance sure looks much more similar to losing 0.5 lbs per week than to my "before".

OP, I can see you've already taken on board the advice not to eat as little as 1000 calories per day, but I just wanted to add another problem with eating so little that no one has mentioned yet - 1000 is so little that the chances are also that you would be left so famished you would at some point give up, and end up…

1350 calories is not a binge. I'm also 5'5 and my starting weight was185; a year and a half later I'm maintaining at 139, and I don't think there was a single day I ate as low as 1350, let alone the dreaded 1200. I ate 1600-1800 calories consistently, increased my activity to over 10000 steps a day to keep my calories out…

I've been doing it throughout my weight loss over the last year and a half, and I think occasional eating at maintenance really helped me. I was at a consistent deficit only the first couple of months, and then I incorporated occasionally eating at or slightly over maintenance. Probably about once a week at maintenance…

5'5 and a bit, 41, just recently got to my goal weight of 139 (63kg). I so envy the previous poster whose leg inseam is 33'' - mine is barely 28''. Because of my really long torso and short legs I don't think I should go much lower in weight; I fit into UK size 10 easily now, and I'm happy to stay there.

A pound a week is actually pretty fast and requires eating a whopping 500 calories a day below maintenance. Congratulations on your great progress so far, and it sounds like you're doing everything right.
-
Not nearly that much; usually a litre of water or tea plus what I get in food, unless it's really hot so I drink more. I'm still alive and my urine is normal coloured.

Often people overeat because they set themselves a too low calorie goal which is so difficult to adhere to, they end up so hungry they have to eat, and end up eating way more than they intended. So my first question would be what is your daily calorie goal, and what is your planned daily deficit (i.e. how fast are you set…

It was more to do with the fact I really love eating, and I wanted to make sure I can sustain the diet/way of eating indefinitely! Starting to work out more was more of a coincidence, I got a new job which is next to a beautiful park so I am able to go for walks before or after work and during my lunch break and I can walk…

Hi paige1stanley, Here is what my weight loss has looked like over the last six months. I was set to lose 1/2 pounds per week and that's pretty much exactly what I've done. However if you look at the graph, you'll see that there were weeks when I wouldn't lose at all, and many days and even weeks when I gained. Perfectly…

I have had success with eating about 80-90% of my (Fitbit synced) calories back. What concerns me is that you are saying 1,200 calories isn't working for you. You have to be more specific than that. Is it not working for you because you are losing weight but you are massively hungry all the time? Yes, eat some/most/all of…

Thank you all. I'm happy to accept any friend requests; also my diary is open for anyone who wants to see what a slow but steady diet diary looks like

Absolutely, I drink tap water. I think provision of clean drinkable tap water is something every (developed enough) country should do. I live in London so my water comes from the Thames - and obviously I wouldn't drink directly from the river, but by the time Thames water passes all the filtration and purification, it's…

My problem has always been not being able to cope with being hungry. I found out I can't last a day on 1,200 calories - there's just no way I can eat that little, I'd become ravenously hungry and have binges, which totally defeats the purpose! I can only go as low as 1,500 for a few days at a time. But I discovered I can…

Exactly this. I'm down about 45lbs and I've eaten a small chunk of chocolate pretty much every day while losing weight.
-
Mine reduced a bit after significant weight loss; I was about 34H or 36H at 185lbs; I'm around 32F or thereabouts now at 140lbs (UK sizes).

This. That sounds like a dangerous amount of water to drink, even if you spent the whole day trekking through a desert. Particularly - and I'm not saying you are, I don't know you - but if you were drinking this amount of water out of any kind of anxiety relating to losing weight - that would be worrying.

Over 1,000 calories for 10k steps does sound a bit excessive. I'm 5'5 and 140lbs and I get about 400 calories for 10k steps. But at your height you can certainly eat more than 1,500 calories a day and lose weight. PS you ate 0.2 of a chicken liver? That sounds more like you used it in a magic potion rather than in a recipe…
