  • Texas here, ya'll.
  • It's an excellent tool for tracking and accountability if you use it correctly, log accurately and are consistent. A bonus is a great support community to keep you on track and focused. If you are committed, you will find it beneficial. If you haphazardly use it, no it won't help you much. And welcome, by the way! :)

  • I'd like to help... tell me about your lifestyle and what you WANT to accomplish.
  • I like Vega Sports Performance Protein powder (vanilla). Very tasty and nice texture. It's a plant based protein and great for recovery after a workout. I get mine at Sprouts Market or GNC or Vitamin Shoppe so most health food stores probably carry it. You can also get it online from their website. So far it's the best…
  • Fantastic! It's hard enough but while getting through nursing school - that's double tough. My daughter graduates from nursing school in May so I know how demanding that lifestyle is. Kudos to you for improving your health AND taking on the demands of nursing school! Keep it up!
  • Are you kidding me right now? First of all - anyone who references the song Milkshake, says "hella sexy yo" and also throws in a Seinfeld Soup Nazi nod in one post is freaking awesome! As for the incident in question, yeah Handsome Lab Guy was a little douchey but probably has NO clue he was being a jerk. I doubt he meant…
  • Agreed. That is what I like about MFP. Yes it can get brutal sometimes and turn into a blood bath but mostly I find when I search the forums I find people truly helping other people gain better understanding. I have learned a lot on MFP forums but I generally take what I have read and verify it by doing further research.…
  • This subject never ceases to entertain. Thank you Morgaath for posting the pics showing how you can look "thinner" at 137 lbs than you can at 123 lbs simply by your body fat %. There's proof that the number on the scale is less meaningful than what the tape measure and mirror reveal. And it does look like that big blob of…
  • Welcome to MFP. You will find many folks on here are awesome motivators and supporters. Feel free to add me as a friend if you are interested in gathering up a support network. I'm always eager to cheer people on! Good luck!

  • Someone mentioned body weight exercies. That's an excellent choice since you dislike weights. Dips work great for triceps and you can slowly build your endurance. My body has never been hard, toned or lean either but since I started lifting I've made progress. There's always a way to modify and make it work for you. May I…
  • My body doesn't bounce back from weight gain/loss like it used to. By that I mean, skin tone just isn't what it used to be. It is by far harder for me personally to tone it up. It's not impossible but it's taking a lot longer now that it did in the past. I will say that I'm healthier, stronger and have better stamina now…
  • Bahahaha! Now that's funny! But you have a point. He's smokin' hot!
  • Thank you, gentlemen for your honest feedback. I am glad I deferred to those with greater knowledge and experience. And I will definitely take a peek at the gaining forum as well. Thanks again. :)
  • Men just don't see things like we do and what is important to us may seem silly to them. My husband will acknowledge that my hard work is paying off and how he admires my dedication one day and the next he's ranting about how I'm "obsessed" and need to cut back. Really? I either do cardio or lifting once a day. Rarely do I…
  • Okay then....I've read about body recomp and that is what I am trying to do. Reading this thread, now I'm starting to wonder about a few things. Several people here seem pretty knowlegable and may be able to help. I am at 26% bf looking to get down to 19%. I'm 5'5" and my weight is 122 (I don't care if it goes up or down).…
  • Well of all the things you could have ordered for breakfast, you definitely chose well. Compared to everything else on the menu, they aren't that bad. But they are pretty yummy. Life happens and we have to roll with the punches when it does. You are a sharp lady and obviously you are having great success with your goals.…
  • Mendoza, I'll help you out. Check your (inbox) messages in a few minutes.
  • I googled her after looking at the article and watched a slide show of her photos. No matter how I try I don't see this woman as plus size. I'd call her average if I had to put a label on her size. She is a beautiful woman in my opinion.
  • I forgot to mention I'm burning fat while building muscle. It's tricky but it can be done. You just have to follow the program without deviating. It's all about what you eat and how you workout. It's a perfect storm of diet and lifting. You have to fuel the workouts, eat in the right percentages of carbs/fat/protein, add…
  • It's frustrating I know because people see you are small and think you are fit, why are you worried about your body. But they don't know what's lurking underneath. Skinny Fat is embarrassing and demoralizing. I have the exact same problem and am working on toning and leaning out with Body Beast. I'm 5'5" and weigh 122 lbs…
  • Depends on the restaurant but some have the healthier options of grilled chicken, with rice and charro beans. I think if you avoid the deep fried tortilla wrapped foods and the cream sauces and cheese covered items you'll be okay. I know that is everything wonderful and good in Mexican food (my personal fav kind of food).…
  • Kettlebell workouts are awesome. Yes if you can do weights but modify for your shoulders you'll do great. Plus leg workouts with weights (holding dumbbells or kettlebells) burn tons of calories. I think you can find something that will work for you yet avoid injury yourself. Keep the weight light enough to keep you free of…
  • All I can suggest is cardio that will get your heartrate up there...more so than walking the dogs may do. I realize you have disc issues. Maybe look at fitnessblender.com for workouts you can do that will burn enough calories to help you lose. It looks like you are eating well, just make sure you weigh and measure so that…
  • Hi there. Welcome back. :) So, tell me how many calories you are consuming per day?
  • Hi. Body Beast has a Lean program that sounds like what you are looking for. I am in week 6 and have a few friend on MFP also doing the program. One male friend who is at week 4. We might be able to answer questions about the program itself. Feel free to friend me and I will connect you to others I'd you like.
  • If you have the book, it is suggested that you initially split 25/25/50 (Protein/Fat/Carbs). I was confused about macros too. It seems to be the building blocks of our diet and how we spread our calories out will depend on what we are trying to accomplish OR if you need to tweek it for your own body type. Some folks can't…
  • I use Vega Sport Performance Protein Powerd (vanilla). It's plant based. I blend it with almond milk and a frozen banana and it makes a creamy, delicious drink to help with muscle recovery after my workouts. I generally don't care for the taste of protein powders but this one is different. It could be because it is plant…
  • I see something I admire in all of these...from the curvy, the voluptuous to the lean and fierce. I guess it's all about what you have to start with if you are being realistic about a goal. Of course it's fun to envision the outrageous as well. When I was little, I just wanted to be Ginger from Gilligan's Island. That…
  • Oh yes. Definitely!
