  • I just switched to trainers (Nike Flex Trainer 4) today from running shoes, and it really made a nice difference. I felt a lot more grounded and supported on my lifts. They were even an improvement on the elliptical. I don't really do much running anyway, except for warm ups for Bootcamp class.
  • I feel your pain. I have always had to buy larger shirts to fit my shoulders. It is almost impossible to find clothes that are flattering to my upper body. I am now about 5 pounds from having a BMI at the high end of a healthy range for the first time in my life. I have actually gotten a couple compliments on my build and…
  • Thanks for the advice. I think I will try some more dumbbell and single arm work to see if it will help.
  • I've been trying to lose weight and gain ( or at least maintain) muscle. I have a straight 1750 calories a day, and try to keep my protein above 30%. I usually exercise every day, but it is usually just some mild cardio when I really need a rest day from sore muscles. The first month I lost 5 pounds. I have been stalling…
  • I just started strong lift a couple of weeks ago after reading about it on MFP. I had already been doing other weights in the gym, but the only strong lift exercise I had done before was bench pressing. My last 2 workouts: Squat 5x5 @ 70 Bench Press 5x5 @85 Barbell Row 5x5 @55 Overhead Press 5x5 @55 Deadlift 1x5 @100 I am…
  • These are so good: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=2151521 I like to use maple flavoring instead of cinnamon. I often have them with a side of lowfat chicken breakfast sausages or turkey bacon.
  • If you are in pretty decent shape, start with compound exercises that work a lot of muscles at once. I like the leg press machine a lot. I just discovered strong lift 5x5, which only has 5 exercises so it is easy to learn. Squats, Deadlifts, Bench Presses, Overhead Lifts, and Upright Rows. There is a stronglift group on…
  • I like to track my weight daily so that I can get an idea what to expect, and hopefully not get discouraged when I don't see any progress with my weight loss for a week or two. You can see the weight fluctuations at the beginning and end of my chart that coincide with my cycle. I am hoping to see a sudden drop in a couple…
  • I have been lifting for a couple months now, and doing bench presses and push ups regularly for over a year. I just started stronglift today and I am wondering about setting goals. I used the 45 pound bar for squats and rows, and did my bench press at 75 to start, even though I benched 85 in longer sets a couple days ago.…
  • I switched to reduced carb and high protein a month ago and started tracking on MFP. Please feel free to add me. So far my favorite recipes are for protein pancakes and low carb cheesy muffins. I am looking for other low carb friends to share meal ideas with.
  • Try not to get too discouraged over short term stalls and gains. Look at a longer average. I know my weight fluctuates quite a bit from water weight and bloating throughout the month. I just finished my first 30 days. I was starting to get a bit discouraged part way through the month with a gain and stall, but it was…
  • shifterbrainz, When you lose weight, you are not only losing fat, even thought the would be nice :) . I am guessing 3500 is an approximation of the amount of calories it takes to burn off 1 pound of weight, which is probably a combination of fat, muscle, and water.
  • My body doesn't seem to tolerate carbs well ( inflammation, bloating, sugar cravings), so I am trying to keep my protein between 30 and 40 and my carbs below 40. I set my MFP macros to 35/35/30. I am not used to eating so much protein, but it is working well for me so far. I have been meeting my goal of a pound a week and…
  • Absolutely! Add me.
  • Thanks to this thread, I finally tried these tonight. I tried the House Food brand Tofu Shiritaki and dry fried them in a nonstick pan with a bit of olive oil spray. I thought the texture was great. There are only 20 calories in the whole package. (Two servings, but I ate both) I will definitely buy them again. I topped…
  • I have been making Protein Pancakes almost every morning for breakfast. 1 cup oats, 1 cup cottage cheese, 1 cup egg whites, 1 tsp cinnamon (opt), 1 tsp vanilla (opt), stevia to taste( opt). I put it in my vitamix until smooth, and the texture comes out just like regular pancakes. I put 1/2 cup of blueberries in the…
  • FenTiger89, Like I said, baking gluten free did not help me lose weight, but it did help transition me in to eventually eating a healthier gluten free diet. Most of my favorite recipes came from the web. I don't really make them much anymore because I am counting calories and carbs. Trader Joes makes a pretty good gluten…
  • I started eating gluten free a little over a year ago. I noticed that I felt better within the first week. At first I learned to bake with GF replacements, but eventually tried eating more naturally gluten free foods. I gradually lost about 15 to 20 pounds over the year and found myself exercising more and more. Weight…
  • Is there a way in MyFitnessPal to make a note of when your period starts so that you can make sense of what the scale is showing during shark week?
