I cut way back on bread, pasta, rice, etc. I started paying attention to how many calories are in things, and choosing brands that were lower. I cut out high cal condiments. I cut out sweets except on special occasions. I mostly eat salad and meat now. Drinks haven't changed... I'm addicted to Coke Zero. :# Switching to so…

I definitely love that many restaurants now show nutritional info on their menus. I was just out yesterday needing to stop somewhere for food, and really wishing there was some tool I could use to do a city-wide search for a low-cal meal. It would have been so great to just put in my city, and be given a list of options…

I don't know that women are affected by the sight of men working out the same way that men are about women (or even other men). Sorry! :p

I have long (waist length) straight hair, and I typically roll it around my fist and hold it out of the way while I lather and wash JUST my roots/scalp in the sink every day. It's actually a lot easier than it sounds, and it saves the length of my hair from being over-abused. After my scalp is clean (and the first 3 inches…

I know it's frustrating. I don't know why more gyms don't have squat racks. However, you can still do lots of things! You CAN do squats, overheads and bench presses with the smith machine. Not ideal but you will definitely see results. You can do goblet squats with kettle bells or regular squats with heavy dumbbells. Just…

I am the same way. My willpower is pretty much ZERO most of the time. When I see what I want... I justify it, or just stop thinking entirely until the box/bag/bar/whatever has been consumed. I'm so bad that if I have a box of chocolates or something, sometimes I'll get so frustrated that I just angry-eat it all so it isn't…

Yeah, that's a smith machine. Not good for Stronglifts. You need a free bar because balance is a BIG part of the benefit of heavy lifting. Using a smith machine can teach you wrong form and limits what you can do. If you do not have any access to a squat rack, perhaps this is better than nothing though.

You pretty much need a power cage for 5x5s, and eventually you'll need an olympic bar too. I finally just bought a squat rack on Amazon and got a great olympic bar and weight set used off Craigslist. I have it set up in my bedroom and love it.

Yay! You're halfway there, and you look so great! Keep it up!

Wow, thank you for sharing, this is an amazing transformation! Beautiful work!

Exercise is great, but diet is going to be your biggest ally in losing weight. With 10 hour days, you have a great opportunity to hold yourself to a strict diet of good foods at a calorie deficit. Pack your lunch and snacks, pre-log your calories, and only eat what you brought with you. You'll definitely start losing…

I was hired for a couple of gigs hosted by Morris Claiborne from the Dallas Cowboys a few years ago. He was very nice and friendly.

Big Ol' Marshall TX checking in.

Funny, I was just doing rows last night and wondering if they were doing much good. Ha. But I'd do a million rows if I could avoid the deadlifts. Oh man, I hate deadlifts...

Oh noes.... I misread the diagram. Darn it! I liked my math better than yours. *disappoint* :'(

Ah yeah, 40 calories isn't hundreds of calories. Bummer. However, if I ate three dabbed pizza slices, I could earn one additional piece. This still makes me happy. (Another site listed 76 calories. I'm sure it just depends on the pizza.)
-
Ha - that's what I've been doing too. However, after enough dabs I might be able to actually fit in an extra piece!

You look amazing!

I'm in between sets on my Stronglift 5x5 program. Get it!

I seem to get hit on more when I feel like I look the worst. Ponytail, old clothes, dropping by the store on the way home from the gym. It happens like that often enough that I have to wonder if I look unapproachable when dressed more nicely. And no, I'm not pretty. Just average looking. Maybe it has more to do with the…

Wow, so sorry this happened to you. I would probably find a new gym. I would never want to see that guy again. Even if he leaves you alone, you'll still know he's critiquing everything you do. Ugh. I recently purchased my own equipment so that I don't need to deal with people telling me I need to be changing this or that…

Oatmeal helps fill me up without using up too many cals. Try finding the foods that will give you the most bang for your buck.

We all do need a certain amount of fat on our bodies to be healthy. I think 118 at your age and height is perfect.

Good encouragement, thanks! I know I was very very intimidated when I first went to my gym. Part of that was not having a set plan in place (wandering around not sure what to do), but I pushed through and it's much easier now. Everyone is there to better themselves. I'm proud of all of us for stepping in the door!

Thanks ninerbuff, I'll try this. I've actually stopped logging activity entirely, and am coming in below or right at 1200-1500 per day. Since doing that I am seeing a few pounds come off. Would you suggest switching to muscle/strength maintenance until the last pounds are gone, or continuing to push through at the gym?

Milkshakes YES... 540 calories for a MINI shake from Sonic. Not even a small. A tiny mini shake. Ahhh. Also small fries from Wendy's. It's a good motivator not to eat... I can't stand thinking that every single fry is so calorie packed. I'd rather eat an entire chicken.

I like to drink water with a bit of sweet tea added in for a hint of flavor.

This is AMAZING!! WELL DONE!! :D

I have been working so hard toward this day, myself! I'm using a pull-up assist machine, and have been slowing lowering the amount of "help" I get. But when I try an unassisted one... NOTHING. I mean... nothing at all happens. Ha. Oh well. My arms are looking great from all the trying, and that's what I choose to notice!
