  • Plain old boring Indiana but here
  • I would love to but time constraints always get in the way. I plan to go deer hunting every year and I haven't hunted since I went to Missouri like 8 years ago.
  • Haven't started packing my food yet for October but I was down looking at my internal frame backpack. I looked over at my wife's cheapo Outdoor products with semi- rigid strips. Got out my scale and my framed pack weighs 6 lbs. My wife's pack with my shelter, sleeping pad, and 20F bag in it weighs under 8#. I am thinking…
  • I have dehydrated eggs before with varied levels of success. THey always dried out but how good they were upon rehydration varied. I have some in the freezer right now that need powdered. Buying powdered eggs may be worth it though. Beef jerky, pouches of tuna and single serve Spam in a pounh are often parts of my…
  • Just to be clear the top routine is what I currently do with the first exercise mentioned done according to Wendler's 5/3/1. It's essentially Boring But Big with abs switched out for more chest and added runs.
  • Just tacked on another short trip. It's only 25 miles but it's hilly and for an overnight it should be challenging pacewise. Between this solo trip and doing a 25 mile section of the Knobstone Trail I am considering a spring solo trip on the whole 58 mile Knobstone if I can pace it out to 3 days.
  • I'm not really noticing much trouble with recovery... except sometimes on my 5x10 squats @40% right after deads. But I am running 10-20 miles a week and in deficit besides running 5/3/1 with BBB so I was thinking with a surplus and 5 miles a week of running I should be golden on recovery then. Maybe I am still tolerating…
  • Oh, and if I do a 5 mile or less I take nothing but my truck key.
  • Nothing right now. I have 2 25 milers (one overnight and one 3 day) in the next two months I will try to post pics of. The overall answer is less and less. I used to carry a whole bunch of stuff in a 65l pack strapped up with gear like the Beverly Hillbillys truck. ANymore it's like a fresh baselayer to sleep in, socks,…
  • I ended up going with the ignite. Won't compress down quite like a $500 bag. But at under 3# for a 20F treated down bag for $143 out the door I couldn't pass it up. I don't spend but 2-4 nights in it in a year so it was hard to justify spending 2-3x the price.
  • Pantera. Becoming. Good to see so much Pantera on this list.
  • It;s a tool with it's limits, especially for the overly muscular. But if you look at 100 people in most western societies with a high BMI... you might pick out a handful that are false positives. Waist to height and waist to hip ratios probably do a better job of picking out abdominal fat, but also have their limits.
  • Right now I'm doing 5/3/1 w/ BBB and lifting 4 days and trying to run a 3 miler, a 5 mile trail run and enough other runs to hit at least 10 miles... I feel like I run better fasted but I do tend to eat some carbs the meal before the 5 mile run.
  • Above 20% fat for a male are there any hormonal benefits to a carb refeed? or would it just be psychological? I was thinking that if I am typically running a gram of carbs per # that bumping it up once a week to replenish glycogen might be a good idea... or maybe I am trying to gice myself an excuse to eat a ton of fruity…
  • Deadlifts. No real rational reason other than it feels full on beast mode to just pick up as much as you can possibly pick up. I suppose the rational part is setting PRs on squat I fear having to actually use the rack, where a DL if its too heavy it's probably not coming off the floor.
  • I typically have the most trouble hitting protein numbers... and going WAY over on sodium. Fats are probably your best weight to calorie ratio, but isn't very filling to me. I tend to hit way higher carb numbers when backpacking. But pouches of tuna or chicken and various jerkies are great ways to hit protein numbers. You…
  • Only could hit 1x3 at 255 this morning (4 mile run last night) but I have had 1x5 @ 265.
  • Home-made tarp, pretty much a piece of 3 mil plastic with some grommets and tape. But if you feel you have a good system going you may find a good bottom quilt keeps you pretty warm in your hammock. In winter you either fight cold ground or cold wind and they both have their issues.

  • The compressed sizes of the bags look pretty similar, which seems pretty great for synthetic bags. But looking at the the poofy loft of the down bags unrolled and the thin lunpiness of the synthetics unrolled makes it really hard for me to believe they feel the same at 20F.

  • You can make a little stick stove (or twig rig as my buddy calls them" out of some #8 cans that weighs very little. Small alcohol stoves can also be efficient, but the jet stove is worth the weight (pun intended) IMHO. I think a tarp is preferrable to bivy or tent because of condensation. I use trek poles anyway and so I…
  • Don't listen as frequently but I always found Pantera Becoming to be the best for squats and deads.
  • Well, to get started you will have to figure out what your macros need to be at. For many vegetarians protein is the hard one to hit. Having eggs open helps a whole lot. If you can tolerate whey protein that can help hit the protein number as well.
  • My three year old is on the autistic spectrum and despite having very little fat on him is in the overweight and nearly obese range by BMI. He never stops moving and because of his sensory stimulation he is just super muscular for a 3 year old. I usually get up at 4:45 on gym days so I can get my gym on while he's still in…
  • You'd need to eat five bowls of Total to get the nutrition in one bottle of Wild Turkey...
  • I will buy appetite suppressant. A girl at work makes the office stink with them and I really don't want to eat. You could also put a little dog poop around the house as an appetite suppressant.
  • If you ever watch an old live TV show... like the Ed Sullivan that show teenagers from the 1950s in the US, they seem really skinny, almost underweight. Then I think that we just expect everyone to be at least a little overweight now.
  • I spend even more time at the gym or running during my wife's tom.
  • I think the term is misleading to a degree. It sort of set up an external locus of control. In some addictions and impulse control literature there are those who prefer the term "precursor" since trigger makes it sound like you have no choice in the matter. I used to smoke cigarettes. When I have a couple cocktails it…
