  • A nationally distributed brand Smuckers Natural has just peanuts & salt, no sugars or emulsifiers. I usully keep it in the fridge to slow down the separation.
  • The recipe looks good. Does it have to be cereal or are you just looking for a quick and tasty low carb breakfast?
  • It sounds like we are on a similar journey. I was diagnosed in September. I found a lot of good info at this site: http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/ So far I'm down about 70 pounds no diabetes meds so far. My goal is an a1c of 4.9 w/o meds and my planned method is strict carb control. I don't try to push my views on anyone…
  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H5uWRjFsGc The usual advice is that you should listen to your body regarding hunger signals but I think you have to listen to your brain as well. I'm very much a learner at this but I'll throw in my 2 cents worth as well. Plan for the eventuality that you will get hungry sometime and how…
  • It seems like the same idea could be used for chocolate.
  • Brussels sprouts roasted with bits of bacon. I've used slices of zucchini or eggplant as a bed for roasting chicken to soak up the rendered fat. I'm going to have to try the radish & bacon thing. With any of these it's a personal choice to decide what quantity of carbs fits into what you decide to eat.
  • For Valentine's my wife gave me a box of chocolates made with sugar alcohols. I tried one & then tried to pawn them off on my grandchildren. They had one each and then said, "No thank you." If that bunch rejected it, it can't be candy. For Father's Day youngest granddaughter (age 4) helped Grandma make breakfast. She…

  • Super! When that first digit changed is when I felt "I can do this."
  • Lisa, it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job. I'll repeat the same links I offered in this thread. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10180462/after-a-long-hard-fight-i-am-newly-diagnosed#Item_4 http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/…
  • Breakfast: Breakfast meat in small bits into microwavable container covered with plastic wrap; nuke. Add mushrooms; nuke again. Add eggs, cheese & perhaps almond flour; nuke until set. Serve half to spouse, eat half. (It's bad form to lick fat from plastic wrap until spouse leaves for work.) Container into dishwasher,…
  • I can only speak for myself, your body is not mine and each is different. The 80 pounds in 5 years is impressive and you can build on that. It took me 3 months of trying a lot of things to get myself consistently under 100 grams but I did find a couple resources that helped me get down into the range you are shooting for.…
  • What KnitOrMiss said except I would always opt for salmon rather than tuna. If I were to carry a tin, it would be kippered snacks. If some genius Norwegian were to package kippered herring in a pouch, it would be on my lunch menu forever. Someone needs to do a modern version of pemmican.
  • A lot of food for thought here. (I think Food for Thought is the working title of my never to be written book on eating to improve your mind.) Particularly from FIT_Goat, wabmester and KnitOrMiss. I think I've decided to add another line to my "I don't diet, I eat" mantra. The addition will be "I don't exercise, I live."…
  • I'll echo what others have said. It's a kick in the butt not a death sentence. The Blood Sugar 101 is a great resource. The next steps are up to you. You aren't in it alone, ask questions and many will help. Another great group is here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group…

  • I'm not an extreme low carb person but probably lower than many. On a typical day my carbs are about 50 gross, half that net. I didn't get there in one step. On a bad day my post meal blood glucose is under 110, on a good day under 100. Not terrible numbers for a T2.
  • Google "fat bomb recipes" for sites like this: http://nobunplease.com/14-fabulous-fat-bomb-recipes/
  • A one ounce serving of potato chips also has about as much potassium as a banana and about 10 grams of fat in addition to the above mentioned sodium.
  • I almost "pantsed" myself at the TSA checkpoint this morning. I may have to rethink my travel wardrobe.

  • Surprisingly, Walmart's Great Value Whole Milk Greek Yogurt Plain is made from just whole milk and active cultures. I like both the flavor and the "mouth feel."
  • I've put peanut butter on my hamburger. I've put bacon on my hamburger. I've never thought to try one with with peanut butter and bacon. I'll have to do it when my wife is not around however. She might think it weird.
  • Salmon, shrimp, kippered snacks (I love them, some people not so much). I find a small quantity of nuts satisfying but it can be tricky not to over do. A guide to pros and cons of various nuts can be found here: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-definitive-guide-to-nuts/#axzz3VUc30X72 He also does the same for seeds:…

  • I'm not trying to pick on anyone but looking at this from the view point of a retired manufacturing engineer the typical advice offered for tweaking a daily meal plan sound like a recipe for disaster. (If there is ever any doubt, a pun in anything I write is fully intended.) Weight measurements are "noisy." Carb recordings…
  • Based on the chart linked by Dragonwolf, it looks like peanut oil would be a reasonable choice for frying. I know it is used in a lot of commercial fryers but I don't think I've ever used it. What are the drawbacks?
  • You are doing great!
  • Great thread. Thanks all.
