I missed this thread because I was away for a week. My sister and her husband retired to Tampa this winter and invited us to visit. We were tired of winter in central NY and jumped at the chance. Enjoyed summer for a week. Back home to cold rain but at least the snow is all gone. Not putting the snow blower away yet though.

Many variables. Along with those mentioned above, wind and temperature can also impact the energy drain. The energy difference between moving snow at 20 degrees F and at -20 is huge.

Anytime a diabetic can get below 6, it is a victory. I have grown quite attached to my fingers and toes and my goal is to maintain a long term close relationship with them.

A fluid ounce is a measure of volume so technically you could use it but who would? For the non-metric world most would measure nuts by fractional cup, eg. if I want a snack of nuts I measure out 1/4 cup. For me it's too easy to overeat if I don't have a controlled portion.

I can't find the article just now but I read that the omega 3/6 ratio in salmon is controlled by what algae their prey ate. The chain starts somewhere.

I just kept doing what I was doing and eating what I was eating until weight loss stopped. That brought me to where I was 52 years ago. Added some wine which brought me up to where I was 50 years ago.

In 2014 my weight after getting up and urinating varied by up to 3 pounds from one day to the next. Today since I am 2/3 of the man I was then the range is now 2 pounds. That said the typical day-to-day variation is normally about 0.5 pounds. Scale weight is notoriously "noisy." The only way to know what is going on is to…

As I read this thread I see many different stories but the same frustrations. My own triple kick in the rear came in 2014. After years of "marginally high fasting BG" on my lab tests I hit the magic number and was told, "You're T2." In the same month my mother and a close friend both entered their final struggles with…

Very interesting. That last link especially led to a blog with a lot to read. So much so that I forgot about the chewing and swallowing part of my lunch for so long that the protein portion got cold.

It can depend on what your goals are. Results I've seen on my blood glucose meter (all are with meat and my wife's home-made pasta sauce). With regular pasta: BG>160. With whole wheat pasta, BG>140. With zucchini noodles: BG<100. All readings are 2 hour post. From other tests, I would expect the regular pasta caused a…

Did not know that. Should have. I may have become an ex-pendant.

Another T2 here. When you say your cholesterol is high, what do you actually mean? What are the numbers? From my lab review of about a year ago. While looking at my LDL number, "Your cholesterol is very good." Then my HDL, "Your cholesterol is perfect!" Then, "Your total cholesterol is higher than we like but that's…

Agree. As a T2, sweet potatoes are not a staple for me. If I leave that out and sub my typical 2 mugs of coffee with HWC and coconut oil, I should have sufficient calories for the morning.

I've modified to "eat until you are not hungry." We are conditioned by many generations of not always having enough easily available food to eat any excess that is available today as a reserve for needed calories tomorrow. Also I never eat directly from a container which contains more than I am planning to eat now.

70 year old T2 here. I am about 70% of the man I was in 2014 and controlling BG with diet only, no diabetes meds. My last 2 A1C labs were 5.0. My PA (female and 40 years my junior) admits my numbers are better than hers. The way I look at it, I don't have to limit carbs forever, just for the next 20 years or so.

I was going to discontinue any further testing of a pre-dinner beer but yesterday when I was at the grocery I passed their St. Pat's display. They had Smithwick's (which they normally don't carry) with a $5 rebate. Further justification: my son-in-law would enjoy it. Drank one (11.2 oz) during dinner prep. BG before…

Tonight's run was a little less controlled due to my wife's class at church and our daughter's problem getting a prescription filled. We decided that we would have a quick dinner followed by meeting our daughter at Planet Fitness. Dinner had been in the crock pot all day, pork roast with sauerkraut. The Italian red didn't…

I spent 2-3 hours reading on his site yesterday. He is geared toward weight loss and body building. I'm a 70 year old formerly fat T2 controlling BG with diet rather than diabetes meds so my needs are somewhat different than most of his clients but science is science. I always regard it as a good day when I learn something…

@Gallowmere1984 Thanks for the links to the Body Recomposition site, there is a lot of interesting stuff there. I did find this article which addresses the question from the OP from a slightly different perspective. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/nutrition/how-many-carbohydrates-do-you-need.html/

Ran another set tonight. 4:15 PM, Started dinner prep & a glass of red wine, BG: 84 5:00 PM, Finished wine, BG:87 6:30 PM, 1 hr post dinner, BG:114 7:30 PM, 2 hr post. BG 92 The wine was a 2014 Saracosa, a dry red deemed a "Super Tuscan." Dinner was my wife's creation: baked chicken, polenta, and creamed spinach. The…

Re: cookie duster. Tom Selleck and I have had facial hair for about the same amount of time. Currently I outdo him since I added a beard just over a year ago. However I look like a skinny Santa and he still looks like Magnum PI.

12 oz, I agree that 1 hour reading can be instructive. Friday dinners can be busy at our house. Last night we had 2 kids, their spouses and 5 grand kids here. 8:00 PM was about when the kids settled down to watch a movie and grandpa had about 5 minutes before falling asleep in his chair. I suppose it's a lot like Blue…

Very nice analysis. I'll add one more moving part complication. As your body mass decreases the amount of muscle needed to move that mass decreases. I formerly had to haul 225 pounds up a flight of stairs, now it's about 150. My knees thank me for it every day, my muscles seem to take the reduced workload without comment.

I ran a set of BG readings yesterday. 2:20 PM, 2 hour post lunch: BG 93. 5:05 PM, starting dinner prep and beer (Saranac Legacy IPA): BG 87. 5:50 PM, prep and beer finished: BG 134. 8:00 PM, post dinner: BG 94 6:45 AM: fasting BG 78. I realize that 134 is not a horrible reading but some damage happens at that level. I…

Interesting and thank you because I had missed the original thread. For me as a T2 BG control is the important factor. I abstained while I was losing weight but once I got to where I wanted to be (I'm about 70% of the man pictured in my avatar photo) I tried adding alcohol back particularly a pre-dinner drink. I was…

Thanks for the info. Any decision to supplement will be a decision made by grand daughter, her mother and her doctor. She is already at the point of balancing between things which help her pain and what her stomach will tolerate, Another option will be helpful.

Another thread here recommended this link tuitnutrition.com/2015/09/its-the-insulin-1.html Long but informative.
