Got my labs back today
Got the results on my latest labs today. My A1C was 5.1. That's up 0.1 from the last 2 labs but within the margin of error. Not bad for a 70 year old T2 not taking diabetes meds. Especially since a month ago I finished a 2 week :"Eat and Drink Your Way through Europe" tour. Think ordering low carb at McDonald's is hard,…

Bath salts
No, not the illegal drug kind. As one of my friends likes to say, "This getting old isn't for sissies." In my case I'm growing increasingly frustrated with not being able to remember stuff. Most recipes seem to stick to olive oil. My question: if one were to make a a toastless BLT would it make sense to slather it with mayo made from bacon…

My own July Experiment
My wife and I are spending most of a week in a cabin on an island in a lake in the Adirondacks, the huge State Forest in the middle of New York state along with our son, his wife, two grandsons, a granddaughter and granddaughter's friend. The cabin is about 40 feet from the lake vertically. Yesterday my Fitbit recorded 39…

Read this today in Scientific American
Sometimes I am amazed that I have been reading Scientific American for more than 55 years but postings like this keep me going back. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-almost-everything-dean-ornish-says-about-nutrition-is-wrong/

Morning chuckle
Let me set the scene. The TV weatherman was trying to reassure me that we would not set any more cold temperature records this week while I prepared breakfast for myself and my wife and tried to get on the outside of a large mug of coffee with coconut oil as rapidly as possible. In the pan were bacon, mushrooms, cream…
