In some parts of Nort Dakotah and the Lake Wobegon area of Minnesota it is still considered a staple at Lutheran Church dinners.

Or you could try upping your fats by a bit. The carbs you eat will have to be made into glucose and will require insulin to be metabolized. Fats are metabolized by a different process.

I'll echo everything Robert said. One good site for education is http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/ Don't be afraid to ask questions, all of us lean on others to help. One thing to note, the same dietary strategies which help you control blood sugar can often help in weight loss and weight loss can help in controlling…

With all these comments on headcheese I feel I must point out that lutefisk is an almost perfect protein supplement for anyone trying to fill out a macro. Pros: Before prep it will keep almost indefinitely without refrigeration. If you leave it in the company lunchroom fridge, it will be safe from theft. Cons: The…

That's a great link, FIT_Goat.

The unfortunate thing is, back in the day when I owned 50% of a manufacturing company, I spent most of my time worrying about things like making payroll and paying taxes instead of product design and engineering production lines which is what I was actually good at. No wonder we went broke. We get too soon old and too late…

As I read this ^ my wife has the makings for her peanut butter eggs set out. She will mix up the filling and form it into balls to chill overnight and then dip into melted chocolate and refrigerate again to harden. I haven't thought about them since last Easter and I'm reviewing the ingredients. Four packages of cream…

What the world really needs is a microwavable taco shell form which can be lined with bacon and nuked. Features would include a splatter guard and a collection trough for rendered grease which could be incorporated into the filling.

Good info stephenrhinton. I don't know what is in my local store but on-line they have several A1C test kits. One is a 2 sample kit for $22.88.

OK, there is one other route to get some info. Home glucose test meters are not very expensive. If you picked one up at Walmart or a drug store you could get some base line results both fasting and 2 hour post meals. You will probably find that a carb heavy meal will spike your glucose. Many people find that cutting carbs…

If it's a one time reading with a history of lower readings, the prudent course would seem to be repeating the test. Was an A1C test done? Instead of being a snapshot which can vary a lot, it gives a picture of what has happened over the past 90 days. If you have a reasonable relationship with your primary, you should be…

I'm not sure but I think I'll count this as a NSV. This morning as my wife was taking my donated clothes to her hospital's "emergency closet" I said I would do the same thing with warm weather clothes if it ever warms up. She said good she had seen some cute clothes in the men's sections this spring. Clothes are not really…

I don't do the same quantities or proportions but the rendered bacon fat incorporates easily into a bacon cheese mix.

^ I did the same thing today, got rid of a wardrobe of "fat" clothes. If it ever warms up, I plan to go through my shorts. One other thing this week. I belong to Knights Templar. this week we had our annual inspection and for the first time in several years I was able to wear my uniform. My granddaughter was impressed.

I generally buy Smucker's Natural. Somewhat surprisingly for a national brand it's not loaded up with "stuff" no sugar, no emulsifiers. That means I keep it in the fridge but I don't see that as a big inconvenience. I also flavor it with cinnamon but that's just me.

Mark's Daily Apple just did two reviews, one on nuts, the other on seeds. I found them of interest since I consume roughly 1/3 cup of various types of nuts and seeds when I have my medium carb breakfast about 3 times per week. (Other ingredients include Greek yogurt, cream cheese , coconut oil & blue berries; 16 g total…

Rather than being tempted by fake candies and chocolates which seem to increase sweet cravings in some people and contain sugar alcohols, why not try some of the "fat bomb" recipies Ditto Dan has posted?

There is a thread here http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10114343/vinegar-and-insulin-resistance/p1 with quite a few links to different studies.

My wife bought a jar of it to make hummus for the Super Bowl. It hasn't been opened since then until last week. I tried then along with some sesame oil to make shrimp stir fry. The recipe needs work, not ready for prime time. My jar says per ounce 5 g carbs with 4 being fiber.

I've read the same things but I've also read several studies testing the effect and none mention filtered vs unfiltered.

I realize following is not baking but I seldom have just one thing in the oven and it struck me while reading about Ruben sandwiches that maybe I could break Google looking for a Low-carb Ruben casserole. Nah, it's even a popular search. I found a couple which interested me.…

OK. I had not considered it from that perspective. The last time I could have been remotely considered underweight was November 1969 when I had just completed basic training, 8 weeks of no control over my diet or daily activity.

I have found no benefit in ever clicking the "Close This Entry" button. The only thing it provides is the total joke of a weight forecast.

I use ground flax a lot. A TBL in the egg/cheese mix when I make breakfast for myself & my wife. A TBL into the Greek yogurt/blue berry/nut mix when she doesn't have time before her first meeting. A TBL on my lunch salad. It's 2 carbs (both fiber), 2 fat & 2 protein with a good Omega 6/ Omega 3 profile. I'd use it in…

Summer sausage, beef jerky, nuts, packets of tuna or salmon, containers of shredded Parmesan. No refrigeration required.

I am an oil & vinegar guy. My standard lunch is my salad plus a leftover portion of last night's dinner protein. Lettuce is just a base to separate the plate from the meal. I have a standard plan of mini sweet peppers, olives, radish, cuke, grape tomatoes, a few rings of banana pepper which goes together in minutes. That…

This link was posted in another thread recently. ruled.me/keto-and-fast-food-on-the-go/ Unfortunately I read it just after I returned from my recent road trip. It refers to specific restaurant chains but I think the guidelines can be applied in a lot of places.

Dragonwolf, I've spent my life struggling with my tendency to give sarcastic answers to people asking serious questions. If there were a meter to measure social awkwardness I would peg the needle. Dilbert could teach me social skills. That said, I think you are asking a question that cannot be answered by anyone not living…
