  • I remember my morbidly obese aunt commenting that my sister looked too thin. "She should put some meat on those bones" she said to me and few others (not my sister). One week later my aunt died from a heart attack. My sister is older than my aunt was when she died, and is still very healthy.
  • Do you think some people look gaunt in the beggining, and then fill out later?
  • I have lost about 40 pounds with another 10-15 to go. My BMI is 26. I was just told by a friend that I should stop losing weight or I will start to look too thin. I said it was in my stomach and is hard to see. She goes, well can you just lose it in your stomach and not your face? LOL. At another time I was close to goal…
  • It was an example of sticking to the simplistic dogma where it didn't apply, and meaning well. The same diet not named DASH would have had longer legs. There are other examples, but that one stood out to me in my mind. Yes, most of the time the error isn't so blatant, actually, for the most part there is no "error" at all.…
  • Just so you know, if you search enough, you just might find an ice cream entry for one calorie in the MFP database! If not give me a minute....... :)
  • There is a groupthink here which discourages even hints of going against the simplified dogma. I get that most mean well, but there are negatives to this, as often it halts any nuanced discussions, and leaves people feeling they have to go elsewhere for info and some of the places might be worse. I get there is a balance.…
  • I took probiotics for a while. I didn't see any difference and I don't think they were worth the cost. There are questions on what products actually survive to do any good. Now I eat yogurt and drink kefir, a yogurt like product. Also, no matter what you take, you should incorporate prebiotic foods into your diet, they are…
  • I wasn't implying it was better or worse, and nothing you said disagrees with my post. My reply was to that quote. My post was factual and could be helpful or least of some interest to others with this question, and to many it won't matter, but I didn't imply it would. Given the quote I was replying to, and the context of…
  • I think by not eating before a workout, you trained your body to either store more carbs beforehand, or burn a higher percentage of fat as fuel during your workout. In some way our bodies adapt over time.
  • I have a yogurt and black coffee in the morning before I work out, and breakfast after. If I work out after work, I may have an apple if I feel hungry before. Sometimes I don't and don't eat anything.. Apple or not, I then have dinner after the workout.
  • A small thing I have done is stopped putting half and half in my coffee. At first, I missed the cream, but now I actually like the coffee black. I think it took me over a month though, so it is worth trying to stick it out even if your first thought is "no way".
  • You can try "Jack Daniel's Running Formula". It is a classic, and has training programs for any race distance. I used it and it really helped me run well. Anther one I just got, but haven't read yet is "Easy Interval Method" by Klas Lok. From what I understand, this method uses very light and shorter speed work on most…
  • On the torte, you have to be careful if you defrost in the microwave, it can get too soft. It is in whole pie form, so if I want one piece I cut it and only partially defrost in micro, then put in the fridge for an hour. Best to take it out in enough time and just put it in the fridge. Just a bit of caution for you. In the…
  • I get their Chicken Burrito Bowls. It has a good amount of protein and fiber. They use black beans which is my preference. Also Breaded Chicken Tenderloin Breasts. It microwaves in 2 minutes and is pretty good. It appears to be less processed than other breaded chickens. The Almond Butter is less expensive there than…
  • I bet it is the problems that this site is having, and not Garmin Connect. ( I manually add the exercise, and that has been having problems too.)
  • I am eating 2,000 a day and losing 2 pounds a week. This is working for me now, and I can feel my fitness level increase. It could be my estimates of calories or exercise is off. I do try to be accurate, I weigh everything and even discounted my calorie burn by 20% from the machines. I now have a Garmin watch and take my…
  • Even if I were to start at the 1,500 instead of the 12, the cardio allows me to eat more than I would normally be able to eat, so my point on this topic is still valid - for me. I did wonder about MFP setting me up for 12, as I told it I was male. I decided to see how it goes, and it is going fine. I do not feel any hunger…
  • A forced rest will bring you back stronger. Try to enjoy the time off, but I get how you are feeling.
  • I focus on cardio because it lets me burn the calories to be able to eat around 2,000 calories. I feel deprived at 1200 a day. I try to burn 800 a day by doing an hour of cardio. I also put in some weights 2-3 times a week and reduce my cardio a bit. I plan on adding more more weights as I get closer to goal weight, and…
  • Maybe try not logging it and see how it plays out?
  • Why not cereal, half a bowl of a full grain cereal with half a cup of even full fat milk? It wouldn't be many calories, would be healthy and take away the craving. You could plan for it and eat a bit less earlier on. I use 1% milk, but full fat would be more satisfying and not cost much in calories. I don't usually have…
  • Not sure if you are asking this, but it is saying that you took 8,154 steps, and that is the amount of calories burned? It should be accurate if you inputted your actual weight into the watch. I have a Garmin Vivo3 and I have found the calories counts to be accurate - much more than what the machines tell you. I add back…
  • OK, then in actuality you are eating it all back, I don't go by the calorie counter here. For running I use other calculators. For the gym elliptical I take 80% of what it says, it seems accurate for me. Doing this I lose the two pounds pretty accurately. If I didn't eat it all back I would lose more and I don't want to do…
  • I don't understand the thinking here. If you calculate the amount of calories you need to eat to lose the weight you want, aren't you supposed to eat back all the excercise calories? If you eat back half, aren't you being too aggressive?
