  • 1 gram per pound is fairly common and your body will flush out what it cant use anyway so not too many issues with going over as long as you dont struggle to hit the numbers...
  • Three things: 1: How well are you hydrated beforehand (and in general)? 2: How long of a run are you doing, you might see people only running a few miles 3: People use/store water at different rates. I dont need to drink a ton of water (none on a 5k for example) while my wife does, peoples biologies are different...
  • First century just completed on Sunday, 101mi at 16.3 mph average. Just typing this makes me tired...
  • Damn weather needs to cooperate... no rides yet this month but im hopeful for this weekend
  • I loved T25 and made it all the way through Gamma. It was a great quick at-home work-out fix. Alpha is on the easy side so if you are even a bit in shape it wont be super challenging (it is extremely cardio heavy) but Beta picks up the strength nicely and Gamma is intense. Speed 2.0 and 3.0 are still my favorites... You…

  • A bit terrified as my first ever century is in a week and a half...
  • Ive just started increasing my distance so at this point ill start feeling sore 25-30mi in or so. I honestly think I am just tense when i ride still but was wondering if I can do anything at the gym to strengthen the area short of just riding more (definitely doing that though). I have a century coming up at the end of…
  • One thing I would be careful is to not over-reach (and hurt your back potentially which is what I did the first time i did an ab wheel). I would do it facing a wall or something else at a good enough distance so that the wheel hits the wall about where you want to stop the downward motion, if its too easy just slide back a…
  • 5/4 - 18.5mi @15.2 avg 5/5 - 20.5mi @ 15.64 avg 5/7 - 17mi @ 16.37 avg Got a 35mi race on Sat and a Century in 1.5 months so need to keep working... Need to find some better places to bike around here...
  • Thanks for the advice folks! Am i better off trying to get close to my limit and judging whether or not I can complete the next rep or doing lower weight and just increasing the reps?
  • The only real difference (for me) between a treadmill and outside is you have to learn to pace yourself and a treadmill is miss-leading form that aspect. I naturally run faster outside because the treadmill isn't limiting me to one speed and i can adjust automatically based on the response i get from my body. I would…

  • Second opinion went much better! Second doc things the first one is wrong and while i do have a meniscus tear its tiny and not the source of my pain. His words were "your flexibility sucks and you hurt your IT band by not stretching enough and pushing too hard" so physical therapy starts tomorrow and no surgery! Running…
  • I appreciate all the feedback. I am definitely going to get a second opinion and have come to terms with the fact that i may have to put running behind me (I love to cycle so that's ok with me), just curious to hear other peoples experiences and compare to see if my doc is being overly conservative or not... I am also…
  • Your phone may be able to do it too, i know mine can track steps as long as I leave it in my pocket and then translate it to distance/cals with some additional input
  • A lot depends on how intense you are into it and how correct your movements are. I will say Speed 3.0 kicked my butt and i burned well over 300 cals doing it but some of the other ones much less. Keep in mind too Gamma is mainly about strength building so there are less cardio elements (aside from Speed 3.0) and therefore…
  • He basically said that if i keep running ill need a knee replacement in 10-15 years as it will only get worse and all they can do is try to minimize the damage and slow down the problem... Getting a second opinion though so we will see
  • So in the words of my doctor "your competitive running days need to be behind you". The tear is in an area that wont heal and i need some minor arthroscopic surgery to clean it up but basically no more running, jumping, anything that causes so much stress on my knee. Biking is ok so time to become a hardcore cyclist!
  • I think its more about the distance/time/weight then just the number of steps... When I was heavier walking burned a crazy amount of calories, now not so much. I would try something like runkeeper which lets you track distance vs time and gives you a fairly accurate calorie number (at least it has for me when compared to…
  • From what i am experiencing mine is a minor tear but i am meeting with an ortho tomorrow to get details and discuss treatment. I can bike with 0 pain right now and when i run I only have pain because my leg turns outward which is something i need to correct. Either way like i said meeting with the ortho tomorrow so will…
  • MRI results are back, tear in the meniscus so seeing an ortho on Friday. Started reading about it online and it matches my symptoms 100% so at least I now know exactly what the issue is... Anyone have any experience recovering from such an injury? Can they brace it so I can still run?
  • Calling the doctor tomorrow. The knee hurts a lot with any weight on it and at its worst when lifting my leg in a prone position, the weight of my calf/foot was causing serious pain in the knee. This was yesterday after my 10k. Today i woke up sore and at this point am almost completely fine but i know if I try to run it…
