This ^^^ The muscle ache is small tears, but unless you eat sufficiently well afterwards they won't "gain". They will repair, but may source the energy required for this process from other muscle tissue if there isn't sufficient resources.

OK, OP. It IS possible, but you're going to need to dedicate 3 hours a day to exercise, mostly cardio, and survive a strict calorie controlled diet - 1200 calories a day; no eating them back.

Does the machine have a 2.5kg switch? If so then try 37.5kg. If not, I would stick to 40kg and do as many as you can in your final set. You'll know you're improving when you can do one more than last time.
