I would agree. I had a layoff situation and to keep myself busy, and because I'm interested in this stuff I took a live 45 hour exam prep class over 15 weeks for the ACE Personal Trainer Certification exam. The ACE training emphasizes what you are saying about the basics. I would also agree, for most clients 2-3 months of…

Can't bring my blast straps? Anchor point for blast straps is pretty much the highest use of a Smith Machine IMO.

Some of them are just not very good. There was a trainer with what looked like a new lifter at my gym. I was using a few pieces of equipment in an area where there were training. The trainer had him doing at least 3 sets each of 4 different bicep isolation exercises.

If you read some of the posts, some posters say things that reward typical adult behaviors are not good, some are saying they are good. Each are stating their reasons. Isn't that debate?
-
What you're talking about in the bolded is most likely a Smith Machine. I may get some flack but most lifters don't like them for a number of exercises as the bar is forced by the guides to go in one path (which may not match the user's movement pattern). On the plus side they may be safer in some situations where someone…

As stated in my original post: Some app developer (or someone paying him/her) feels the need to "award" adult

My company started something probably 20 years ago where the employee and spouse had to fill out a health assessment to not be charged an extra premium on employee provided health insurance. You just had to fill out a form with a bunch of personal health, exercise and diet questions. Company said they were using the data…

Just keep it out of public view. No point in rewarding general society for doing the basics.

Second for the fanbike. More than you want to spend, but I got a Rogue Echo bike. Fantastic workout. I would as suggested look for a used Airdyne. The added arm motion helps add intensity/calorie burn without extra pressure on your knees. These type of bikes are used anywhere from the Crossfit games to training facilities…

If you die and leave little kids their guardians that will raise them for x numbet of years probably would disagree with you

You have a lot of issues going on. Could you get some time with s physical therapist to perhaps help with your movements? Sometimes because of the way insurance works a therapist is somewhat limited, i.e., has to work on rehabbing the shoulder as opposed to working on more global mivement patterns

In case you would happen to come back. The American College of Exercise specialized continuing ed class for trainers on older individuals suggests the trainer move the individual away from chair based exercises to more functional exercises when the individual is capable. BTW, the ACE certifications are one of the more…

From the article you referenced: The known diuretic effects of caffeine and alcohol, because of their action in inhibiting the release of arginine vasopressin (20, 21), would influence the response to ingested drinks that contain caffeine or alcohol. An acute dose of <250–300 mg caffeine is unlikely to have a measurable…

Welcome and best of luck. You want to be a great example for your kids and trying to keep up with them in the gym when they're in their 20's. You most likely won't but the threat you're close will spur them on. Take care of yourself first. Remember the flight attendant always tells you to put your own mask on in an…

Despite its vital importance, water is often the most undervalued dietary component. Water makes up a large portion of your body composition. Each day, you lose up to 3 quarts of water, making daily replenishment crucial. Water is involved in more bodily processes than any other nutrient. It is recommended that you drink…

I agree, that is why I said any resistance training is better than none. The poster asked why one form of resistance training makes the trainee more functional. Just trying to explain that with a real world example.
-
How often the real world do you sit in a chair and push a weight away from you with your legs as opposed to say moving a bag of fertilizer, groceries, furniture, picking up a child, etc using a squat/deadlift motion that is very similar to the exercise done with free weights or bodyweight resistance? Any resistance…

Yep, did this with a jr high track team I helped coach. Beauty of this is it works will all levels/ages. My 80+ year old mother in law did it (with aid of a bench to help support her) and a HS football team could do it for time.

The bolded is what IMO is the problem with all these reward things. People are starting to get conditioned that they have to have some reward for the basics.
-
Sincerely sorry for your depression issues. I still stand by my opinion that "rewards" for adult behavior in normally functional individuals is ridiculous.
-
Not at all. A poster earlier said, "I can point to a number of such people who have burned out but can’t afford to change professions." I was describing how to do it, they would have to change to a "smaller" lifestyle. You said exactly the same thing I did.
-
158.7723 calorie per hour. Honestly there is pretty much no practical way to tell unless you're using a powermeter as mentioned in the article linked or you have access to an exercise lab. You have factors such as elevation change, wind resistance, speed, gearing, your weight the bikes weight/rolling resistance on a…

Say an experienced engineer making $100k a year decides he/she is burnt out and would rather design floral arrangements instead (pays $25k). The engineer has a large house payment, couple cars, etc. This person can't afford to change jobs unless they start living much smaller.
-
I'f someone is in a starting level wage job there typically isn't anything barring them from leaving for a similar paying job in a different field. I was replying to a post that said people burn out and can't afford to change jobs. If you can't afford to change jobs you built too large of a lifestyle. Medical issues,…

This article suggests 50% of PF never go to to gym after signing up. Yes utilization is low. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/01/05/what-your-new-gym-doesnt-want-you-to-know/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.75013ea83665

Not at all. The descriptive word for the individual can still start with a b, just different following letters.
-
You could also say this is the individual's fault in creating too large of a lifestyle and being "forced" to keep a job they don't like.
-
Do you think your levels are low?
-
Eat a couple hundred more than your maintenance calories. Don't know what that would be, 2500+/- 10% would be my guess, given limited information, but determine on your own.

Again, sorry for your issues. The OP indicated his mom delivered a cake to him and he accepted. Doesn't sound like he has issues you have. He just sounds really disrespectful. If one of my sons talked about his mom that way for no apparent reason, he'd be out of the will.
