Im redoing W3, so today was W3D4 and for the first time I completed it so feeling very happy. Had @ftrobbie in my head telling me to slow down. So I slowed from my already slow pace to what felt more like a shuffle - literally the heel on my landing foot barely ahead of the toe on my other foot. However, it made a huge…

First day back today. The app commented Id not worked out in a week and recommended a deload, which I took. The workout felt good today, felt strong and not at all as flat as I did before.

I started at the end of March, with the minimum weights prescribed. Ive been sedentary for years and recently lost weight to end up at a good weight but woefully unfit. I had to move some furniture and struggled massively, a while back it would have been easy - so I figured time to do something about it. I chose this…

Thanks Sara. Im back on 5x5 tomorrow, hoping it feels a lot better than it did last week. I guess its all just part and parcel of getting of my a** for the first time ever.

@heybales Im certainly not running hard. Though it is of course relative! Im running very slow, and huffing and puffing like crazy because Ive never been a runner. Im getting lots of calories in, and the only leg work I do in the gym is squats. The issue is more a general fatigue. I was hoping from having the week off I…

5x5 Mon, Wed, Fri c25k Tue, Thu, Sat Always first thing in the morning so 24 hours between workouts. My calories are in surplus as well so I would hope energy isnt an issue. You are probably right, just working out 6 times a week catching up on me. Considering I didnt work out at all before this year its not a bad shout!

Thanks to the lifting my sleep has improved a huge amount in this time. It was very poor before I began. I have taken on c25k recently, been doing that on the off days from 5x5. Im currently at wk3d3. As to deficit, I have been in a surplus since beginning 5x5. Not a set amount, some days a few hundred calories, others a…

Hi there. I have recently started lifting, and have been following Stronglifts 5x5 since the end of March. For the last 7 weeks I have been to the gym 3x a week like clockwork, and increased my weights virtually everytime. Having started with the bar/minimum on each lift I am now at: OHP 42.5kg Deadlift 95 kg Squat 80 kg…

Who knew losing 200+lbs would turn you ginger!? ;) Awesome job - well done!

I think Ill see how W3D3 goes tomorrow. If its stronger than the first two days then Ill move forward. Its these sort of testimonies that keep me going with it! Well done! Ive never been an exerciser, ever. Never been truly fit. Even as a kid I never had stamina for running etc. I think there are still some fundamentals I…

Lets hope I find that same sweet spot! Im actually tempted to re do week 3, Im not comfortable enough with how Im going to step up. Thats cool though, as you say its a jog not a sprint, there is nothing to suggest I need to rush myself.

Cant hurt to try! Thanks! What helped your transition? Apart from a sunny disposition?! :) Im very focused on doing it, but I cant honestly say Im enjoying it. More its something I know I need to do. Who knows? Im hoping at some point things will click into place and suddenly Ill be running with a smile. You may well be…

Exactly that, if weight loss is your sole concern then the calorie defecit is all you need, no matter how it is achieved. When I was losing weight I didnt balance my macros or follow a particular diet or anything, just tried to stay within that limit. What I found was that naturally I came around to eating more whole…

I did try the belly breathing noted a few pages back, not very good at it but it seems to help. My jogging pace this morning was probably less than my walking. Having never been a runner I think its just stuff I need to work out. I may end up repeating weeks on the program just to be sure Im ok to move on. Its no big deal,…

Please dont take it that way. In my view people judge everything, everywhere, all the time. Walking down the street, you judge every person you see: Are they a threat? What is their mood? Do I know them? ... Its impossible not to make judgements about every thing you see. That is not to say its being "judgemental" though.…

Looks like an interesting theory, Ill read up on it later. Not sure why it would explain my lack of lung power, but it may well be valid. I know when Im walking I tend to breath quite shallow and although fast, its a comfortable pace for me. When jogging Im puffing like mad in no time, I cant seem to regulate my…

Ive slowed and slowed and slowed some more. Any slower and Ill be stopping! I think its a combination of breathing rhythm and a total lack of cardio/lung power. I can march a walk at 4mph+ EASILY. I can walk faster than anyone I know, and keep it up for hours. The second I go into a jog Im huffing and puffing and on a…

Whenever I see a heavy person in the gym, particularly running, I think they are awesome and feel shame that I couldnt keep up with them! Is that patronising? I hope not, its not intended that way at all. I admire that they are taking a healthy journey, and that they are fitter than I am. That they are twice my size and…

Looks to me like you lost a little from all over, rather than a lot from one area. Makes it much harder to spot, especially when you see yourself every day. I think there is a huge difference, and I think yuo look great - keep going!
-
Well done! I start W3 tomorrow, and having struggled with the 90sec runs of week 2 - how did you find the step up to 3 min runs?
-
I have to fight my youngest for the rind off of everyone elses pork chops when we have them for dinner. Im totally with you on that one! Any meat Im like it, love the fat, but pork chop is the best. It doesnt even bother me, how can something so nice be a bad thing!?

EDIT - double post
-
Im pretty sure Ive gotten taller - by virtue of actually having some core sterngth now and so better posture.
-
Ive ended up on the same days but different order. D1 is Thursday. This way my first run of the (calendar) week is the last on my c25k week and so an easier way to get going!

Weight loss has magically changed me, significantly. As a person, and I am much happier and more positive than I ever was. Through my weight loss process I learned that I have huge amounts of discipline, which I didnt realise was there. I now know I can achieve things I put my mind to. This has had such a liberating effect…

When I started 5x5 I stopped worrying about the scale weight. I knew I would gain muscle (eventually!) and be heavier for a leaner look. I knew in the process I would put on some fat. I knew water retention would be an issue. Seemed to me, with that in mind, the scale would become pretty meaningless. I have since put on…

Most recently saw a link for them on the NHS website, via google. Havent got them myself, finding the app is sufficient.

W2D1 - not quite as bad as I expected it to be
-
w2d1 done this morning, nothing like as bad as I expected. Made an effort to run real slow and made it through. Now dreading the 3min runs on w3!
