How long did you wait between sets? I found I failed a set a while ago because I just didnt allow enough time to rest. Ive since waited 90seconds+ (was previously 60) and not missed any reps. Also, Ive been doing it for just over a month and am now only at 42.5kgs. I started at 30kg and its taken 7 workouts to get to here.…

I did squats in there a few weeks back and thought it was awful! Now you mention it I did see someone in there doing low movement lifts. Had the weight on his shoulders and was going up on tip toe and back. I guess it may have its uses?

I was thinking this earlier. My gym has one Smith machine and 1 squat rack - and Ive only ever seen people use the Smith if the squat rack is taken. Then it occured to me, I dont actually know what the Smith Machine is for! Is there a particular type of exercise its meant for?

Ignorance was bliss. Prior to weight loss exercise never occurred to me, what I ate didnt concern me (as long as I liked it!) and I had no goals/ideals I was aiming for. Now I live in "reality", where I can see the failings in my lifestyle. Can see Im not where I want to be fitness wise. Can see when Im eating what I…

I know! I saw that after I posted it - and its been bugging me too!

Wasnt Waynes World "Psycho hose beast"? Its been years since I saw that so sand to be corrected!

Nice to know I wont get past it then! ;) Thanks Sara. That was my initial thinking, its just the more you read the more you begin to question things...

Agreed, its about finding what works for you. Personally I dont weigh anything (aside from breakfast cereal). And I never will. The whole idea of it depresses me and I know it would take my calorie counting out of the "its just something I do" box and put it into the "its a massive chore I HAVE to do" box. That said, I…

Oh Im with you there - its just knowing how long (and seriously) some of you have been doing it I imagine there is a smirk with "He thinks thats heavy!" Honestly I know its all about me, and Im really comfortable with that. Its just sometimes I can get consious of the fact Im a noob. Like when I was benchnig 27kg next to…

Thanks guys. Im certainly not looking for any quick fixes, it just occurred to me if this was a one time situation it may be something to take advantage of. I havent really decided where I want to end up right now. I know Im not keen on bulking up in a big way, but do like the idea of looking lean and strong. And actually…
-
Anyone? Were you to have your time starting again - how would you manage your calories? Go into a mini-bulk situation to make the most of the noob gains? Or just work around maintenance?
-
Ive been looking for somewhere to ask this, and think this thread may be appropriate. Ive recently started Stronglifts, and am now considering where I should be with my calories. I lost 2 stone over last year, and have been in maintenance since January - which seems to be around 2000 calories a day. Prior this I have done…

And no sooner do I post this I find somewhere more appropriate! Moved to the Q&A thread...

I should say - I have absolutely no idea as to the how/why - just an observed side effect from the change in pills!
-
I found a tip today - give yourself enough rest between sets. Failed on my 4th set of Rows today, purely because I didnt allow enough recovery. Waiting 3 minutes and nailed the 5th. It wasnt a strength issue at all, it was a patience issue!

I find if I think about that I just lose all stamina and give up. If I can focus my mind anywhere else I find I can keep going much better. So in the end I either zone out completely (meditation?) or people watch. Im terrible for people watching.

The thing that leaps out to me? Why dont you get on board with his new habits? His current enthusiasm likely wont last forever, for now it can pick you up and get you going - and then when it wanes he will have you to help keep the healthy lifestyle going. Do it together, you both might stand a better chance of success…

I started about a month ago, and feel I am only just getting going with it. It is tempting to skip ahead, but I have resisted. I feel only now am I beginning to deal with more weight, although its obviously nothing compared to what others lift. I accidentally squatted 10kg more than I should have the other day, only 5 reps…

Sorry!

Im pretty sure thats what my wife thinks while Im working out :D
-
My wife has recently changed contraceptive pill and found similar side effects - have you changed any medication recently?

Amazing! Well done!

Once you are in the water you will look like everyone else - a floating head! Dont let it stop you getting in there!

The problem is there are very few rules that apply to all. With exercise it is very much "...whatever works for you". The one "Universal" is Calories in vs Calories out. Eat less than you burn and you WILL lose weight. Cardio burns a lot of calories and so will help with that defecit. Some feel HIIT burns more/is a more…

Thats amazing - well done!

I was reading a text book my daughter got from school the other day. Apparently humans have the same number of hairs as chimpanzees, they are just finer and less noticable. I am actually as hairy as a monkey! Who knew!?
-
Already in on the clippers! Cut my hair once a week, keep it tidy - cost me £20 for the clippers a few years ago. Used to cost £12 a time! Im with you on the at home gym, and will ceertainly keep it as an option.
-
again, something Ive got in the back of my mind. We have no space for that at all at the moment, but if we look to move Ill be wanting a garage or something I can use to set up at home! Assuming my current enthusiasm keeps going!

Im glad someone picked that up!
