Well, I finished my March out with an "easy" 5K to test out the new shoes. So far so good! No hot spots, no blisters, and no additional toenails looking like they're going to fall off. Win, win, and win! My only complaint at this point is that my feet felt unusually warm running. My "easy" 5K turned out to being a bit of a…

I hear you. I went back to the room, had a quick shower looked at my mangled feet from my stupid shoes, bandaged my massive blister, then headed to the resort pool for half a Mickey waffle from the pool bar thing followed by an hour-long soak in the hot tub with over a dozen other half finishers. In theory, it was a great…

I'm going with a very moderate goal of 45 miles in April. I have four races coming up over the next five weeks that will already account for over 16 of those miles, but there will be lots of short runs and recovery time between races. I still haven't quite figured out this whole goal-setting thing, yet, either. Maybe I…

I would try a different lacing pattern before getting new shoes if you're not up to spending the money right now. Google something like "lacing pattern toe problems." I would like to mention, though, when you do get new shoes, I strongly suggest going to a running store and getting fitted for your next pair if you have yet…

It is an intersting concept. I did some research on them last night when I got home (at 11pm) after having a pretty extensive discussion with the girl at the running store about them. I am so on the fence. They were super comfortable and super light, and walking/jogging/bouncing up and down in them felt different than…

So awesome! I heard it's in the morning this year, and I was actually talking to a girl at the running store yesterday and she told me that was a deal breaker for her because the party is on Sunday night? I really don't know anything about Wine and Dine, but I'm sure it'll be a blast! Good luck, and have fun!!

Hello, all. I have some questions for you about shoes, well, a specific type of shoe, really. I was able to stop into Philadelphia Runner on my way to dinner last night, and I picked up a new pair of Mizunos. I've actually never run in Mizunos before. Saucony and Brooks have been my running shoes of choice as of late, but…

I say it is absolutely possible to mix your two passions together, if you ever wanted to try such a thing. Check out Eruption Athletics! The two guys who started this company, Chris and Joe, are friends of mine...well, they are good friends with my boyfriend since high school (they all rowed together, though Joe and Chris…

This and this. I did exactly what @MobyCarp describes other than the "Mr. Testosterone" thing...my urging was always just from my drive to always outdo myself. I wasn't really following a training plan when I first started running. I looked up a bunch of them, used them as a guide, figured I could figure it out…

Is something like this what you might be looking for? The Only Ice Cream Recipe You’ll Ever Need It looks to me like HoneyMee is just a flavor-less ice cream base topped with their toppings. The link is to a recipe for a typical ice-cream base, and I would think any standard ice cream base would probably suffice for what…

In reading all of this, I was thinking this exact same thing, pretty much word-for-word.

haha I do! Who would have thought? I've learned so much from this group! In all seriousness, though, I'm glad I found this little challenge message board. I have learned a ton about running, and even a little about myself, just in the past few months. I would imagine at least some of this are things I would have…

OMG That is absolutely hilarious! Man, I need to find some better trails to run on. I feel like I'm lacking in wildlife encounters, these days. There's not much other than few birds and a squirrel or two here or there on my usual loop that goes through the local cemetery. I do, however, look for zombies during every run.…

One thing I learned while living is Australia is to not trust any of the fauna, as most of it is dangerous/poisonous. I was attacked by a magpie over there. Thankfully, it never actually made contact with my head, but it sure was attempting to do some damage as I flailed my arms and ran through a field like a nutcase. I…

This made me laugh out loud! Spider webs, nor the spiders that create them, have never really bothered me, unless I have one of either stuck on my face and it tickles. I was only scared twice by spiders, and both happened to take place in Australia. The first time was when I was in the country for just a few days and…

I had to run on the treadmill, yesterday, or else I would have risked being blown away. The wind was so strong that it literally took my breath away just walking from my mailbox to my house. This was after I had to chase the mail that was ripped from my hand into my neighbor's yard and stomp on it to retrieve it. At least…

My hat problem isn't necessarily always about circumference. Women's hats can fit that way, but my problem is also about the distance between the top of my head and my ears. In many instances, when I wear hats properly, they sit on the top of my hears and rub/hurt after a few miles. Oh, well. I've survived this long! haha

That sounds quite tasty! I wish I could remember what the owner of Stoudts told my boyfriend and I about light beer, but he had a very logical-sounding explanation about every beer being a light beer because calories cannot be properly counted in beer...or something to that affect. He seemed like a pretty smart man with…

My favorite session IPA of the moment is Founder's All Day IPA. I like how it has some malt tones and it's a little mild as far as IPAs go - I'm not a fan of super-hoppy beers. I can drink more than enough of this stuff at once to get myself into trouble.

Perfect descriptions! My favorite "light" beer has to be Yuengling Light Lager. Now, I might be a little biased because I grew up near the original location, and "lager" is everyone's go-to beer around here. However, the Light Lager seems to be the only light beer I've ever had that actually tasted like something. Mind…

Yes! This. There are new craft breweries popping up every day, it seems! So many "better" choices. May I suggest a Ballast Point Sculpin? As for the beer in place of food, I can't say I've never done it, myself. I typically try to limit calories during the day in anticipation of this (which definitely holds true for my…

Fantastic idea!

Good for you. Congrats on kicking the habit!

I have one baseball cap that fits my head. It's a child's size! That would be about the time I would rip it off and carry it for the rest of the run. haha

So long as you feel okay, and you are properly hydrated, I say, if it's working, keep doing what you're doing. I have to drink at least 12-16 oz of water before my morning coffee just to keep myself properly hydrated. I don't log my water intake, but I know when I haven't had enough to drink. Personally, if I don't drink…

This made me lol.

That is so awesome, and good for you! Running is certainly addictive! I would love to be able to run to work. Technically, it is attainable, but I would be a complete disaster by the time I got here. I live about 9.5 miles, door-to-door. After a few blocks from my house, it is a straight shot on one route to get to the…

I have no advice, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone, and I can completely relate. I, too, am super heavy sweater, and I also have quite a small head. haha I don't do hats, because I can never find any that fit my head - they're always floppy, push my ears down, really annoy me, and look ridiculous! I…

The rest of the beet conversation seriously made me laugh out loud. Also, thank you, @Elise4270 for sharing the MooseJaw giraffe. Both things just made my morning! This is precisely the reason why I do not run two days in a row. When my PT told me about it, I realized he may have been on to something (and I was sick of…

I'm not going to completely rule out my March goal, but I'm currently thinking it might not happen. At least I seem to be out of my "I can't run four miles without feeling like i'm going to die" funk. Had I not been restricted on time, I would have run further yesterday. That being said, I ran my fastest 4-5 mile pace in a…
