I expect to eat a lot (and log it). Hitting my calorie target this week should not be too hard. I ran 30 miles today
-
So OP cites questionable research, has a blank profile with no weight loss (30 pound to go). Can I hire him to be my trainer?
-
Just estimate the calories and have fun! If you are really worried about it, just eat before/after and fast while there. Water has zero calories.

Strength progress will always be much harder on a deficit. I think strength training while cutting weight is great for preserving muscle however. You can: 1. Reduce your deficit 2. Follow the 5x5 program and reduce weights when you stall. Focus on learning proper form.

Instead of focusing on what you eat, focus on how much. I see from your profile you are recently married and have 92 pounds to lose. Is it fair to your family to choose to have a shorter life expectancy because of your weight? Of course not! If you won't count calories for yourself then do it for them. Its okay if you…

I think it is just hard for many obese people to imagine themselves with a low BMI. Therefore they have a hard time setting a goal weight lower than they can picture themselves. To me a BMI of 25 would be huge and would certainly negatively impact my running performance. For certain football players, a BMI of 25 might be…

You cant spot reduce fat. We all have abs muscles. If you cant see them you have too much fat. You should focus on losing weight. Strength training is great, but focus on your entire body not just your abs.

+1 I prefer this single item over every other one on your list!

Thanks for the great advice everyone! Right now I am experimenting with New Rules vs Strong Lifts. I will probably modify one of those programs and lift 2-3 days per week max. I am reducing my running pace slightly on the days after I lift. Would you suggest I do yoga on the days I lift or the day after? I run on average…

+1.

lol Mr_Knight was clearly joking about "sabotage". Its called sarcasm

Thanks. I don't expect linear results. I just know that if I consume calories at a TDEE deficit of about 250 I will lose about .5 pounds a week (on average) over time. I am in no rush as my current weight is already healthy. My weight fluctuates quite a bit from day to day and I am not bothered in the least. Like I said my…

I think you confuse "condescending" with an honest opinion about how I feel personally with no judgement against those who disagree. I never said I was perfect.

My age is not relevant here. Don't insult my intelligence. I will complete college before I turn 21 and expect to enroll in one of the top med schools in the country. I know how to count. I expect my spouse will be able to count as well. If/when his metabolism slows down he will increase his exercise and/or reduce his…

+1 When people talk about gaining weight because of becoming "comfortable" in a prior relationship I see it as a big warning sign. People should want to be fit for themselves not to impress a potential mate. Self motivation is essential. I will exercise until the day I die, not to lose weight or impress anyone but because…

I have never been married or dated an overweight person so I can't comment on that. To my fellow single MFP members I would like to say the best solution to the above problems is prevention! Not only seek out partners who are aerobically fit, but be sure they have the requisite plan and motivation to remain so for a…

Great work everyone. I was behind pace for a while but am basically caught up now. Glad to see you all doing so well! I recently started taking lifting more seriously and am still looking for the best way to integrate it into my running schedule without hampering my recovery times. So far my main adjustment has been to…

Congratulations on your weight loss. I disagree that 15 degrees is too cold to walk/run outside (just dress warm). If you insist on staying inside I see many great ideas above.

Eat as much as you want! Just make up for it on other days.

128 pounds

+1 I love minimalist shoes too. Give yourself time. Your body needs to adjust to running with that type of shoe. In time muscle imbalances can be eliminated along with the pain. Strength train as well.

I see 60+ year old's in the gym all the time lifting heavy weights. They also run marathons etc. Don't let age be a reason to slow you down. Just make sure you give yourself enough recovery time (more needed with age) between difficult workouts.

Don't get me wrong, she is not my role model for fitness (I am 5'7 and 127 pounds, run 300 miles a month, do yoga, lift weights and hit my macros) but I disagree on your premise. I think one can be credible and give good advice even if they choose not to follow it themselves. Your nanny state comment could have some…

I have been to Toronto and while it is more fit than almost all US cities, it is certainly not at thin as you make it sound. Try traveling to Asia or Africa where in many places the average BMI is 20 or 21

It is much harder to gain muscle. For me its mainly about muscle preservation while I lose a few pounds. As a runner I don't need a ton of muscle because I prefer to keep my weight as low as possible for my races (while still at a healthy BMI). I lift to preserve muscle and reduce injury risk when I run.

+1 People love to blame something other than themselves for their obesity
-
I tend to agree with this. One of the most obese people I know is a doctor and I think she is a very good doctor. If people choose not to seek marriage counseling (for example) from someone who has been divorced 5 times that is their choice. Regulation should not prevent that counselor from offering their services to the…

So you basically feel like she needs to be a role model and improve her own health if she is going to be credible with her plan of improving the health of Belgium citizens?
