  • Listening to any human being eat a bowl of cereal.
  • I'm a big fan of Strava. I use it for running and cycling metrics, but I also enter other forms of crosstraining into my profile. I like being able to look back on my complete training calendar. Also, you can enter your Strava info. on this site, and it will compile a whole bunch of statistics based off your cumulative…

  • While very pregnant and driving alone on a long road trip with a napping toddler, I had to choose between letting my little one sleep or making a stop so I could pee. I pulled a diaper out of the diaper bag, shoved it in my pants, and let 'er rip. Unfortunately, that diaper wasn't intended to hold a pregnant lady's volume…
  • Anything creamy or thick...Kahlua and the like. Ew. I can sort of tolerate gin, but not without thinking, "I'm drinking a Christmas tree," the entire time (and then eventually verbalizing this wisdom and finding myself hilarious). Had a bad date with tequila in high school but am starting to consider giving it another…
  • Brand new socks. Kneading bread dough by hand. When the sunbeams break through the clouds and form pretty shafts of light. Hot cup of coffee and listening to the birds before anyone else is awake in the house.
  • Tank and undies, unless my oldest son is away at a sleepover. In that case, naked.
  • I did my first (and so far, only) sprint tri last fall. A week before the actual race, I did the entire course just to get an idea what to expect for timing. Then I spent the week before the race focusing on practicing my transitions, with a few easy workouts thrown in. You're not likely to make significant speed gains at…
  • ^^^ Thanks for the links, Scott!
  • The truth? Once I've ruined a day, I just eat like a slob for the rest of the day. Easter was a disaster, but a pound gained can be lost, and holidays are for celebrating with family, food, and (in my case) a cocktail or 3.
  • There has been some research indicating fish oil supplementation as potentially beneficial for fat reduction. If nothing else, it's good for your heart. http://www.jissn.com/content/7/1/31
  • I was feeling the same way this morning (seriously, I ate wayyyy too much candy over the weekend!), so I threw out the remaining lemon bars that kept calling to me and put the communal candy bowl in the cupboard. So far, so good. I find it's easier to get back on track if I spend a day drinking only water and coffee until…
  • It might sound silly, but ever since I gave myself mental "permission" to walk a handful of steps as needed during a race, I've set PRs for 5K, 10K, and 10 mile distances. I inevitably go out too fast, raise my heart rate too high, and need to take a tiny breather after the first couple miles. I find my finish times are…
  • I used the cadence sensor for the first time yesterday on the trainer. I intentionally kept it in easier gears than I would typically use and still only averaged 62 rpm. Looks like I have another item to add to my *kitten*-to-work-on list this year!
  • This. Pretty much exactly, although I also have a smaller 9 oz. Nathan bottle that I'll take along on 5-10 mile runs. I also have the Nathan speed hydration belt, but I find it more cumbersome than just carrying a bottle. The larger size Nathan bottle has a pocket that easily fits my iPhone 5, ID, key, Chapstick, and…
  • I take 2 rest days per month, but like the previous poster, I also plan one "easy" day per week. I aim for about 45-60 minutes of activity per day.
  • I've had 4 babies and developed DR after the first. I have noticed marked improvement (from 3 fingers' width to less than 1) since I started running and lifting heavy about a year ago. I can now do typical ab exercises without any discernible bulging. Unless you are experiencing complications or discomfort as a direct…
  • My husband bought a cadence sensor, but I haven't tried it out yet. How does one go about determining run cadence without a foot pod or gadget? I have an idea of how many beats/minute I prefer my running music to be, so maybe it's close to my cadence? (And, ShawnTX, sorry to hear about your loss.)
  • I have yet to experience a decent race photo. My face turns a startling shade of red, I look hideous when I mouth breathe, and I am guilty of the floppy wrist thing as well. My typical hairstyle includes side swept bangs to cover some of my huge forehead, but in a race I usually pin it back or wear a headband. So, ugly…
  • Last year I used a sprint training plan I found on the Iron Girl website and, like you, adapted it for my own schedule. I intend to do the same this summer, as it worked fine for me last year. Simpler is better for me.
  • I refuse to wear underwear when I run because they drive me nuts. I go commando under my running tights and crops, and I buy shorts with the built in briefs. If you think about it, underwear really don't serve much purpose while running anyhow.
  • Another vote for Strava. I used the app on my iPhone before switching to a Garmin. If statistics are your thing, you can compile your Strava data using this site: http://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/annualSummary.php
  • Is a cadence sensor a necessity? I only have a speed sensor right now, and I've been using that data for simple interval workouts. Well, technically, my husband has the sensor, but whatever. What's his is mine. Should I convince him he also needs the cadence sensor?
  • Is it possible for you to do any running outdoors? Treadmills can be hard on even the most seasoned runners. If your knees are literally sore to the touch, perhaps consider taking a couple extra days off before starting on your next C25K workout. I've only been running for a year, but in my limited experience running…
  • Nope. But I probably would if the opportunity presented itself. Ever spent a night in jail?
  • Yes. We hang out here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/88-triathletes-duathletes
  • I wake up every single morning at 4:15 a.m. because the dog and I both have to pee. Although we have a master bathroom literally 10 feet away from the bed, I intentionally walk through the kitchen so I can grab a snack to eat while I sit on the toilet. By "snack" I mean cookies (never just one, but enough for me to munch…
  • (nevermind...answered my own question)
  • I finally used my husband's speed sensor for the first time last week. Um, let's just say I have some serious work to do! That was quite an eye opener. I think Trainer Road might be out of my budget, but I'll check out The Sufferfest. Thanks everyone!
