We own the Kurt Kinetic rock and roll fluid trainer and love it. It's quiet and doesn't require any tension adjustments while riding. Although my husband bought an older model and got a deal, it was still a little pricey. I've seen a few magnetic trainers on the Amazon lightning deals, so maybe keep an eye on those this…

Trail shoes and/or YakTrax should do the trick depending on conditions.

I use the recipe builder function on MFP. It can be time consuming, but it's possible to import recipes found online. I don't factor in seasonings or ingredients with negligible calorie contents (like baking soda or chopped celery). I'm not always sure how many actual servings I'll end up making, so I typically weigh the…

I've done 2 trail races on fairly well-groomed trails (state parks), and I agree with everything posted by jacksonpt above. If you can run the race course a couple times, that would give you a big advantage and a better idea what to expect. I always pass on the left and verbally announce it if the person in front of me…

I'm still playing around with my own lifting/running schedule, but right now it looks something like this: S: Stronglifts, usually with 1-2 mile warm-up run M: Easy run (currently 4-5 miles) T: Body Pump class, for muscular endurance W: Speed/tempo run (also 4-5 miles) R: Stronglifts, with 1-2 mile run F: Rest (or swim,…

Lol. No, I sniffed it and could detect a trace of chocolate deliciousness. With 4 kids, I've learned to NEVER do taste tests on anything unidentifiable!

Thick layers of Cheez-Whiz on 3-4 slices of white toast. My husband used to call me crazy when I'd make that for breakfast. In retrospect, perhaps he was right. Also, copious amounts of ice cream--like 8 large scoops at a time. Every night. I'd snuggle my then-newborn baby, watch TLC or Food Network, and just gorge on ice…

Good advice above. Also, I find it helps both physically and mentally if I allow myself "X" number of steps of walking as needed. I invariably start races at a pace that I can't maintain, and sometimes the exertion becomes such that I become almost nauseated. When this happens, I give myself permission to veer off to the…

Good to know! Is yours completely flat when it's not inclined?
-
^^^ I was actually thinking the same thing. Are you measuring your waist at the narrowest part, typically an inch or two above your belly button? I'm fairly thick-waisted, and mine measured 31.5" at 142 lbs.

I, too, have an el cheapo Weslo Cadence, although mine is the G40 model. I've been trying to find an accurate way to determine the incline, as the "flat" adjustment is not quite flat. I downloaded a free app to determine the degree of the angle, and based on that (and some fancy math calculations I found with the help of…

Count me in! I got as low as 122 earlier this year (down from a high of 148 on New Year's Day), but I slowly crept back up to 133 over the summer. It seems like my body's set point has always been 130, but I'd love to get down to 120, if only to see what I'd look/feel like. My waist is currently about 27" but I'd like to…

When eating a sandwich--particularly a sub--I never eat the last bite. No idea why, but that last bite grosses me out.

The peas contain more calories/carbs than many other green veggies and aren't nutrient dense. I'd suggest swapping those out with something more nutritionally balanced. Peas and corn are mostly just empty carbs. Broccoli would be good, or any sort of colorful veggie blend.

Since you're on a budget, you could get a lightweight jacket to use as an outer layer to block the wind and protect you from precipitation. Not to keep plugging Walmart, but they currently have their windbreakers on clearance. I have 2 of them and have been pleasantly surprised by their ability to keep me warm when layered…

A couple weeks ago I overdressed for my long run and ended up stripping down to a tank and capris in 25 degree weather. I got some very funny looks when I ran past the neighbor's bonfire party!

I just returned from a 5 mile run in 27 degree weather ("feels like" temp of 5 degrees) with 25-30 mph winds and a few inches of snow on the ground. I wore a long sleeve performance tee and pair of tights from Walmart (paid less than $20 for both items and the quality is on par with Old Navy and other less expensive…

Yep. I eat lightly throughout the day and save a bunch of calories for my evening snacks. I enjoy the peace of eating things I love after the kids have gone to bed and the house is quiet. Also, I used to be a smoker, and my munchies coincide with my previous smoking times.

Oh, pick me! Pick me! I did about 10 weeks of Stronglifts last spring and loved the results and the solitude in the weight room. I took the summer off to train for my first triathlon, but I just restarted the Stronglifts program this week. I plan to do it twice/week along with Body Pump once/week because I appreciate the…

Alas, no speed/cadence sensor. But I DO have a birthday coming up next month...and Christmas....
-
Thanks for sharing your schedules! It helps a lot to see how others lay out the week. I took the summer off of lifting while training for my first tri, but I missed it and will be adding it back into my routine through the winter months. I live in an area with 6" of snow on the ground already, so that also impacts my…

So glad to have discovered this group! I'm a 34-year-old mom of 4, and up until this year had never done anything remotely athletic in my life. I smoked for years and never had to worry about my weight....until I quit smoking and took up ice cream instead. Anyhow, I completed the C25K program in March, ran my first 5K race…

Have you considered a tri with a pool swim? I'm terrified of open water (determined to overcome that fear in 2015!) but still completed my first sprint tri in September by doing a tri with a pool swim. I was brand new to the sport and had literally ran my first ever mile in February and purchased my road bike in July. I…

Yes, absolutely this as well.

Are you setting your treadmill to an incline at all? If 5.7 mph is a comfortable speed for you, I'd suggest adding incline (at least 1-2%) to your running workouts. If weight loss and calorie burn are your goal, you'll have to increase the intensity of your runs by running longer distances, increasing incline, and/or…

Absolutely! Salt isn't generally responsible for gastrointestinal bloating (that's caused by gas), but it makes your body retain water. Your WHOLE body. Drink lots of water today, and you'll be back to normal by tomorrow.

I have the Sportline Elite Cardio 660 (Walmart, $58). I've owned it for a year and have been pleased with it.

Maybe TMI, but have your bowel habits changed? Had your weight loss progressed in a linear fashion prior to this week? Or was last week a larger loss than usual? Could you have been dehydrated last week? If absolutely nothing has changed as far as diet, medications, exercise, it may be worthwhile to make a call to your…

Honestly, those cranberries may have a laxative effect and leave you weighing a little less tomorrow.

Sounds yummy! My favorite treat is Dannon Strawberry Cheesecake 80-calorie yogurt with fresh, chopped strawberries and a little lite whipped cream on top.
