Unless you are the 0.01% of the female population that has extremely high levels of testosterone floating around in your bloodstream, don't worry about getting bulky from strength training. The most fit and fabulous female bodies are built through strength training.

Lifting belts are not a good idea, unless your goal is to weaken your back muscles. If you can't do squats with proper form, lower the weight. It's just a matter of time before you get stronger and can properly do progressively higher weights - and your supporting muscles will develop to enable that to happen. Belts impede…

I'd avoid protein bars, by the way. They're generally glorified candy bars and most of them contain soy protein which is inferior to whey, casein, egg and meat.

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are super-high in protein and low in other calories. Costco Kirkland Greek Yogurt (0% fat) is made of casein - loaded with protein shouldn't be hard to get to your totals, and adding whey protein (no more than 1-2 servings a day) is helpful too. I prefer whey first thing in the morning,…

Great work. Keep it up. Remember - "inch by inch, it's a cinch, yard-by-yard, it's hard!" Gradual, consistent progress is your friend and you're on the right track!

Easy fix. Do all sets at "max" weight, eg: failure on last rep of each set. Monday: 10 sets of 5 squats Tuesday: 10 sets of 5 barbell rows Wednesday: 10 sets of 5 bench press Thursday: 10 sets of 5 deadlifts Friday: 10 sets of 5 shoulder press Eat 2 lbs of raw beef and 12 raw eggs every morning. Have a 1/2 cup of olive oil…

This. Heavy weight, if you're wondering what that means, is a weight where you can't do more than 6 reps with PERFECT form. Don't buy into the urban legend you'll get bulky. Nothing could be further from the truth, women don't have enough natural testosterone to pack on muscle. As far as rest goes, for my "heavy" days and…

Sure there is. Mostly water, probably. If you completely changed your diet, it's possible. Last year I went on "The Plan" for 5 months. Lost 10 lbs the first 4 days.

I saw "vaping" and thought we were talking about something else, not tobacco. Whoops.

Wow. good work!

This. 90% diet. Exercise just makes everything better. Kind of like taking a rough diamond and polishing it.

AMEN. Like the OP, I wanted to get going in the AM but for the longest time couldn't bring myself to do it...but then after a long work day, the thought of going to an overcrowded gym didn't appeal to me. The only thing you can do is DO IT. After the first day, it gets easier. I now wake at 4:55 AM, have a large black…

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS, as it's known in the body building world) is quite common, but there are things you can do to mitigate it: 1) post workout stretching 2) caffeine - I read an article (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24164961) and thought I would give it a try. Now I have a huge cup of black coffee 30…

I'm not sure big trucks and an impressive vocabulary correlate, other than (possibly) inversely? Most (not all) of the guys I know with big trucks are rather dim-witted unless they own a construction company, in which case they tend to employ dim-witted people with big trucks.

Use isolate, not concentrate and you'll get better results.

If I was like some of the people here I would say "Where's your evidence?" but, because I have a brain and I see the logic in your argument, I'll instead say "I've never thought of that, that makes sense - assuming that the processing doesn't hurt the nutritional value."

Wow. Overreact, much?

What conspiracy? I asked a question. Who funded the study? Are you denying that lobbyist groups fund studies to support the claims of the people they are lobbying for? It's been documented numerous times over the years - tobacco industry, insecticides, chemicals. Pardon me for being skeptical.

That's actually a *very* good point, and a point of concern. I notice a big difference when I can buy vegetables in-season, eg: locally grown. That said, you're kind of making my point. If the vegetables shipped from Mexico can become "nutrient depleted" (note, I won't ask you to prove how!) why is it a stretch to believe…

good point, I guess that was a non-sequitur - but relevant to the original question as for "killing nutrients", cooking enhances certain nutrients' bioavailability (beta carotene and lycopene being two prominent examples) and diminishes others (B-complex, C and other water-soluble vitamins) either way, anything you buy…

what are your macros? if you are always hungry you may have insulin sensitivity issues, if that's the case you might want to reduce your carb intake and increase your fat and protein intake. MFP defaults 50/30/20 carbs/prot/fat. I would suggest 30/40/30. You'll be more satiated and have fewer swings in blood sugar. Get…
