I have a German Shorthaired Pointer and 100% of my runs are with him, we also participate in Canicross. Essentially, he is taught to pull out in front of me (a bit like a husky pulls a sled) and we are attached via a harness, a waist belt and a lead with bungee. The harness is designed to keep his respiratory tract free…

Yeah if you want to take gels you are doing the right thing by using them in training rather than for the first time on race day and to be honest I think the buzz/atmosphere makes you perform better too at races so you should always improve your time regardless of gel intake. Could you perhaps just take less? Maybe just…

Yeah I'm supposed to be on 1400 cals which is 0.5 per week but usually end up eating 1600-1800 at the moment since I'm out running so much. I would switch to maintenance for now and see how you feel, you're at a fab weight for your height just now anyway so even just maintain for the four weeks leading up to the race then…

My favourite food is chocolate :D but on a serious note I really love the recipes on skinnytaste.com

Personal preference but I don't fuel any of my runs that are 10 miles or below, except with water on hot days (I live in the UK so we don't get too many of those and I mostly carry it for my dog). I don't regularly run more than 10 miles in one session but when I have I just took a banana and a bar. I do have a 350 calorie…

Are you able to just get up and move around every so often? If you work on a higher floor, could you take a couple of flights of stairs, up and down then back to your desk? I read on a thread here a while back that someone did squats or a wall sit for thirty seconds in the cubicle every time they went to use the bathroom.

Firstly congrats on cutting out some unhealthy stuff so far, you're doing better than me as I have chocolate every day! Ideally weigh absolutely everything, but definitely the oats/milk/pb/seeds/cheese/couscous/sweet potato/sausages as those could all add up to extra calories. Even the banana could vary in 50+ calories…

Salt and Pepper and other spices used in cooking i.e. Cinammon, Cumin etc. Water. Herbal teas i.e. without milk.

Agree with this

I wear Saucony Xodus on heavy muddy trails and Saucony Peregrines on lighter/mixed trails, have done 10+ mile trail runs in them both and never had any issues. I wear the non-gortex versions as I find the gortex version inevitably get wet anyway and when they do they turn super heavy and are difficult to dry out. My feet…

I'm 5'4 and currently 135.5 pounds (starting weight 170 pounds). I can't tell you if I was looking like my old self because my old self was around the 150+ mark and I haven't been this light since I was a teenager. I never thought I'd make it inside the normal range, or even beyond 145 but now that I've come this bit…

Agree with all of this. The only other thing I can think of is to practise measuring the most common items cucumber/sweetcorn etc at home so that you get better at eyeballing how much is going onto your plate. You will always be a little off on the accuracy but if you're still losing weight comfortably, you must be close…

I love that you can just throw on a pair of trainers and go. I love that it gets me outdoors rain or shine. I love that I can take my dog with me and we can exercise together, watching him lope about in front keeps me going. I love that your goal can be as personal as you like, that you can just work on beating your own…

I usually have 2 rest days a week, tends to be Tuesday and Friday. On those days I will walk the dog and/or do some stretching but not break a sweat. However, I would also say listen to your body - I recently had an issue with my calf I just could not shift the discomfort for weeks until finally I took 5 consecutive rest…

I agree with the poster above, "one slice" could mean any size, I tend to avoid those entries on the database unless I know what calorie amount I'm looking for or if I've entered the barcode myself. Measuring in grams or ounces is much more accurate.

This. I totally envy the girl in the team behind me who goes out to the gym at lunch and comes back looking just as fresh faced! Also agree that we should just embrace it though :)

We get takeaway pizza once a fortnight, we get a BOGOF deal or similar, other half not counting calories gets what he wants on his. I'll get a thin base, light cheese, some veggies like pepper or mushroom and either some chicken or ham. Preferably skip the dip/sides/desserts entirely. This part might sound a bit…

I love your humour! This was my biggest concern taking up running also and I tried a variety of brands which were either useless for actual support or gave me this horrible pointy shape which I hated. For the last two years I have been wearing Panache Wired Sports Bras and they are AMAZING. The claim is that they reduce…

Distance unless particularly short of time and just trying to fit a run in.

I would echo what everyone else says, well worth it. The other thing is once you know what type or brand of shoes suit you, you could then switch to a cheaper source for your next pair. I bought my first pair from the shop that fit me but then bought the next pair on their website for a cheaper price.

I would suggest Youtube videos or a book on running form which should cover the basics. I read "The Art of Running Faster" recently and it had some good tips about running form in it. Aside from that, joining a club and just asking someone experienced to watch you run and advise may also help.

I made this last night using Pork Fillet but you could easily substitute pork chops, just maybe fry them for longer initially if they are quite thick. Was really simple and quick to make and tasted delicious, so much so I've only got enough leftovers for one instead of two for tonight! ;)…
