  • Prompted by your post, I had a look at older diary entries. I was typically up over 200 grams of carbs a day. While my carbs vary, now I average around 40 grams (including fibre).
  • I like Mark's Daily Apple, Primal Blueprint, and Nom Nom Paleo (she's the "Martha Stewart" of the paleo world) for recpies. Keep in mind . . . people can do some pretty crazy and complicated things when trying to "replace" things that are now "missing" from their diets. I think that defeats a lot of the K.I.S.S. nature of…

  • @redbeard . . . you summed up my household perfectly (just in the reverse). :) Hubby is trying to be genuinly supportive, and he does actually leave the bed with his bag of potato chips when I tell him to get lost with them. :D
  • My hubby is doing exactly the same thing as yours: eating carbs along with the high fat foods. He's terribly confused about his weight gain, as he thinks he's eating like me. I try to tell him that he isn't eating like me, and that if he continues to eat all of the carbs he's eating, he's going to keep having the insulin…
  • At the age of 25 (after my mother brushed off a huge achievement of mine as "average" performance), I accepted that I could only look to myself for validation. I'm now 42. Sure, I get told I'm arrogant and standoffish. But fortunately, I don't care what anyone else thinks. ;) Do what makes sense to you. If you have…
  • That was a very interesting read. Thank you for sharing. :)
  • One of the guy's wives is desperate for plastic surgery. She's a truly stunning woman: spectacularly, breathtakingly, beautiful. She's only been here in Canada for two years, so hopefully the desire to slice and dice her amazing face with ebb with time. I find they're big on pushing food and alcohol. I have to be very firm…
  • Me neither. I won't stop until the bag of cookies is empty, or the cake is gone!
  • Over 1/2 my office (in Calgary, Canada) are men who came to Canada as adults from South Korea. They're a brash bunch (as are their wives), and they share their opinions about everything. I find they aren't malicious, and they're usually quite humorous in their observations. They've commented on my belly fat, my grey hair,…
  • In my experience, CICO is valid. But, I won't use it as an excuse to stuff my face with just anything. My health concerns are greater than just losing a few pounds. I don't eat more now, but I am more satiated now. I actually eat less now, without even trying. It feels like I eat more, but I don't.
  • My physician demanded I change my eating habits, gave me very specific instructions, and told me to book a follow up appointment in eight weeks. He said he'd be able to tell just by looking at me if I didn't do as he told me. Oh, that was AFTER he totally ripped into me about my belly fat, completely wacky blood sugar…
  • Without knowing exactly what you're doing in the way of lifting and training, your body could be retaining excess water in your muscles to help repair them. This is totally normal. It generally takes a month to six weeks for the scale to shift when I'm heavily training (if I'm eating at a deficit). My measurements improve,…
  • For maintenance I'll add a serving or two of fruit and a couple more servings of veg a day. I won't be doing anything too crazy, otherwise I'll bloat back up again.
  • As your glycogen depletes you'll lose 3-4 grams of water for each gram of glycogen that you lose. How much of your 15lbs of weight loss is water will depend on how overweight you are to start and your body's quantities of glycogen. Losing the water weight is just part of the process, and it doesn't negate the hardwork…
  • Congratulations! Those are fabulous results. And, based on the results of your scan, it appears that you've actually put on a couple of pounds muscle while cutting. Phenomenal!
  • Bwahaha! Actually, I AM constipated. :D I didn't think it was funny until now. Sorry. I guess my subject was a bit obtuse. @lodro I'm thinking it would be a good idea to keep the cultures, too.
  • Are you sure you're logging correctly? With a scale? Including all oils you cook with? Every little taste or bite you have of something? I'd say that you either need to tighten up your logging, or you need to cut your calories. You appear to be eating at maintenance. If you cut calories further, I'd recommend that you run…
  • Whole milk or half and half. Despite my best intentions, my half and half usually winds up in my yogurt makers instead of in my coffee cup.
  • I prefer to keep it private. I really appreciate the fact that this group is devoid of so much of the nonsense of the main forums. This is such a positive and supportive group. I'd like to see it stay that way. I'm actually a long term MFP user. I've been using MFP almost since the beginning in 2005. I've deleted my…

  • Why did the NP tell you that you needed to lose the weight "immediately?" Do you have a critical health concern that would make the medication a wise choice for now?
  • Thank you for sharing this recipe. I'm going to try these (with full fat yogurt and all of the egg yolks). I bet they're delish. :)
  • Congratulations! I'm so impressed with your determination. Good on you. :)
  • Good stuff! Hopefully the doc gave you the blood work forms? If so, you can book an appointment on the Calgary Lab Services website. It saves sitting there in the waiting room for hours.
  • I eat high-fat dairy, and I tolerate it very well. I eat a lot of hard cheese and high (10% or 11%) fat plain yogurt. I use full fat milk, and sometimes cream, in my coffee.
  • Oh! I just had a look at your profile again. I see that you're in Calgary. If they don't have any tests at campus health, you can have a test done at the Pregnancy Care Centre. The Calgary location is along the 7th Ave C-Train line (205, 925 - 7th Ave SW). If you're at the U of C it is a quick train ride down. They have…
  • Does "Slim Fast" count? If so, then "yes." I used Slim Fast in the '90s. I was constantly hungry and miserable, and while I did lose a few pounds the diet was not sustainable for me. I also tried the "Master Cleanse" for around six hours once. That was just miserable. I tried green tea tablets around 2009, but they did…
  • Low carb eating can bring about menstrual irregularities, but in looking at your food log I don't think that would be the reason. While you've had some "lower" carb days I don't think they're low enough to cause irregularities. And, I think your lower carb days would be offset by your higher carb days. I don't see anything…
  • I weigh myself daily: unless I'm dealing with TOM bloating. But, I also use the iPhone app "Happy Scale" which calculates my moving averages for my weight. It is the Happy Scale number that I use as my "official" weight. The moving average can be more, or less, than what the scale reads.
