  • Apples, raspberries, lowfat yogurt, Special K Protein bars, Belvita Breakfast Bites, Clif Bars, and Larabars are my go-to snacks during the day while I'm at work.
  • I actually started counting calories a week before Thanksgiving last year, but thankfully I had already decided not to embark on an aggressive weight loss plan. So I was able to eat what I wanted but chose smaller portions. The trick is portion control. For example, instead of two spoonfuls of mashed potatoes, get one…
  • I tried that last year around this time, and it looked, smelled and tasted disgusting. Blech!
  • My mother is like your mom, OP, except that she usually makes empty threats (I'll disown or disinherit you) or sighs dramatically over little things, such as I allowed my teenage daughter to get colored streaks in her hair. And my hair, which is naturally curly, thick and generally unruly has ALWAYS been an issue with her.…
  • I just got back from a long Labor Day weekend, and I survived being in South Carolina, surrounded by delicious food and alcohol everywhere. Fortunately my hotel room had a mini fridge and a microwave so I was able to store my food I brought. Also did not go to the restaurants that were within walking distance of the hotel.…
  • I broke my goals down to very small increments. Nine months ago I started at 227 and being under 200 seemed impossible. But I gave myself a goal to lose 2 lbs first. Then after I got to 225 it was can I lose 5 more pounds. When I was under 220 I felt incredible, and I knew I could lose more. So I celebrate every 5 pounds…
  • Moderation is the key. If you are eating out for lunch and dinner, consider ordering an appetizer as your main meal as they are generally smaller portions. Soup and a half sandwich or salad are also good ideas. I always keep the MFP app on my home screen so I can log my food even at restaurants. You'll probably need to…
  • I don't log the 10 calories in my fish oil pills, mints (1.8 in a tic tac) or zero calorie diet sodas. I also don't log one french fry, but I will log one Hershey Kiss or one Snickers Mini Bite, as those are 20 to 25 calories per piece. My rule of thumb is if it's 10 calories or under, I don't log it; however I always…
  • My GP's extremely obese nurse usually hands me a paper with weight loss tips every time I go for a checkup. It's the same generic stuff you can find almost anywhere - less processed foods, more fruits and veggies, exercise more. Nothing earth shattering or new. Then when I tell her I lost weight with CICO and walking more,…
  • I log everything, even alcohol. You might be shocked at how much one 12 ounce bottle of beer has. Even if you go over your limit for today, enjoy it, and stick to your plan tomorrow. I drink one hard cider about two or three times a week and I enjoy it. I don't worry about burning off the calories because I incorporate…
  • You and I are from the Philly area so I'd suggest hitting some of the sales at Kohl's. Or even go to your local Goodwill and you'll see tons of gently used clothing and lots of designer labels. I've noticed that sizes and fit vary wildly from various clothing designers. For example, I normally wear a size 16 in jeans but…
  • It will go away. Your body is in shock from the lack of sugar and calories you would normally consume during the day. I've been counting calories for 9 months now and I remember warning everyone that I'd probably be a little cranky and irritable for a few weeks when I first started. I found that drinking a lot of water…
  • If he loved you he wouldn't be issuing an ultimatum (order) like you are one of his subordinates. Lose the weight for yourself. I know I'm just rehashing what the other posters have said but I have a bit more understanding in this, as I was married to a military man for 13 years. Please note that I said WAS. They have been…
  • Start with small, even tiny changes. Drink one less sugary soda a day, if you drink sugary soda. Say no to that second helping of dessert. You can't go from eating over 2500 calories a day to 1200 and expect to stick with that for more than a few days at best. Even now, 276 days in, I still set my calorie goal to 1970…
  • I have an Angry Orchard hard cider a few times a week and I log it. 220 calories for 12 ounces means I only drink one though.
  • I make a sauce out of chocolate PB2 and put it on my lowfat vanilla ice cream. Really yummy and only adds 45 calories.
  • Cookies were my go-to binge food. Especially homemade Toll House chocolate chip cookies. I'd eat the raw dough (don't judge please) and then eat 5 or more of the finished product. I'd also sneak cookies at night after my daughter was asleep. This was after a full day of eating about 2500 calories or more, then I'd add…
  • ^ This. Eat when you feel hungry and stay within your macros and you will lose weight. There's a lot of bogus information on the internets about "stoking your metabolism" or "jumpstarting your weight loss" by eating this, that and the other thing, but it's junk science.
  • I tried cardio kickboxing and I loved it! Really helped me with my flexibility.
  • In my experience I am still fighting my food cravings for certain junk foods but they've become less intense. I've been calorie counting since November 2014 and in the beginning every day was a struggle. Now it's just certain trigger foods that I have a hard time with, like Nutella. I love Nutella but I can't just eat one…
  • @believingministries, you are doing great! Keep up the good work :)
  • I only have about 3.5 to 4 pounds to go, depending on the day :) I've lost 24 pounds so far and was at 210 for about a month before the scale started going down. On the positive side, I'm still lighter than I was before I had my daughter 13 years ago.
  • I log my food and exercise daily, check in several times a day also. Currently at a 262 day streak. Feel free to add me.
  • Chester County here. West Chester native.
  • Two cupcakes will definitely not derail your weight loss. To quote Taylor Swift, "Shake It Off" and move on. It is not the end of the world! I've done a lot worse since I started. Please don't give up, you can do this :)
  • I managed to fit a small ice cream from Marble Slab Creamery with Butterfinger pieces and fudge sauce into my plan last night. So yummy but I couldn't even eat it all. I also find that protein-rich food keeps me more satisfied and drinking water in between meals keeps me feeling full. Also cut back on eating a lot of bread…
  • PB2 or Chocolate PB2 is great for cravings and it is only 45 calories for 2 tablespoons reconstituted with water. Personally I like the Chocolate PB2 sprinkled on vanilla ice cream.
  • I'm 48 and I've lost 24 pounds since November 2014. I feel great but I also know if I was in my 20's or 30's I'd have probably lost twice that amount by now. Feel free to add me. I log daily, currently on a 261 day streak.
  • I sprinkle the chocolate PB2 on lowfat vanilla ice cream for a treat. Really delicious. I've also mixed it as a dip for fruit or veggies.
