I hope he continues professional boxing. He has more talent than he knows what to do with, and he could be really great one day. I'd definitely be interested in seeing him in future fights.

Why would you chose to believe something that is objectively false?
-
It was just a stupid joke about Conor looking like he’d just run a marathon 3 rounds into the fight. The only thing that could have actually helped him would have been 5 or 10 years as a professional boxer before stepping in the ring. Amateurs rarely fair well against professionals, he put up a respectable fight all things…

that's my point. You made a statement of fact, but called it an opinion. Calling something an opinion doesn't make it so. All that it means is that you are ignoring objective truth and substituting it with your favored reality. Yoga is objectively exercise, and it objectively burns calories. You can't have an opinion that…

Unpopular opinion: Yoga is boring Categorically false statement: Yoga is not exercise and doesn't burn calories You can't just make a factually incorrect statement and call it an opinion. Facts are not subject to subjective opinions.

certified non-GMO labels don't bother me anymore than other marketing puffery like "handmade" or "artisan." It's just marketing.

no, that sounds brutal. could be fun to do with a team though.

when I was 22 and fresh out of active duty I lived 2 blocks from the best yoga studio in Baltimore, and being a healthy young man with a single track mind, I figured it would be a great way to meet women. (it was). I stopped going a few years later when I moved to New York. Coincidentally, that's also when I started piling…

I really need to start doing yoga again, but it would be hard to fit into my schedule, and I'm till much heavier than I was back when I did it regularly, so my vanity is an impairment. But sooner or later I should start doing it again so i can regain that level of mobility.

when I was doing yoga, many years ago, I tried many different kinds. Vinyasa (which means "flow") Yoga is all about movement, and is very taxing on the muscles. There was another form that the studio called "zen" yoga, which was entirely stretching and holding poses for long time. It was intentionally not strenuous, and…

it's a poor way to make it. Muscle IS more dense than fat, but not by much. Fat weighs about 4/5 what an equal volume of muscle weighs. People act like it's double or more. In my photo I have, a sickening to think about, 100 pounds of fat hanging on my body. If every ounce of that was muscle instead, and I had 0% BF, but…

eating a large calorie deficit it's nearly impossible that I will add any lean mass between now and then, it's far more likely that by the time I get to 180 I will be down to a LBM of 150 or less, even with lifting. So I'll be around 15% - 18% BF at that time. I know what that looks like, and it's hardly "lean." I'd say…

ok, that's just silly

can we address the absurd image they use to illustrate muscle vs fat? I'm 6 feet tall, and weighed 250 pounds just a few week ago. That person on the right is an incredibly poor representation of a 250 pound, 6 foot tall person. A person with those body dimensions would weigh closer to 350-400 pounds. But this is the…

This is kind of a silly question. Nearly everyone in the world, say 95%+ of the population, CAN be in the healthy BMI range. Building enough muscle to push you into being overweight despite low BF% take additional effort beyond what would be considered "normal" exercise. It doesn't happen by accident. I don't believe for…

My goal will be < 10% bf assuming i lose less than 5% of my current lean mass, so my plan, should o reach my goal, is to then start bulking.

somebody forgot to tell the poor kid that real boxing matches last longer than 3 rounds.

the lasts 2 saturdays the community workout at my CrossFit gym involved team-based workouts. First week the class was divided into groups of 3. The workout had crazy high reps 100 cal assault bike 100 thrusters 100 box jumps 100 pullups 100 box jumps 100 thrusters 100 cal assault bike Each person in the team would take…

Judging by the performance Colin McGreggor put on against Mayweather, I’d say that MMA fighters could probably stand to do some more Crossfit style conditioning

I never really enjoyed working out with other people, whether just a few people lifting in the gym or a bunch of people in a class. But I recently started going to CrossFit classes, and I LOVE the group aspect there.

keep in mind, the doctors demand that he lose so much weight is not strictly about him getting to a long term, sustainable healthy weight. As I wrote in an earlier post, losing weight very quickly, more quickly than otherwise would be considered healthy, before surgery is an effective way to remove excess fat stored around…

you're just going to ignore the pesky fact that in the timeframe during which SUVs grew in popularity, very recently, gas prices were decreasing? A point which seems to validate the hypothesis that when prices fall people consume more.

nobody is proposing taking away ANYTHING from ANYBODY.

I'm taking a week of mandatory vacation soon, and I don't have anywhere to go or anything better to do, so I'm going to double down and hit the gym twice a day the whole week, just destroy myself for the week. Metcon in the morning, strength training in the evening.

I'm still mid-conversion into paleo. Probably 90% paleo at this point. Feel free to add me.

It's hard to get hooked until you figure out what weights you SHOULD be lifting, the ones that really stress your muscles. Otherwise it just feels tedious. A plan like the stronglifts 5x5 helps shortcut you to that weight, because you get progressively heavier every time you lift.
-
If it's only temporary, and specifically to prepare your body for surgery, you can go much, much lower than you normally would otherwise. It'll be hard, but you can probably cut to 1200 calories a day for that time without any adverse effects other than being really, really hungry. Your doctor is trying to force your body…
