  • I have lots of life left to live, but here's my fitness journey thus far... https://youtu.be/uq65wHfdm1U
  • This is my first attempt at a "weight loss journey" video. Made it in Google Photos. Amateurish but oh well... ;) https://youtu.be/uq65wHfdm1U
  • I'm guessing 95% of other doctors would not give that advice. When I was 4 months post op I was eating regular foods and doing fine. Your last sentence kind of says it all. If that theory makes sense to you, then... Personally, I don't believe (and the SCIENCE backs it up) weight loss really isn't about calories anyway.…
  • @capecodgirl50 I'm assuming 3/14 means March 2014? IMHO, I don't think your hair loss has to do with surgery. Hair loss tends to occur in the 6-12 months after surgery. Then it eventually stops. Taking bioten and vitamins MAY help but there's no scientific evidence that it does. I think the best thing you can do is make…
  • If you cut out processed food you may start seeing results. That means even the "healthy" stuff.
  • I know it's a little thing that but ya might want to start by changing profile pic. Being reminded of 3 Musketeers all the time may be making you crave them.
  • Um... AWESOME! Especially on trails. I'm doing four 5k's today. Excited and nervous!
  • Below is link to my race pics. That's what a 3 year post op bariatric looks like running a Half-Marathon after a 200+lb weight loss. New PR! 2hr 2min 20sec https://captivatingsportsphotos.shootproof.com/gallery/18winecountryhalf/search?q=573
  • Paso Robles Wine Country Half Marathon today. So excited I can't sleep! My second Half and my 46th birthday to boot. PR 2:08:40. That's the time to beat!
  • My second Half-Marathon on my birthday TODAY. Wine Country Half in Paso Robles CA. Turning 46. PR from first is 2hr 8min 40sec. Definitely think I can beat that today. I've come a long way since losing over 200lbs.
  • March 16 is my 3 year Surgiversary so I thought it might be a good time to update my stats. BTW, my real name is James. I'm an SDSU alum hence the MFP name. I'm 5'10" and I'll turn 46 on Sunday. I'm a San Diego native and currently live in San Luis Obispo, California (America's Happiest City) HW 403 Feb 2014 SW 359…
  • Honestly this makes no sense to me. I understand protein recommendations after WLS but to say 60 have to come from an artificial liquid source? I would think you'd absorb LESS, not more. I quit protein drinks within a few months of VSG. I eat mostly whole foods and get plenty of protein from food. I'm the lightest and…
  • I'd love to see more Non Scale Victories celebrated. I see lots of posts regarding weight. Regain, pre-op diet, juice cleanses, Keto, life events, etc etc. And I realize we're all reading this because we had or are about to have WEIGHT Loss Surgery. Weight is an important measurement for so many reasons. But there are also…
  • @BariatricMarina It's do-able but you will have to be committed to the process for the next three months. I'm curious why they chose 40lbs? That seems like a lot. I was 200lbs overweight and my doctor wanted me to lose 15-20. How many pounds overweight would you estimate you are? I'm sure if you lose at least 35 they'll…
  • @TheOne1985 My co-worker smokes cigarettes. He stopped briefly right before and after he had vsg in Sept 2014. But he eventually went back to it. He also went back to his old eating habits and stopped exercising. He's gained back at least 50lbs he lost. He doesn't even talk about his surgery anymore.
  • @KDar1988 unfortunately restricting your food more and more will not get you to your weight goals. Your post kind of proves (again) my point that CICO thinking doesn't work. Try concentrating on eating whole foods and cutting out processed foods as much as possible. I personally eat a lot of food and am never hungry. I…
  • I laugh out loud. I wonder how our ancestors regulated weight before they knew what calories were? Or every other species on the planet? Or the 99% of people on earth who dont track calories?
  • Tasting or for you? The former is a matter of opinion. The latter it's neither. If you're comparing to regular Coke, it's definitely better for you. Ideally water is the BEST beverage to drink most of the time.
  • CICO thinking is like when we thought the earth was flat 500 years ago. I ate about the same calories at 400lbs that I do at 195. But now it's not processed junk. There are so many factors that effect weight. Gender age fitness genetics stress sleep menstruation etc etc. To think that a simple math equation if energy…
  • It's better than SUGAR. Way better. Eat fruit for sweets.
  • It's engineered to be ADDICTIVE. The salt sugar and fat are combined in ways that are highly palatable. You will go through withdrawals but it will be worth it.
  • Almost ANYTHING is better than refined sugar.
  • Water. Pre during post
  • This thread is hilarious. Moderate amounts of popcorn is fine. Some are more "fattening" then others but it's unlikely its the main reason for weight accumulation.
  • Yes. There is a happy medium. I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I don't count calories or macros. I eat mainly whole foods. I'm a bus driver so I sit a lot too. Try to move as often as I can though. Maintaining 200lbs weight loss for a couple of years now. The theory of thermodynamics with calories DOESN'T…
  • I'm VSG so not lapband but I can tell you this - Calorie counting DOESN'T WORK. Time and time again I see posts like this. If the "law" of thermodynamics worked you would have definitely lost weight in the past year. The average person "burns" 1500-3000 calories a day. I don't know the specifics of what you're eating but…
  • I think the number of meals one eats is a personal preference. Some people like the structure of 3 meals with maybe a snack or two. I personally like the flexibility of eating how often and how much I want to satiation. I've heard some people call that "intuitive" eating. My GF calls it the "James Way" (James being my real…
  • @rachelsb1 I'm sorry for the loss of your mother. My mom is turning 85 and I know at some point she will not be around. Life is precious. As for your weight it sounds like you're fine. Many people have "regains" of more than 10-20lbs. I'm more concerned that you're "always hungry". I fear you may be eating low calorie…
