Well, there really isn't a "normal" weight loss after surgery. So many factors at play here. Age, gender, starting weight, exercise, genetics, etc etc. What you're going through sounds normal though. That is, weight loss will not be linear. And it's not about calories. You will lose A LOT more weight in the coming months.…

@Ultima_Morpha I'm on Strava too. You can find me under my real name James Lacher. Do you have the premium membership? If so do you think it's worth the $?

@loveshoe I like your #2 question. I heard once on a Podcast something similar. Ask yourself, "could I eat a salad right now?". If not then you're probably not really hungry. I drive a bus for work and always keep water in the console for easy access. Sometimes when I think I may be hungry I'll have a drink and then I'll…

I'm a vegatarian that suppliments my diet with meat. ;-)

I returned to work as a bus driver 13 days after surgery If I had a desk job probably could have been back in a week. The day after i got home from surgery I started regularly. Longer and faster as I recovered. If you're feeling well, move as much as possible. I believe that helped speed up overall recovery.

@Samquentin I've been very fortunate in that most of my co-workers have been supportive of my new, healthy lifestyle. I think a lot of that has to do with that they SEE me around town walking/biking/running (I work for the county bus system). Also when I'm in the break room having a snack it's always something healthy.…

The calorie unit of energy is not disputable but the way our bodies processed different calories is. If anyone thinks a 100 calorie oreo pack is the same as a 100 calorie apple your nuts.

All of the above suggestions are great. Especially making crock pot meals. :) I can't say that I relate because I live alone so I control all the food in my house. And I don't have the pressures of taking care and feeding others. I think the thing you may have to take a close look at is addiction to sugar and refined…

I've been running more in 2018 in anticipation of upcoming races. Many of my friends/co-workers have seen me around the county getting a few miles in. I work for San Luis Obispo county bus so they're all drivin around anyway, lol. But its nice to hear honks and for them to tell me they "saw me running". I've become known…

@duffslove I think you just pretty much proved that CICO at doesn't work. You can try to figure it out until you're blue in the face and it will never work out precisely. I'm nearly 3 years post op and within a few months of surgery I was eating 2000+ calories a day. And now I probably average 3000. I lost 165lbs the first…

I haven't counted calories in a few years. I just try to limit my processed foods. If I had to guess I probably eat anywhere from 2,500-4,000 calories a day depending on my appetite. I usually eat more the more I exercise. I honestly think that most people (including bariatrics) can eat 1500-2500 a day if they eat more…

Happy to see some bariatric folks RUNNING! A few years ago I had no intention of becoming a "runner". Heck, I could barely walk around the block. Even the first year or so after surgery I mainly walked/biked/hiked. I never thought my knees could handle the pounding. And besides, I didn't want to get that sweaty! lol. But I…

@Fit4LifeAR I wouldn't worry about that. The nurse at the bariatric center I go to told me once out of over 1,500 patients NONE have ever lost "too much". The average loss is 50-70% of "excess weight". Sounds like you have reasonable goals. If you change you eating and exercise habits you should be able to reach your…

So I've been following this thread and thought I'd add my two cents. My highest weight was 403 in Feb 2014. When I had VSG in March 2015 I was 360. About a year later I was in the 220's. I never really set a hard "goal weight" but in the back of my mind I thought "if I could get to 220ish that would be SWEET :D ". In…

I just re-read your original post. He sounds like an *kitten*. So if you break up with him he would fire you too? Based on what you wrote, I see no reason why you'd want to stick around. If you are worried for your safety if you break up with him take proper precautions like always having someone with you when you're…

I was eating stuff like malto meal, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, soft fruits like bananas. I did make the mistake of trying tried chicken 10 days after surgery. Lesson learned! Try your doctor's recommendations but keep in mind you won't be able to tolerate some stuff. It's lots of trial and error those first few months.…

@Hbazzell Hi Hannah. I sent you friend request on FitBit. I'm Aztec4Life on there too (real name James)

It sounds like it's not going to get better. You're probably better off moving back home and starting over. Could that really be worse than your current situation?

@loveshoe My dietician recommended this surgeons videos. He seems pretty knowledgeable. LOTS of good advice.

@1bearfro2 If that what works for you great. But who are you "cheating". I indulge from timd to time and have no off limits foods. Read "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes. After that book ive never had tp worry about food.

I know I've wrote this before on these boards but the simplest thing to do is cut refined carbohydrates as much as possible. Specifically sugar. I think the reason folks gain weight or struggle to maintain a loss is because they don't truly change their habits. I'm coming up on 3 years in March and the only weight gain I…

@Samquentin Be prepared for lots of compliments! Especially from people who haven't seen you in a while. :) ;)

@loveshoe I completely understand where you're coming from. I never weighed quite as often as you describe but there were many times where it was near daily. I've asked many of my "regular" sized co-workers how often they weigh and most couldn't even tell me the last time. I think us as bariatric patients but so much…

Sounds like he can pretty much eat the same at work or when you're not around. As for shared meals if there's a few less carbs on his plate he'll be fine. The important thing is to limit the processed foods. I still probably eat 30-40% of my calories from carbs but I limit refined versions of them.

@loveshoe Deal! My PR in 5k is currently 27:45. I'm way more confident I can break that than I am the Bolts beaying the 'Boys!

I'm hoping the Chargers take a "bite" out of the Cowboys and actually wins game against a decent team! The thing I'm looking forward to most is the 5k Turkey Trot in the morning. My girlfriend and her daughter's are going to Universal Studios next week so we'll be out of town for Thanksgiving dinner. Don't even know where…

20-Mile Country Run in Clarksburg near Sacramento. 11:16 pace. Not bad for a guy who weighed over 400lbs three years ago.
-
First pic was taken right before running a 20-Mile Race near Sacramento. Hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Walked a lot more than I anticipated but I finished! 3hr 45min 22sec. And then a selfie with my "bling". Next up, full Marathon in 2018!

That initial big weight loss after surgery is a one shot deal. The important thing is you know what to do now to create a healthy life for yourself. Like @pattycakes726 says at least you're going in right direction. That's what counts! Having a smaller stomach definitely helps too. There are times when a small indulgence…
