I look at the whole drinking before and after meals as more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule. Does anybody really think we're going to be following all these rules decades down the road? Here's what I do, I CHEW my food. Digestion starts in the mouth. My dietician advised me to focus more on not drinking AFTER than…

My girlfriend brother did a 40 day fast for lent many years ago. Lost about 25lbs. Ended up in hospital 3 days when he started eating again. He weighs around 400lbs now. Why are you fasting?
-
@loveshoe Not directly bit when he was talking about inflammation he did say he "weighed a little more" than he would like to be. He also said because of his diet he didn't have inflammation anymore.

https://youtu.be/jrIfx5pfKfk I came across this recent video of Jimmy Moore talking about Keto diet. He's one of the prominent voices of the Keto community. He lost a lot of weight but as you can see from the video he's gained a significant portion back. I'm wondering what you guys might think the cause might be? Too many…

@fit_chickx I agree, I definitely eat more because I'm exercising daily. I would NOT recommend 3,600 calories for most bariatric patients especially if they are still trying to lose. If I ate 3,600 calories daily without the exercise I would probably start gaining slowly. Yesterday I ate around 2,500 calories because I…

20-Miler on 11/12 in Clarksburg CA. Kind of an odd distance but it will be a good step up as I prepare for my first Marathon next year.

The book that influenced my thinking the most is "Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes. He's a science writer that's basically a proponent of low-carb. I don't agree with everything he writes (I eat more fruit than he recommends) but his writing is based on science and it seems to work, for me at least. You can find podcasts and…

Different doctors have different theories on this. Bottom line is do whatever they recommend. Definitely need to fast that last 24 hours.

@Bekah7482 I've actually thought about logging for an entire week just to see. My meals are so random throughout day but I'll make it a point to log soon. The calories get high sometimes because I don't worry about fat.

I'm coming up on 3 years in January since I met the surgical team (VSG Mar 2015) and started changing my eating/moving habits. I've heard and read a lot about "head hunger". I would describe it more as processed food hunger/cravings. Typically when I have experienced this it's because I'm thinking of a processed food. I…

Just this morning I was interviewed for a RUNNING podcast. Wow, I couldn't have even imagined such a thing even a year ago. The podcast is at DizRuns.com . He's a relatively well known coach in the running community. I had emailed him a few months ago to thank him for his great work and told him his podcasts help keep me…

I did my first Half earlier this month in 2:09. Found a 20-miler and signed up for it next month. It's in Clarksburg just south of Sacremento. Barring injury i figure I should be able to cruise in under 4 hours. My goal when trying a new distance is simply to have fun and finish injury free with a snile on my face.

@ppadgett62 How did you do over Summer with the weight goals?

Awesome!

I met my bariatric surgeon January 2015 and had surgery two months later. Since that initial meeting I'm down approximately 200lbs. I've pasted a link to the website that I track my weight on. It's pretty cool because it averages recent weights. You can see every weigh-in I've logged since that initial meeting. I gained a…

@fit_chickx How did that race go? Today I did my first Half-Marathon. Really proud of myself. My original goal was 2:30. And thought I could do 2:15 if everything went right. Then a few nights ago I dreamt I ran 2:10:40. I ended up doing 2:08:40. Other than having a bit of a head cold everything went really well. 44 months…

Office snacks are ubiquitous these days. It's TERRIBLE. That's one reason I love my job as a bus driver. I'm on my own out there and have my own snacks with me.
-
It's about habits. Switching to fruit is good. I'm convinced it's processed carbs we crave when we emotionally eat. It will be hard for a few days but if you cut out the processed stuff you'll be healthier and happier.
-
Keep doing that but stay away from processed foods.
-
Look into getting that lapband revised to vsg or bypass if you haven't had it removed already. First thing to do is cut down on refined carbohydrates as much as possible.
-
Yeah. Start right now instead.

@Valsgoals I think just MOVING throughout day is really important. Even if you're not strenuously working out. Get those steps in!
-
No matter how thirsty you get over the following few days, remember to SIP your water! On my way home from hospital I gulped and it felt like I swallowed a golf ball! Took 10 minutes just to recover enough to travel again.

At around 8 months I think I'd stop counting calories. If I had to guess maybe 2,000 a day? By that time I was eating "normally", mostly non-processed foods. I didnt and don't worry about protein because if I'm eating right I get plenty. I think the important thing is to keep working on creating good day to day habits.…

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't worrry about BMI. It's a made up number by a Belgian mathematician from 150 years ago. Insurance companies starting using it in the 90's because it was easy way for them to raise rates or deny coverage for overweight individuals. I've lost over 200lbs but by BMI standards I'd still need to lose…

Be Happy. <3 :)

If you find yourself craving food in those situations tell yourself you can eat but NO PROCCESSED FOOD. I guarantee your snacking on refined carbs and not a salad! Lol

I've read about it some. It usually takes at least 3 sessions and they are spread out over many weeks. I think the cost was like $600-1,000 a session depending on target area. Honestly I think it's more for the person who has 10-20lbs of fat to freeze in a certain part of body like waist or thighs. And it's painful. Be…

I don't mind getting asked advice. I know most probably won't take it but that's their loss (or not, lol) I guess. I think people come to me because not only did I lose weight, but I became more fit. I have 6 co-workers who had WLS and everyone is at least 18 months post op. None are near their goal weight. 3 of them look…
