  • I believe the science behind keto is sound, but... you will be eating 75-85% of your calories from fat to get into true ketosis. Needless to say, this is hard to maintain when you eventually get off it. It seems very rare that people stay on it long term. (There are a few MFP friends that are and I applaud them!) If you…
  • For my work I transport disabled persons around the county. A new passenger said to me yesterday, "I noticed your legs in the elevator. They look pretty strong. Do you run or bike?" This is significant because I had just met him and he didn't know that I had lost weight or had bariatric surgery. He was basically just…
  • I'm convinced that processed food (mainly carbs) cravings are why people "get off track". Try to cook as much if your food at home. :) <3
  • Walk as soon as and as much as your doctor will allow immediately after surgery. You WILL LOSE WEIGHT very quickly. Take advantage of this initial recovery time to develop good exercise/movement habits.
  • I walk at least 12,000 and run about 4-5 times a week. Thise have become habitual (like showering or brushing my teeth) so I don't really consider them "exercise". I think the reason I can eat so much is that I'm eating REAL food. Yes, I indulge from time to time but for the most part I eat whole foods that I cook for…
  • Get off of "keto" diet. Just make smart choices. Have fruits and veggies.
  • So you've los about 30lbs in 6 weeks. That's really GOOD. I'm guessing your appt is 9/13 not 6/13? Why do you "have to" be 220 when you see surgeon? Is he going to scold you if you weigh more? Or less? I've fond that folks who focus on that scale never get to where they want with their health. At 6 weeks out I was eating…
  • Fall "race" season fast approaching. Looking forward to cooler weather. My running distances and frequency has definitely lessened with the warm weather. 5k coming up this Saturday and then my first Half-marathon on October 8. I'm super excited to see how I do in that. Anyone have races coming up or has picked up running…
  • My surgeon recommended VSG and that's what I was leaning towards anyway. And it's worked out well for me. I'm sure the surgery team has a preference if you really probe. Weigh the pros and cons of EVERYTHING.
  • Welcome. If you stick to it cravings for junk food should disappear in about 2-3 weeks. You're on your way to better health!

  • At four months I was probably eating 1,500-2,000 calories. I think the TYPES of food one eats is way more important than calories. I stay away from processed foods especially refined carbohydrates and SUGAR.
  • Thanks for the sugar post. I think if more people cut down on added sugars they would see dramatic changes in their health. I don't know if this is "tiny" or "big" but I try to get 10,000 steps in EVERYDAY . After I got over a case of shingles last year I picked up walking again. Since November 17 I've hit my step goal…
  • I can't seem to figure out how to post pics on these group threads. Can someone explain?
  • For ANYONE who's frustrated with scale / weight Google "calorie myth". Our bodies don't "burn" calories like in a lab. It's about the QUALITY of food we're consuming. I probably eat at least 2,500 calories a day and am maintaining a 200lbs weight loss. But I dont eat a lot of processed food and especially stay away from…
  • @fit_chickx Yes, definitely glorified candy bars. You know that it's the processing that make them so hyper-palatable. It's hard being "good" 100% of time. No biggie, you're doing right thing going to the gym and you'll brush it off!
  • When they did a podcast on female maturation and periods. Pretty funny hearing two dudes talk about it.

  • @QueenLB33 Sounds like good advice your getting from dietician. I don't worry about macros too much being two and half years post op. I think I've found a eating plan that's right for me. If you're eating a good balance of food you should have no problem getting 60gr of protein. After surgery it will be harder so you may…

  • Hmmm... Wonde how everyone's year is going?
  • Have to cut down on refined carbohydrates and processed foods in general. Animals dont get fat because they don't eat that junk.
  • @gamommy Through my own research the past few years I've come to conclusion that calories aren't really relevant to weight loss. I'm convinced it's about the TYPES of food a peerson eats that is important. I see so many people on mfp eating 1,000-1,200 calories struggling to "maintain" their weight. I'm at my lowest weight…
  • @msjennigirl That's a tough situation you're in. Definitely get them on board as much as possible with your new lifestyle. But also be respectful that they're going to still eat these foods on occasion around you. I live alone and my girlfriend is also a bariatric patient so we tend to eat similar foods. I just dont keep…
  • It is a major surgery but without it you will probably suffer from obesity and die decades earlier than expected if you don't do it. Those are FACTS. I'm not saying it's an easy decision or it's easy after but it's a WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY to create a healthy and long life.
  • Weight is important but don't forget to focus on healthy habits. That loss can be fleeting. Plenty of folks come and go in these groups because all they cared about was getting to "goal". Congrats so far. Keep up the healthy new lifestyle.

  • I eat all the FAT and skin on the rotisserie chicken. To me it's the best part and fills me up. Breaking free from Calories in Calories out thinking has freed my thinking on food and helped me get to my HEALTHIEST point in my life.
  • If it works for you continue to take. I'd never heard of it so did a quick Google search. Looks like it's what's used in Meta-Musal. I don't take too many supplements anymore. Try to get my nutrition the old-fashioned way, lol.
  • 25lbs in month and a half? Whats the rush? Even if you got there you would destroy your metabolism. Change habits and you'll lose weight.

  • Yesterday I went to the Mid-State Fair with my "little" (I volunteer for Big Brithers/Sisters). With my healthy body I was able to go on any ride and keep up with him. And with healthy eating habits I didn't have "fair food" on my mind all day. Indulged a bit, but that's ok. I'm living the life I've always dreamed.
  • @garber6th I just got some new one's on Amazon called Senso. They have a long life and good sound.

  • As a reward for getting under 200lbs (and staying there for a month) Tomorrow I'll be getting another tattoo this one on my right arm. It's going to be "Banana Man" in Lego form. I love eating bananas and my stomach is the size of one now! Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could achieve this level of health when I…
