  • On a good day, everything! Before all this started my appetite was indestructible! Now on bad day, like today, I might get one meal in and then have no appetite whatsoever. When it gets like this I make myself eat but can only manage things like ice blocks, muesli bars or maybe a piece of fruit.
  • It is so comforting to hear I'm not the only one with this kind of thing happening! but I hope you all are magically better and no longer having to put up with this! (Probably wishful thinking tho huh?) Those of you interested in an update.. -my weight has remained pretty stable recently (im making myself eat even if…
  • A long wait until I can see a specialist. Not sure what type; I think the dr referred me to a few.
  • Yup. Negative result
  • Ta for the link, will definitely try some of those things.
  • I can't seem to tolerate any dairy except yoghurt and even moderate amounts of that cause problems. I'm trying juices etc but just have no appetite even for those. I don't think it's psychological as it is the same every day regardless of stress level or days off etc and I've been prescribed medication to reduce nausea…
  • Muesli bars are a winner when you're in a rush too
  • Hey from my own experience working with swimmers who do intense training in the early morning I'd suggest a small snack before your workout and then something more sustaining straight afterwards. For example, a banana, piece of toast or small smoothie beforehand and then afterwards have something high in protein to help…
  • Awesome, congrats! Increasing length is great, if it were me I would try doing some periods of faster swimming within the workout; but it's up to you. I'd recommend a rest time of less than a minute per 400m (but again it is up to you; you could just slow down instead or try a different stroke rather than stop completely,…
  • First up make sure you are measuring your calories accurately and that your maximum is right for your height/weight/activity level. You could try mixing the exercise up a bit. Faster lengths among slower lengths, add in some other strokes or drills (e.g. lengths of freestyle, arms only swimming/legs only etc). If you do…
  • Also.. calorie input vs output. If you are eating more calories than you burn then you won't notice any change in your physique.
  • There are lots of things to consider in how much weight this will help you lose. First, what stroke are you doing? Butterfly is going to help you burn more calories but i'm guessing you are doing freestyle which is less demanding. It's a good idea to mix up your swimming a bit - maybe swim breast-stroke there and freestyle…
  • Chocolate self-saucing pudding with vanilla ice-cream... Yuuuum!
  • If your energy is low, you might want to get a dr to check your iron levels.
  • I tore my cartilage in my knee about ten years ago. I did it when I landed on it weirdly after going over a vault in gymnastics. It was painful upon landing but I kept vaulting and didn't rest or ice it and that night it became very swollen and was still sore. I went to the doctor in the next few days and she said I had…
  • As a swim teacher, I second the warm up. Try doing some arm circles and leg swings before you hop in the pool as this will help lubricate your joints. Then when you hop in do a few lengths or so at a easy pace. As suggested above, the middle of your workout should be the most intensive. If you can only do breast-stroke you…
  • It could be due to muscle gain. I think it would be a good idea to start taking some other measurements rather than just weight. If you think it could be because of the implant it would be advisable to speak with your doctor.
