My cardiologist told me that I had to find a way to eat and exercise that I could sustain for the rest of my life and that is what I did. I am pretty much in maintenance mode now. I personally don't like the concept of a regular cheat day. When I hit my goal weight, I tried not logging for Month. I picked up 2 or 3 lbs. I…

I went through the C25K program and had to repeat week 4 and week 5. I have now done 4 5K's and am training for my first half marathon on April 1st. The key to me has been keeping it slow to get more distance. I bought good shoes which has helped dramatically. I probably won't do another one because I have more fun with…

Thank you! my weight loss calorie intake was 1600 per day. I actually still try to stay as close to that as possible, but will occasionally slip up and take in 2000 or maybe even 2200, but see no adverse affects. It's all about consistency.
-
I was told by my doctor that if you take in less calories than you burn, you will lose weight. Plain and simple.
-
It's a marathon, not a sprint. Be patient, but be consistent.

Personally, I agree completely with you. You HAVE to change your mindset or it will never work. It has taken me two years to do it, but I have lost 140 pounds. it's like Niikyy said, you have to have consistency, dedication and motivation. Thank you for posting this!

I came to the realization that I will NEVER be able to eat like I used to and I am ok with that. My cardiologist told me that I had to find a way to eat and exercise that I can sustain for the rest of my life. I had to make the choice to change the way I live or resign myself to die much sooner than I wanted to. I am…

I hate vegetables too! I do eat corn, blackeyed peas and butter beans, but that is about the extent of it. I will occasionally eat something that is not the best for me, but I stay within my calorie count. I had some grilled chicken and rice for dinner last night from a Mexican restaurant last night and had two Corona…

I was at a drive thru ordering some roasted chicken bites, and asked the person at the drive-thru window how much the order was behind me. She told me and then I told her I wanted to pay for that order too. Just paying it forward, because somebody did that for me once.

I have daughters that went to TNU in Nashville. Love that city!

Diane, you can do this!!! I am 56 years old, and the older I get the harder it gets! It's like my cardiologist told me, I had to find a way to eat that I can sustain for the rest of my life. I have lost 71 lbs in 10 months. I understand completely that what works for one person might not work for everybody, but the Dr told…

The only advice I can give is what I got from my cardiologist, and that is to find a way to eat and live that is sustainable long term. Of course, I am sure am considerably older than you, so the motivation and other health factors come into play. I know this expression gets overused, but it is a lifestyle change, not just…

I started this change about 5 months ago. I have dropped about 48 lbs. What I really want to do is make sure I am making a permanent change that is sustainable and healthy. Thanks for the help!

Ok, that makes sense. If I want to average 2 lbs per week, is it unhealthy to take in less than 2000, or do I need to try to get up to that 2000 everyday?
-
Also, what are the ramifications of not eating back those burned calories?
-
How did you know?? LOL
-
I had the same "cocktail". It was brutal! Your description was hilarious!

Just for laughs! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU9xz2FpQc0 George Brett was hilarious!

Keep plenty of reading material in the bathroom!!! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt!

Auddii, you are exactly right. Until I started honestly logging everything I eat in MFP, I had no clue how many calories I was taking in on a daily basis. It really has been an eye opener.

I am 55 years old, and started at 337.7 lbs. My cardiologist suggested 2000 calories or less per day. Then I went to my primary care doctor who did a metabolism study. Turns out she wants me to only take in 1800. This does not account for exercise either. I guess my point is that I wouldn't trust what MFP calculates or…

I went to the doctor and ended up in the hospital for about four days. The dr came into my room on a Saturday morning and told me that the results of my nuclear stress test came back abnormal and that I might not be getting proper blood flow to the lower part of my heart. Thirty minutes after that, my daughter brought my…

I have lost a total of 47 lbs, and have about 110 more to go. There are two factors that really have made the difference for me this time. First of all, I had to examine what my real motivation was. Last August, I spent a few days in the hospital and ended up having a heart catherization done. As it turns out, I had no…

I agree with the lifestyle change statement. When I spent 4 days in the hospital thinking that I might have heart issues (which I don't, thank God), I got out and got some very sage advice from my cardiologist. He said to take in less than 2000 calories per day and excercise at least 4 to 5 days per week. He also made the…

I have had two or three different personal trainers and even a cardiologist tell me the best thing to do is to eat 4 or 5 small meals a day. They tell me that doing this will help increase metabolism. Is fasting something that is sustainable? The changes you make need to be permanent lifestyle changes, and not something…

I stepped on my scale on August 28 at 337.7. I stepped on the scale this morning at 291.6. My motivation started out as a health scare. My doctor told me to take in less than 2000 calories per day and get at least 30 minutes of excercise per day. That has worked for me.
-
I started my journey at the end of August brought on by some potential major health issues and have managed to make positive changes. I have lost about 45 lbs since then. I have no doubt you can do this!
-
I will also agree with what BottleOfPills posted. It's not all about just calories. I was told that just because you get 2000 calories per day, doesn't mean that you can go all day long without eating and then have a big mac, fries and a shake for dinner and call it a day. The types of calories you take in are crucial.…

The only thing I can tell you is log every morsel that crosses your lips in this app. My cardiologist put me on less than 2000 calories per day, and the only way I have been able to stick with that is to log everything I eat. If you do that, and get some regular excercise, it WILL happen! I have lost 45 lbs since the end…
