I would suggest you work on both... your weekend long slow run builds up endurance while your mid week tempo run develops speed. Throw in some intervals and a recovery run (or two) and there you have it!

I haven't done a very good job of posting here but I'm rounding out July at 208kms (125.5miles)

I haven't been able to run the last few days due a banged up toe (dropped a bed frame on it). I'm trying to be smart and am taking the time to allow it to heal but I feel like I just might lose my mind. I shall live vicariously through you all for the next day or two :)

July 1 - rest July 2 - 5 July 3 - 10.5 July 4 - rest July 5 - 14.3 July 6 - 5.2 July 7 - 7.6 July 8 - 8.8 July 9 - 10 Total - 61.3 Km Today's workout was a long (10k) tempo run. It was supposed to be "a bit" faster than goal marathon pace. I ended up running "quite a bit" faster faster than goal marathon pace. I feel good…

It would be fast if it was minutes per mile but my pace is in minutes per kilometer... it converts to 10 min per mile (ish).

I just realized that my privacy setting didn't allow everyone to view my profile. I have fixed it!

It was super fun! I don't mind having my wet hair…

July 1 - rest July 2 - 5 July 3 - 10.5 July 4 - rest July 5 - 14.3 July 6 - 5.2 July 7 - 7.6 Total - 42.6 Today's session was "speed work" which I absolutely sucked at. My average pace ended up being 6:05 due to me going out too fast then having to shuffle back LOL. Next week will be better!!!

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/profile/Anne! Here is me on Garmin Connect for those of you that use that site :) Feel free to add me!

Oh yeah... I know that feeling all too well... but good for you for sucking it up!

Distance = time x intensity... so I train by both. For example, if I plan to run 8k tempo... I'll insert 20-30 min of threshold work. At the end of the week I add up my mileage which is my main measure.

LOL I have no idea! But since it works... I wouldn't mess with it >.<

I also need to disagree with this. There is nothing wrong with skipping breakfast. I have 'brunch' all the time and on those days I'm usually under my calorie goal. Do what works for you. There is no 'one size fits all' solution for nutrition only rules of thumb :)

I'm aiming for 220 kms (132 miles) in July. Eek! July 1 - rest (0) July 2 - 5 (5) July 3 - 10.5 (15.5)

I was thinking that since the challenge is based on percentages it will be a good way to kick the last 10 (or so) pounds :) For me 9 lbs is 6.5% which would be a good contribution for my team.
-
I just joined with a starting weight of 137 and aiming to get down to 128.

Here is a link to the challenge I was talking about. We could make some changes to the challenge to make it specific to the "Last 10 Pounds"... http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10120155/april-june-get-ready-for-summer-2015-challenge-guidelines#Item_47 Would there be any interest in that? If so I'm happy to…

Maybe we can organize our efforts and motivation into a kind of 10 pound boot camp? Like the Biggest Loser Challenge group they have here. I dropped 10 pounds (give or take) in that challenge and had a lot of fun. I felt kind of bad because I had a lot less weight to get off. But we are all in a similar situation so the…

Yup I'm in the same situation! My stats: height - 5'4 weight - 134 (131-134 fluctuations) goal - 127 (ish) not sure more focused on running, body fat and how my clothes fit I think my main problem is with snacking. My meals are healthy but then I eat donuts or chips or ice cream and ruin all of my progress. I feel like I…

Very well done!!! It's so hard to do that.

I know the feeling! I had scheduled a run before work today but then I just didn't have the motivation to go. I regret being a "loaf" (lol) because now it looks like rain for the rest of the day...

I'm aiming for 75 miles (120 km) this month. I'm focusing on speed and weight loss before starting marathon training on June 29th. June 1 - 3.7 miles (6 km)

Yup... I did IM 70.3 in Orlando in 2011 and IMTX 140.6 in 2012... I took a bit of a 'break' the last couple of years but I have been contemplating another in 2016. Nice to meet you!
-
I'm in the same situation as you... except my race is this weekend. I stayed in a calorie deficit until this week. I felt it was better to get the weight off. I'm not planning to 'race' as much as complete the event, get the race t-shirt, and burn an additional 1300 calories :) I have done a couple of 'tempo' runs but…
