My daughter started taking probiotics for her IBS and it helped tremendously. When she is home from school and eating with me, she notices an improvement as well.

This cracks me up. I've never seen food served that way before lol (Like, that IS served on a bone?)

I have been Paleo for a year and five months. It works great for me - I feel great. I don't have to take antidepressants anymore, my allergies are less than what they used to be, asthma is almost nonexistent now, and I feel like everything is working like it is supposed to. I decide to go a little off-paleo for a day or…

YES lol - I like the Time Traveler reference. I traveled into the future a week ago Friday and ate an entire pepperoni pizza

MDA - I'm glad you posted this - I just took a "Best of Paleo" survey and AltShift was nominated in several categories. I need to go check it out. I do best on low-carb, not just for weight loss, but for mental reasons/seizure disorder kind of stuff. I used to keep it in the 40-60 gram range, but have hovered in the 80-100…

lost 12 lbs the first month and an AVERAGE of 4-5 pounds per month after that - which is to say it wasn't exact week by week. Some weeks I wouldn't lose anything, some I'd lose more than I expected, but averaging back from day one it would usually be around 4-5 lbs per month.

Oprah telling me to join Weight Watchers with her because bread.

This is the way I have adopted as well. I make my breakfast (its the same thing every day for now, because I love it) and while I am eating it I plan out my day's food based on what I have on hand.

smoked salmon wrapped in a leaf (spinach, lettuce, kale, etc.)

I'm adding this to my "to cook" list this week. YUM!!

cut in half and added to a few slices of chopped up frying bacon, sauteed until soft and a little burnt.

Yep I can't keep them in the house either. Zero self control when it comes to almond and/or cashew butter. There is no "making it fit" for me, because if I did that my food diary for the day's calories would just be "insert nut butter of the day here" and that's it. It's comforting to know I'm not the only one with this…

Could it be a medication side-effect? If that's the case you kind of need to make yourself eat the extra few calories even though you aren't hungry.

Walking up four floors of stairs without having to stop in the middle to catch my breath!

When I first read the subject line I thought "Well, it depends on how fast the animal [that was chasing you] was." LOL I have been thinking that it is time to start running...up until now I have only been a walker (unless something was chasing me - ha)

Diet pills can be dangerous to your health and have long-term side effects. Proper food intake, sleep, and exercise will accomplish the same goal, for longer, and with great side effects!

Too much fruit or too much in general? If I don't watch it, I keep going back to the fridge for more grapes and/or almonds and bam! I've eaten too much in general. Like, hundreds of calories too much haha

I had an easier time losing weight at 46 than ever in my 30's. But I don't know how much of that has to do with my age or just having learned more about nutrition and fitness by now. I have heard that it is harder to lose weight the older you get, but hopefully I won't have to lose weight again to find out. I have also…

Where do you get just the leaves? Or do you mean peeling the sprouts? Hmm...now I want to try that!
-
I have gotten all of the non-brussels-sprouts-eaters in my family to eat them by making them this way: 4 slices of bacon (I use "uncured") cut up into small chunks. 1 lb of Brussels sprouts. Slice off the bottom of the sprouts and slice the sprout in half. Fry the bacon, until it is halfway done, dump in the sprouts, stir,…

Are there not directions on the label?

Every day, whether I go over or not. I generally run a bit under calorie goal knowing that I will have a day or two where I go over, whether by accident or on purpose.

I save chicken bones and make a big batch of bone broth/stock. Then I portion it out into smaller batches to freeze and use those to make different soups. (I didn't read the article, just answering the subject question)

Kind of a vague question. Almond milk has about 40 calories per serving. Coconut milk can have anywhere from 50-120 calories per serving, depending on what kind you use and for what purpose. Steaming would just add some water, right? Regardless, you can find out yourself in the MFP food database.

When my friend told me before our vacation "I know that you have been working very hard to lose weight, so during vacation I'm going to help you to stay on track" WTF - I just looked at her and said "I appreciate your concern, but I'm a grown-up and I'm not asking permission to eat or drink whatever I want on vacation"

To yolk! Mmm. Most of the vitamins and minerals are in the yolk.

By "flab" do you mean fat, or just loose skin? You may not be trying to lose weight, but are you trying to lose body fat? If you mean loose skin, there may not be anything you can do about that in some places depending on your age. If you mean fat, there are a lot of good suggestions in this thread.

Mine is open to friends because we often use each other's diaries to get ideas for meals and ideas. I did close it for a few weeks over the holidays because I hit maintenance at the same time, and that was a tricky thing - learning to eat at maintenance during the holidays. It got harder to track what I was eating for a…

There will usually be a week or two that you just feel kind of crappy soon after you switch to eating lower-carb. It is common to feel achy, with maybe a headache and possible mood fluctuations. It doesn't last very long, though. If you decide you want to continue the low-carb experiment, maybe just wait out that part and…
